[Rey doesn't waste time. She's not motherly, not by any stretch of the imagination. But she does know how to protect others, and that's what she wants to do with this child. He's innocent, and shouldn't be involved in this. The fact that he is has Rey focused on him rather than her own panic and worry about the red dust.
Her finger goes to her mouth, signaling for him to stay quiet. She won't have a sound eater taking a child on her watch. Especially not one that's clearly been crying and is afraid. She isn't sure she could handle that happening.
Her arm goes around him and she guides him back to town quickly, and toward her house. There are barrels of water she collected in the last rainstorm, plenty for them to wash off in. Until they get there, she focuses on trying to wipe of his face using her clothes. The red is so thick and smeared that it feels impossible.
When they get to her house, she doesn't lead him past the porch. One of the barrels is there, and although she hates to waste it entirely, she decides that the boy needs all the water. Using the Force, she very gently and carefully picks him up. And then she moves him inside the barrel, releasing her hold on him so she can start cupping water in her hands to splash it on and scrub his face.]
