INTRO LOG #3

INTRO LOG #3

Put a Sock in It
Content Warnings: Disorientation, memory loss, confusion
Themes: Arrival, survival, exploration, horror

You wake, standing. A thick, muddy red dust coats your skin and clothes - it sticks to your tongue and blocks your vision. Inhale and it chokes you, exhale and your breath puffs out in front of your face in a transparent maroon cloud. It tastes of copper, tangy and harsh. Movement is difficult, every limb tingles and aches. Look to your left, your right. Evenly spaced in each direction stands another person indistinguishable in every way from the next. You're disoriented and lethargic, unable to grasp onto a single thought. A pinprick of light blooms ahead and grows steadily larger; a door has opened.

Hands grip your wrists, push at the small of your back and guide you out of the darkness into a room with four walls and a thin, sagging ceiling. The plaster is peeling, the air is musty, and the floor is slick. White plastic piping juts up from the center and curves into multiple spouts, clean water flowing in uneven streams. Those hands pull your clothes off and clear the dust from your body, redress you in handsewn jumpsuits. By the time they’re through, you will have begun to come back to yourself.

A finger is pressed to your lips. Kind eyes meet your own and a single word is whispered - hush.

Led out of the room in a line, you’re taken down a short hallway and into another, much larger room. There’s a woman waiting for you there, Constance, with a child hugging her leg - a cloth bag in her hands. She reaches in and pulls out a device, passes one to each of you. Once finished, she begins to move both hands in graceful gestures, a language. One of the people who helped you lifts their device and the screen lights up, tracks the woman’s hands. Letters appear on the screen and you understand the device’s purpose. She tells you what she knows and it’s not much.

This world is haunted. Noise attracts them, so it is not allowed. Communication is through body language, soundless writing, and the device. She tells you that your feet must be light and your mouth never used. There is a community outside these doors, where you can survive together, but only if you agree to one thing: complete and total silence. You'll have time to talk it over. You may ask one question and receive one answer. There are others like you in the room, those who'd come earlier. They're there to help.

Acceptance allows you to journey outside. The ground is marked in pathways of sand, lining the paths to each building and everywhere in-between. You notice that the locals hold their devices always, aloft and glance to it often. It will not vibrate or make a sound to signal a message. Notices appear. Rules. Guidelines. Feet on the sand and never anywhere else. To open a door you brush your fingers along the hinges - oiled and you may enter. If not, take the brush from the can sitting nearby and coat the metal with the dark liquid.

Now, you're to settle into your new home – with or without the help of those who have come before you.

In Freakish Flight
Content Warnings: Threat to safety, death, weird creatures
Themes: Plot, survival

This is the tale that was told to me by the man with the crystal eye,
As I smoked my pipe in the camp-fire light, and the Glories swept the sky;
As the Northlights gleamed and curved and streamed, and the bottle of "hooch" was dry.

The new arrivals are here, like clockwork it seems. A strange occurrence that the natives haven't missed. They don't have answers but following support and encouragement from some of the older arrivals, they have been looking into it. If they notice anything odd, they post it to the bulletin board and they're working as hard as ever to help. Settling in is easier this time around, smoother, as everyone is more prepared than before. The first few days go well, one of the natives finds a patch of wild berries and makes fresh jam - serves it with breakfast until it runs out. There's a nice breeze that night, not too hot and not too cold. The stars twinkle and the moon is full, a pleasant atmosphere rolls through the community as everyone falls asleep.

Everyone wakes to the soft sounds of birds chirping. There's a light fog, windows misted over, and abruptly, it goes quiet. The only way to see outside is to open the door and those curious brave enough will find, covered in red dust, a handful of individually unique creatures scattered around the fountain at the center of the community. There's about fourteen of them - each one focused on the door of the main residences and two have scurried off towards the others, quiet now but watching. After the first door opens, they move, stopping only when they're right in front of each of the houses and then the sounds start again. Louder.

OOC: Removing the threat, these creatures, is possible in a few ways. They have a weakness for water, which slows them down and shuts them up. They can be killed, the same as any normal animal might. Or they can be captured, something tied around their bills to silence them. Unfortunately, only a few will survive being caught alive ( we randomized out of the twelve houses - 5, 1, 2, 12, and Private Housing (Sora) and the Permanent Apartments ) and can be kept for study. The players in each house can decide what they want to do with them or use the comment below if they want to hand it over. As a side note, the dead ones can be kept too.

