II. (open) i'm gonna fight with myself til i'm bleeding

A. have you ever had a hot dog cooked by a guy named hotdog? this is going on instastories.

[ the time has come for frank to probably show all you losers what a hot dog is. for posterity or some such. he's been curing deer meat from a recent hunting trip with aloy and after their housemate reigen had soundproofed house six's kitchen, well. it seemed as good a time as any to put his plan in motion. not to mention he's in a good mood for once after encountering his best friend among the new arrivals.

early in the evening, frank will be piping his mixture into homemade casings with the doors to the back deck wide open for anyone to come pester him. and then later on of course he will be cooking them up with mustard he made and onions he found. he will also chop up pickles from the natives for anyone who gets down like that. none of y'all better ever ask him what a hot dog is ever again!!!

if you come in while he's cooking expect to be put to work, and did i mention he'll be downing rosé the whole time? e n j o y.

note: the kitchen is only soundproof when all the doors are closed. he will tell everyone on arrival this, so while he's cooking the doors will be shut but all other times feel free to mingle!! ]

B. the rules of fight club are bring snacks and make sure frank castle stays in bruises. tia for your contribution.

[ after posting up this little gem, frank has been steadily gathering members for his and mike's "club." his garage is a makeshift boxing arena and open for all any time they want to blow off steam or learn some new skills from punching bag himself. or from whoever else is lingering around. feel free to match yourselves and have a fight without him too, he'll ref!

the only rules of fight club are: bring snacks, agree with your partner on tactics: weapons/no weapons, fists only/every man for himself etc etc. AND when one person taps out or doesn't get up the match is over. the garage is approximately 80% soundproof. every fighter must wear wraps on their hands to muffle sound and agree not to shout or make loud noises, even in pain. soft-volume trash talking is allowed and perhaps even encouraged... ]

i'd just be really bad at it. i'm not very big or strong. i can't do a lot. not like you can.

[Will pauses enough to wipe mustard off his mouth with his sleeve (gross) and sidle over carefully. He's still a little wary, looking up and sideways at Frank. Just in case.

But hot dog wizardry is more interesting, always, so he'll turn his attention there eventually.]

[Punching a kid your own age because he snapped your bra strap is one thing. The idea of punching an actual adult - even with permission - is something else entirely. But she is suddenly very clear on why his face is all bruised. She has a feeling she's not the only complete stranger that he's invited to punch him.

Max climbs into the ring, too, watching him for a moment as he bounces. She curls her hands into fists, careful to keep her thumbs out of the way, which is about the only thing she knows about fighting mechanics. She moves quickly, throwing her fist toward his stomach.]

[The strange mannerisms are not unsettling at all to the young woman. If anything the odd way about him is familiar. It reminds her of Jaqen H'ghar. But... did he just eat the small piece of wood? That earns him a curious look. He is an odd one.

Apparently it's okay to speak in here though, so Arya puts away her device.] A girl is called Arya Stark. [Her own silent joke, speaking in such a way. Like Jaqen had. Like a Faceless Man.]

If you haven't even tried much, how do you know you'd be bad? Size isn't everything. I bet you could be quick. Quick wins just as well as strong. [You just couldn't get caught, is the thing.] If you ever decide you do want to learn a few things, I'll be there in a flash. K?

i'm pretty fast. and good at hiding. i don't usually get caught by anything that wants to hurt me.

[It's probably mildly alarming that he's done that often enough to know for sure. But he seems a little happier, sitting a bit straighter. Good job with the ego-boost, Faith.]

Maybe. (Eddie, for some reason, felt shy about the idea of sparring with a man like Frank. It was like how he'd been embarrassed being caught by Shiro trying to practice sparring. Frank would probably see him flail about for three seconds, realize what a sissy he was, and then ditch that effort real quick.

Or that's what Eddie's convinced of anyway. Maybe Frank seemed kind enough, but Eddie still didn't know him nearly enough to be a little more comfortable with certain things.

He glances up though at the point of the offer being open, and he considers it.)

Maybe when I'm a little more settled? (And maybe when he knew Frank better, more importantly, but he knows that it's rude to vocalize your suspicion of adults. They never liked that. Adults wanted automatic trust and respect all the time, and Eddie could pretend to give it so he wouldn't get in trouble.)

[She looks quite pleased at his reaction. Damn. Maybe she's not so bad at this talking to kids thing! Although, that he's had to run from thing trying to hurt him is a concern...

Faith shoves that down. It's probably too early in meeting this kid to hound him for details, right? Right.] There you go! You're already one step ahead, then.

Frank told you about me? He told me about you. You and your family are his happy place.

[ He's not sure why but he really likes it when adults shake his hand. Maybe because it makes him feel like an adult too.

He shakes David's hand with a warm smile. Any friend of Frank's was a friend of his. He trusted Frank and anyone he considered a friend. ]

Micro like a microwave? [ Micro sounds cooler than David, but if he prefers David, Mike will call him that. ]

(At least Eddie appreciates the honesty. It's enough to even make him smile a tiny bit.)

It's okay, you know. I'm twelve. I can handle talking about alcohol.

(And stealing it and taking a few experimental sips, but Eddie knows better than to say something like that to an adult. They got real uptight about stuff like that.

Eddie is proud though when the guy cracks a grin. He always did like it when he could make an adult laugh or grin.)

I met him earlier. He seems okay.

(A compliment coming from Eddie, honestly.)

Where did he get it from?

(Seemed fair to ask. He watches the man get him some water, not minding the rinse out, and takes it with a small nod of appreciation.)

Thanks. I'm Eddie by the way.

[There a highly critical look, a pause...]

