JOGGING.
Akechi really needs a proper set of atheletic wear... Granted, it's not really his biggest concern right now as he jogs along the sand paths. It's not as engaging as rock climbing or as refreshing as cycling, but he gets far too restless just sitting around during his spare time. And falling out of shape would be... what... unseemly? Disgraceful? Either way, exercise seems to be one of the few things that keeps him from wallowing in despair, and with an objective, it keeps his mind busy.

Indeed, as he walks around the outer-most routes, if one happens to be around, they may notice him actively scanning the area... and possibly getting frustrated as a result. Miserably, his hand comes up to touch at his hair, which shines a bit from grease. Perhaps the shower would be a luxury, but at least some proper toiletries would be nice? ... his hair is suffering... And it bothers him much more than he'd really like to admit...


KNITTING.
This is so much more difficult than any layperson would take for granted. In fact, Akechi had gotten so frustrated and discouraged at points that he'd sometimes given up. And yet, even as lethargic as he still is... there's something about this challenge that grates against him.

He won't let himself be beaten.

So maybe you're a knitter too, or maybe you've just happened to stumble upon the place where they're keeping their resources for this, in which case... you may see Akechi working very, very hard at getting better at knitting.

It's a point of pride, okay?

Perhaps he's so into it he doesn't even notice your presence, in which case, you probably shouldn't try sneaking up behind him... but, well, the option is available. Or maybe he's just finished a course and is examining his work. But for the love of god, do not rip out his course, accidental or otherwise... you have been Warned.

There are a couple different types of buildings that have many showers. One is known as a bathhouse and another is known as a gym. Some may have those written in their names on the letters above the store, but sometimes you have to know what to look for through the windows.

[And from what he'd gathered of Carpet, he wouldn't be familiar with the kinds of furniture in either one.]

From what little I could see, I haven't seen anything that could look like either one, though.

Bathhouses and gymnasiums? I haven't seen anything that looked like those either. Wouldn't they be more central?

[He actually seems to know of the concept of both, at least; he's seen gymnasiums before, and hammams have always been extremely popular. Still, why would they be br all the way at the outskirts of town like this? Both kinds of buildings are extremely social communal spaces, right?]

[ Poe waits in silence not really paying attention to Akechi at first. When he finally does he wonders if something is wrong. Before even getting a chance to ask he sees the wide eyed expression.

A small smile appears at it since it can be a shock to other people not used to used hearing his full explanation. ]

Not all systems are colonized. A big chunk of the galaxy is though. There's plenty of humans but there's a lot of species too.

[ Remember to breathe, Akechi. It's okay. ]

[Oh, hm... perhaps he got the wrong impression. He'd have to ask Carpet some more about his world sometime.]

They might be. That will require quite a bit more sand. Or... you don't need sand to travel silently.

That's right!

[Carpet bounces in midair, clearly excited to realize how easily the problem can be circumvented. He flutters to the ground at Akechi's feet, laid out and looking for all the world like a perfectly normal rug. Need a ride, buddy?]

What's it like? Are there massive spaceship battles? What kinds of other species are there?

[If he was speaking, it's very likely he would have forgotten to breathe.

Space. Technology! Any previous subconscious nervousness he might have had has been completely forgotten.]

[Akechi blinks in confusion.

After a moment:]

What are you doing?

[One end raises itself partly off the ground to sign.]

If you ride on me, you won't need more sand either.

Sometimes the inevitable happens and there are spaceship battles. Before I came here the organization I'm in was on the run. Our fleet was slowly losing out on hope. A war is coming. All kinds. Big, small, medium, furry, not furry. All sorts of different skin tones.

Space can be cold but once you get used to it, it's not so bad. There's many different systems with all sorts of planets with different climates.

[ At least the other seems more at ease with this topic. Poe didn't mind talking about the galaxy he came from. It was just a little hard to explain at times. ]

[His eyes widen.]

Really? You'll let me ride you?