Alone or Together
Content Warnings: Poisoning
Themes: Plot

Up until now everything around here has been, well, pleasant. Recently certain things have become unpleasant. Now, it seems to me that the first thing we have to do is to separate out the things that are pleasant from the things that are unpleasant.

The natives have been up front about those that came through the Reset Room before. Some left, some didn't survive, and a few now call themselves natives. The above message lights up everyone's devices ( username - lamar ) but all ways to respond are disabled. A follow up message comes from Constance, explaining that they don't know how the message has been sent due to the fact that Lamar has been dead for over a decade. That night at dinner, the set up in town hall, the natives are abuzz talking about the mysterious message. Food is passed out. Drinks are had.

Before the first person leaves the hall, a plume of red dust sprays out from an old vent near the floor boards and fills the room. Quickly, all color is leached from the world. Every person is now color blind, seeing everything in varying shades of black, white, and grey as they cough and choke, trying to clear the dust from their faces and mouths. Was this Lamar? Was this the person who rigged up the noise machine in Verdel Square? What did the message mean?

OOC: The effects will fade after twenty four hours. All arrivals, new and old, plus all natives will be effected. For each character, one person will still be in color. Players can decide who this is. A friend, lover, enemy, one of the natives.

[ Poe is glad to see Finn for another reason. He's alright and not stuck on the Supremacy. Since that was the last thing he knows about Finn anyway.

That's a really heavy thought to think about. What really went on in his friend's head? ]

I've been here for almost two months. If that happened I would tell you. This is the first time the red dust was used in a way of an attack. It could have been a bomb all of us were there. [ It would have been easy for anyone to kill them with that kind of thought. He wasn't sure what to think about the red dust being used in this matter. What else could it do? ]

I don't know buddy I've been thinking that from time to time. We have to walk on normal sand to get around in order to stay quiet. It's kind of clever. At least it doesn't get as hot as Jakku.

[Definitely not stuck there. Though it'll be fun to make his next canon point at falling off that ledge.

...Sun poisoning. Belatedly. From his trek across Jakku. Because who really knows how fucking far he walked.]
So now they've learned they can weaponize the dust, and we know what it does. [At least in this application. Who knows what would happen if they ate it.]

So long as I don't end up drinking out of some weird animal's watering hole again.

[ Finn falling into a pit of fiery doom but not coming up being smug. Why take away his fun moment?

Poe walked the desert of Jakku for a few days. Being smart enough to stay in the shaded areas away from the sun. He shouldn't have taken off of his jacket and wanted it during the trench. The jacket would have helped to keep the sun rays from beating down on him. Thinking about it though, Finn probably did use it in that matter since the other had it last. ]
Some guy named Lamar would be my guess. The natives were saying he died a long time ago though. It almost feels as if it's a set up of some kind. Maybe it was meant to go off way sooner but ended up way later. [ He gives a small shrug while a shake of his head. ]

There's plenty of water around here in cups. You don't have to worry about sharing with a Happabore.
misplacesfriends: (☐ It's gonna take a couple right hooks)

[personal profile] misplacesfriends 2018-03-25 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Because I'm a horribly rude mun? xD Though having him rise all badass like that would be awesome. And in that uniform~ Unf~]

A Happabore? That's what that was? [A small shudder.] That thing had foul breath.

They mentioned that Lamar guy, I take it he "died" before we started arriving here? Do you think his death triggered everything?

[ It's a bit funny since he'll think he probably died. Add the uniform to the mystery objects to come back. One not very sewed but stapled jacket and a First Order uniform. At least it's clothing and not a jumpsuit. ]

You were desperate enough to share a water hole with it. I ran into a Blarina before getting water. Since I had nothing on me I had to give him nothing but words. [ Words involving stealing an advance TIE from the First Order and crash landing on Jakku. He even got called mad man. ]

That's what it sounds like to me. If he died long before. Why do the theatrics now? I don't believe so. I'm more curious as to when and how he died. The how was probably a Sound Eater but, can't rule out the other possibilities.

[If he hadn't woken up in those hoses and that suit, he probably would have thought that he died in the whole Starkiller thing. Definitely stapled jacket. Though the uniform might wait a few rewards. At least until I can earn them.]

I walked miles of desert in the midday sun wearing black head to toe. [Poe at least had other colors on him. :T] Words?

Maybe it's someone from his family trying to get revenge for his death? [The feelings of injustice over it, of the lack of investigation or caring.... Something.] You think he might be, or might have been, in league with the Sound Eaters. If that's even a thing.