[And a nod. His eyebrows are a bit less furrowed, even though that's nowhere close to a smile. It's a lack of disapproval.]

if i have to learn to fight later, though, i'll definitely let you know. if my friends need it, i guess i'll learn.

[ frank nods, directing will to hold the casing while he pipes the mixture in slowly. it's soothing, he thinks, making something from scratch this way. at least, he'd always found cooking to be that way. after a little while he'll offer to switch so that will can man the piping station instead. ]

[ someone told her to tuck her thumbs, which is good. he watches her carefully as she shoots for his middle. at the last minute he catches the hit in his palm, trying to discern the power behind it more than anything. she'll get a chance to actually hit him, but first: the basics. once he has her hand he mimes a punch to the side of her ribcage, pulling it before it gets there but leveling her with a look all the same. ]

You left yourself wide open. [ he says softly, careful to make sure sound doesn't carry even in this room. he shows her how to stand with her arms closer together, her elbows protecting her midsection. then mimes another strike so she can watch how he always brings his arm back to center, protecting himself even in the offense. ] Now you try.

[Kamala blinks in surprise. Usually comments mean negative stuff to teenagers. What could be bad about that look? Aside from losing your eye being a sad thing.]

Not really? You just look like a really cool guy with that hairstyle and black eyepatch. Plus the way you carry yourself totally helps!

[Will is a very good helper, standing very still while holding the casing, with a half-fascinated, half-disgusted look on his face at the ooze of the meat mixture. It's so gross. It's so cool.

He's a little clumsier with the piping, getting the mixture onto his fingers, face scrunched in the most intense concentration. But he eventually does it properly, immediately looking up at Frank for validation.]

[She's not even a little surprised when he blocks the hit, exhaling slowly. She flinches involuntarily - just barely - when he mimes punching her ribs, nodding when he tells her she left herself wide open. She lets him guide her into better posture, doing her best to copy what she'd just watched him do, throwing a punch and quickly drawing back to protect herself.]

Okay, but I'm Kevin Bacon in this scenario. [ he grins right back, happy to be back here. it's like full circle, and comforting in a way nothing else can be. he starts off slow, but with power, jabbing for her right side and bouncing away like mayweather. ]

Fine by me. I don't got anywhere to be anytime soon. [She'll be stuck here same as him. Now. Or later. Faith gives him a wink, then, as she moves to stand up.] Now. You should watch me go kick the ass of that doofus right over there. [She points across the room right at Frank Castle, aka, PB, Punching Bag, Hot Dog.] Make sure to get a good drawing of that, yeah?

[ all of eddie's assumptions are wrong here. frank welcomes any and all suspicion. that means this kid is smart. it also probably means he's been burned before, which frank doesn't like thinking about, but kids who trusted adults so readily were even more worrisome. especially a guy who looks like frank. of course, he says none of this either, just shrugging at eddie's pontification. he won't press either way, acting like it doesn't matter to him. and it doesn't, not really. different kids are into different things, even if it's easier for him to relate to brash, loud kids because it's the kind of kid he was? that doesn't matter. he appreciates smart kids too, maybe even moreso. they're probably a whole hell of a lot more useful than frank's fists in a place like this. ]

What house are you in? [ he has a hunch that he already knows. that he was even the one who put eddie's bed in his room with his brother bill. but he asks, because it's nice to ask. and it's good to know where all the kids are, so he can do his best to keep them out of harm's way. ]

(Again, Eddie hesitates. But this time not for quite as long. In this kind of setting, he realizes that people had to depend on each other. That and a guy like Frank would figure it out soon enough anyway. Just like he had to get food from Frank just now. That reminds him to ask where the hot dogs came from.)

House eleven. A couple of my friends are there too- from home. (Eddie doesn't elaborate right away, instead focused on the subject of food.)

Where did you get hot dogs? And like, food and stuff in general? Is there soap and stuff here? (Also important.)

[oorah]

[ he nods, so that was eddie's room. and eddie's brother. though he just says friends. he isn't sure if it's another layer of self-protection and so frank leaves it alone. ]

It's good you have each other. I just got a friend from home too. [ a beat, the slightest and briefest wan-seeming smile. ] More like a brother, actually.

[ it's frank's turn to hesitate, not that he's ever thought it best to shelter children from the truth. he had always told his kids exactly how it was. he thinks they were all the better for it, too. ]

My housemate and I killed a deer. That's about all there is for meat, and rabbits. There's vegetables in the greenhouse. [ a beat ] I can get you soap. [ fight club fight club fight club ]

Oh, yeah? Who does that make me? John Lithgow? [She scoffs a bit, letting the hit land, but moving back with the force of it, so that the actual impact isn't much at all.

She grins, hopping back and forth like an idiot, and darting around her head like she's some cocky prizefighter in turn. She's over here! No, she's over there-! What's she gonna do and- she fakes right with a jab, but follows up with a hook left headed right under his lifted arms.

She's taking it lighter like he's asked. Faith can control herself and make this a less bloody affair than usual. No splash zones in the first row.]

[ His text response might have been a bit underwhelming, but the way he sat up a bit straighter, the cast of his shoulders more relaxed, hinted that he'd actually found this a really nice (if unexpected) compliment. ]

I got a friend back home, Saki-chan -- used to talk about how she wished it was easier to give her medium cut more body. Looks like you got that down, though.

[ he has to smile at will's wonder surrounding the entire event, letting out a silent 'laugh' that's really just a breath and a jump of his shoulders. frank doesn't interfere when the boy messes up, letting him get around to figuring things out on his own. then he's making a silly face and holding up an OK sign. good job, buddy. he doesn't need his device for moments like these. ]