[carpet just said that akechi]

That's incredible. On my planet, humans have not gone further than our moon, and we're not aware of the existence of any extra terrestrials.

To be able to explore an entire system, and discover so many new beings...

[That might be a small smile creeping onto his face from the excitement of thinking about it. When he notices it, he smooths it out into something a little more practiced.]

Akechi, by the way.

Sure! It's fun, you'll see!

[ Goddamn right! You better run you fucken extra!

He'd slam the door on your departing ass but he's not going on out on his own. He'll make sure he takes you with him.

And back he goes to getting ready for bed at 9 pm. He'll be fast asleep by 10 just like a grandpa. ]

That seems to be everyone's answer I've met so far. Only traveled a bit into space but not completely. Maybe one day you'll be able to hear about space in your world.

Most systems have colonization. So it's mostly trying to learn their standards of operations.

Poe. Poe Dameron. It's nice to meet you Akechi.

[He stares for a moment, then slowly nods, looking down. Ah, he should— take off his shoes, probably? So he kneels down and does that, putting his socked feet on Carpet and doing his best to be mindful of any sand. He then brushes off the soles of his shoes, and settles himself on Carpet.

... Carpet's field of vision is still a mystery to him, so he reaches down and gently taps him twice instead, to indicate his readiness. He's actually a little... excited?]

[Carpet's field of vision is 'yes'. Yes, he can see that, whatever you're doing. Yes, he has a perfectly clear view of your butt if you're sitting on him. Yes, any normal human except a Hyuuga would go crosseyed trying to mentally process a complete 360 degree field of vision. He doesn't really need the signal, but he waits for it anyway, mostly because it's polite to give a passenger all the time they need to settle in.

Once he gets the all clear, though, he doesn't hesitate. He shoots into the sky like an arrow, a swift and steep ascent that has the wind roaring around them, brisk and cold. (Even so, there's probably not as much force exerted on him as Akechi might expect--any sorcerer designing a completely open vehicle that can travel at such speeds is bound to have woven in enchantments to ensure their own safety as a passenger.) The ground falls away beneath them, buildings steadily growing smaller; for the moment, Carpet is mostly interested in gaining altitude, not going anywhere in particular.

After all, it's a spectacular view, isn't it? Even if it didn't help him decide where to go beyond the sand paths, Akechi ought to be able to see his new home in full.]

[Something flickers across his face at those first few words— it almost seems like a wince, though he tries to tone that down, at least, to a twitch of his face.

Would he even want to go back to that world, if he had the option to? The world that had spat in his face and kicked him in the dirt and left him at the mercy of cruel adults?

...he opts to forego answering that particular part entirely.]

Shall we walk as we talk?

[No point in continuing to stand around, as he sees it... he'll keep an eye out for those buildings, of course. But it's a fun subject to be able to talk about in the meanwhile.]

You said you're in a fleet. What's your position?

[gotyourselfapilot]

[ Poe can read people's faces, it's something he did because of his position back at home. Any leader would need to be able to pick on small tiny details. But he didn't know anything of Akechi's past. He knew better than trying to offer comfort. The last time he tried they were failed attempts.

But if Akechi appeared to need something along those lines, even words of encouragement. Poe could offer that. ]

Yeah, we walk and talk.

[ He starts to walk into a direction. It didn't really matter which way currently. If Akechi wanted to go in a different one, he could take point. ]

I was a Commander, but currently a Captain. [ If Akechi knew about ranking then he would know that it was demotion. ]

[The air rushes out of his lungs as they suddenly take off, and his hands instinctively grapple for Carpet's front, even though he's not in any actual danger of falling off. He stares for a moment, wide-eyed, still breathless as he looks over the side and watches the buildings steadily shrink underneath them.

He lets out a soft, breathy sound, a smile creeping its way onto his face. This is... absolutely incredible. He's flying. He's flying on an enchanted carpet.

... he suddenly feels like a child all over again in the most delightful way.