[personal profile] gotyourselfapilot 2018-03-28 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Instead of a million questions he only had one. Poe was a bit surprised by that but should have known. ]

You win this round. I was in at least lighter clothing. No weapons, no ship, no water or food. I didn't know where you were. All I wanted to do was try to find my droid or a way back to the Resistance. [ He smiles. ] All Blarina have a thing for words. Don't let them tell you otherwise.

Maybe. [ He gives a shrug. ] It could be anyone at this point. [ Poe tilts his head while looking at him with a slight parted mouth stare. ] I didn't think about that one. Only because the Sound Eaters seem to do what they want. If someone is actually controlling them. Things will start to get messy considering there's so many of us here.

If we get close to discovering the truth, that person could try to keep us away with fear.
misplacesfriends: (☐ I'm sure to lose)

[personal profile] misplacesfriends 2018-03-31 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, he's still got more. But really that was the one that jumped out first. He was a somewhat sheltered soldier, fed only what they wanted him to know. And usually that only included an alien's weak spots to fire into.]

I still don't even know where you landed, the cockpit was empty, straps torn. All that was left was your jacket. [How did he slip out of it even?] So they want stories...

Doesn't sound like the natives would be any help with figuring out who that would be either. Especially if they can't keep track of those that are supposedly dead. [ie Lamar.] Think they'd end up trying throwing dust at again with a different result? [A worse one than color absence?]

[ Poe would answer any kind of questions, Finn would have had. Even if it was the one, all he could have said was where she went. Being here though meant learning new things anyway. Poe could have Finn meet the native woman with the twins. She would at least be helpful to get some knowledge from this planet. ]

I crawled out of the TIE fighter and started walking. I had no idea where you landed. [ He didn't stay behind either knowing that the First Order could have been tracking that TIE. He picked a direction and went on. The jacket was immediately taken off as he went into the seat to take control. ] My story about getting rescued and crash landing on Jakku worked. They appreciate words. It doesn't have to be a story. He wanted to scavenge me. I had nothing but words.

[ There's a shrug, it sounds a bit maddening hearing about it and talking about it now. ]

They're probably just as confused by all of this. A man that was supposedly dead is now suddenly alive. It would make anyone question things. I'm not ruling out that possibility. I want to know if it's only the red dust or if it's mixed with something else. [ If the red dust could be used in such a matter it probably could do something worse. Poe didn't really want to think too much about that. Fear was already apparent in the town hall. ]

For now, we'll take what we know. I really dislike being colorblind.

[Finn would like to meet her!

Yeah, no, don't remind him of that. But at least they both headed in good directions.]
Hey, at least we made it out of there.

And they wouldn't have any idea about why the dust is making this [Waving a hand in front of his face, in reference to colorblind with a spot of color.] happen, you think?

[personal profile] gotyourselfapilot 2018-04-02 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Done deal! It can happen whenever.

But why? Jakku is such a great place!! It's where Rey was. Finn truly went into the right direction. ]
Yeah, we did. We'll try to make it out of here next.

If they did, they may tell us. I don't particularly trust them to tell us though. For all we know it could be original and they may not know that the red dust could be used in this matter. [ There's a slow shrug while smiling at Finn. ] You're coming up with good questions. Do you have anything others that don't involve the current situation?
misplacesfriends: (☐ It's time to face the truth)

[personal profile] misplacesfriends 2018-04-03 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Perhaps an April thing!

True, but it's still not his favorite environment.]
This one seems a little bit harder than even Jakku. [He felt like he got lucky with finding the right station that had ships that could get off planet.]

Fresh set of eyes, maybe. [In reference to the questions.] Might have to get back to you on that. Maybe we have to earn their trust a little bit more before they'd tell us.
gotyourselfapilot: (pic#12168614)

[personal profile] gotyourselfapilot 2018-04-03 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Absolutely!

Poe would rather be in a metal machine. ]
The Sound Eaters will be a problem. From what I've been learning. This planet may not have even made it to space travel. It'll be even harder if that happens to be true.

[ He claps a hand on Finn's shoulder. ] Very true, I've pretty much been going through the motions and haven't had something quite like this in a while. We can try to earn trust and see what happens. It may take time to do that though. If they were even ordered from a higher command they won't say anything if they are loyal to them.

[ He's seen how that could be. An order from a command of do nothing. Poe would break that order every time if it meant doing the right thing. ]
