There wasn't really anything to go back to, and even if there was, we were never able to figure out how to leave a plane before--Well, let me back the hell up a sec. I'll give you the fantasy cliff notes:
My entire planar system was eaten by, well, another plane. Now, before the actual eat-ening me, my brother, and some other nerds were preparing to explore space. You know, for kicks or whatever. Luckily, with our ship, we were somehow able to escape into a different planar system entirely.
Then that one got eaten, too. And then the one after that, and after that, and--yeah, you get the picture. It was basically the planar tour from hell.