Did he come up here for something? At the moment, he's just basking in this view.]

[The city is like a set of toy blocks beneath them, as though Akechi could simply reach out and hold a house in his hands. Once they reach a good height, Carpet takes the time to hover where they are for a minute or two, spinning in a slow circle so Akechi can enjoy the panorama in every direction. At this height, after all, what is there to block their view? They can see miles in every direction.

Once they do start moving again, it's at a much more sedate pace, gliding deeper into the heart of the city, beyond where the locals have dared to go.]

[Akechi is a Big Heckin Nerd if Poe hasn't figured that out yet, so of course he knows. Though he finds it curious that he would so readily offer up that information. He could have easily just said he was a Captain and spared himself the shame. Well, granted, he's only familiar with science fiction, but if it aligns with the same system his world uses...

In either case, he isn't going in any particular direction, so the one that Poe goes in is fine. Meanwhile, he's keeping a look out for those buildings. And perhaps anything unusual.]

Why's that?

[Poe brought it up, so as far as he's concerned, asking is fair game.]

[ Poe wasn't afraid of it anymore. And he knew that it was done within reason of his actions now. So much happened after that, he could easily argue that if it hadn't been done their entire fleet could have been destroyed if anyone truly wanted to listen to him. But in the end people still died and they lost a bunch. He needed to make better decisions after that but he still didn't when he thought he had saw hope and a whole organization that Leia built seemed to be getting undone. Again all he did was act on impulse, anger and mixed with a bit of what he believed in.

For a moment he looks around at the buildings as he types. ]

I ignored a direct commend. I believed taking down a ship that were known as fleet killers was more important. Our whole bombing fleet went down with that ship. I believed in once you started an attack you follow it through not really taking in what it truly meant in the end. I should have paid more attention to what was told to me. Dead heroes, no leaders. My general, she had been right in her decision of demoting me.

[ If she had meant to create doubt, she truly did. But they were tracked in an impossible way. The First Order had managed to do and would continue to their attacks basically leaving them on the run and helpless to do anything. ]

[He's absolutely entranced, soaking up every bit of this moment. The scenery is beautiful, but it's also... hauntingly devoid of life. Truly an apocalyptic scenario; the images of those videos flash in his mind...

He shakes his head, and as Carpet moves forward, he turns his attention to looking for any buildings of particular note and quietly notes their locations in his head. It's a bit too dangerous to actually try getting any supplies, though. He supposes he could, if he wanted to push his luck, but... not with Carpet around.

Once he's had his fill of searching, he runs a hand along Carpet's rim and thumbs back. Hopefully he can see that...?]

You went up against a powerful enemy and suffered terrible losses for it. That is indeed quite a grave error of judgment.

[...not necessarily that he ignored a direct command, however. Akechi hardly believes authority should be listened to for the sake of authority. It's one of the biggest problems the Phantom Thieves were dealing with, after all. People listening to those in power, simply because they had that power. Simply because they were more invested in their own well-being than of others who suffered at the hands of the powerful.]

How do you intend to atone?

The First Order is a big organization that is way more advanced than the Resistance would ever hope to achieve. We barely have the resources to keep up with a war. There's more to this story. I made a lot of bad decisions and choices. I made the choice of taking that action because it was what I believed was the right thing to do. I could argue it's the best one after the fact once we realized they could track us. If that Dreadnought was still around our fleet wouldn't have made it. We still lost good pilots and all of our ships though. After I lost my own ship I still couldn't make the right choices.

[ Poe had always gone against orders that he didn't feel were right. He couldn't just sit on his hands and do nothing. It's the whole reason why he defected from the New Republic Navy to join the Resistance. The Resistance was trying to make a difference, tried to warn the Galaxy of the First Order. Poe desperately held on to hope. There's a press of his lips as he ponders Akechi's question. Atonement. ]

I think getting stunned by a blaster is more than enough. There's a story behind that too. The only thing I can do is try to be a better leader. I'll continue to help people where they need it.
