MOD LOG #3
Arriving in style
Content Warnings: Fighting, death, violence
Themes: Survival, plot
It's early in the day when it happens. The red dust that seems to be everywhere sweeps through the city streets, mixing with the steady patter of rain and making it hard to see and breathe. All red and leaving the taste of copper if inhaled, what could have been an easy day without any trouble quickly becomes anything but. While those in the community are heading for cover or finding ways to continue on through it, the new arrivals begin waking up in different cities all over the world. There won't be anyone to greet them, and leaving the room through the door is their choice - after doing so, they'll immediately step out into the city they were assigned. The streets are empty, houses abandoned, everything crumbling and in ruins. There will be signs noting their location, which they'll catch a glimpse of before a sharp push forward causes darkness to engulf them.
Waking up for the second time, in Reims but not in the Reset Room, they'll come to inside the red dust as it whips through the streets of the community. They won't be alone for long. Another person will be waking up beside them, and after a few moments of disorientation, try to attack. They might have weapons or use their hands, and they will not stop until they've taken a fatal blow. Their blood is dust, and they, along with their weapons, disintegrate after they've died. Can you stop them on your own? Will someone come to your aid?
The Sight of Lightning
Content Warnings: Poison, sex
Themes: Survival, plot
The day after the storm, the same red dust will find its way through Reims and come into contact with every person. Since the dust is everywhere, some might not notice that it's floating through the community and know that something is off. The effects don't begin until night fall, where everyone will feel the desire to seek out companionship of many different kinds. Though it is not always the case, the people that saw each other in color will "want" to be with that person more strongly than they might already, and will be more likely to confess or do something about it. Some might feel an intense need to be around another person, though not necessarily sexually - almost as if they need that person around them to be happy or content. For some, it might be a desire that can only be fulfilled by more than one person.
The effects wear off the next time the person gets wet. This can be a splash of water across the face or fully submerged. Or even drinking something.

Kara | Supergirl
[Kara's out in the dust and the rain, red mud caking under her feet, her cape stuck to her back. Rivulets of red run on the sidewalks and the grass where the sandpaths aren't. It looks like blood, and she doesn't want to think about that, and as the rain pours down, she finds it difficult to see that anymore. She's almost grateful in a way.
This storm is awful, and Kara trudges through Reims, trying to orient herself with landmarks - the fountain, the houses, the highest tower of Town Hall, and in the distance, the hospital. Her head jerks when she hears a scream, and then she's running, splashing through the red mud in a blur of motion just as an attacker is closing in on someone Kara doesn't recognize, but they aren't in a jumpsuit.
New arrivals weren't even supposed to be coming here today. That doesn't matter now. Instead, Kara's screaming, turning the attention of the attacker on herself.]
Hey! Stop right there!
Arriving in Style #2 (oldbies)
[It's chaos, nothing more. The storm has rained down chaos and pain, attackers coming out of the shadows in broad daylight, masking their own sounds with the sounds of the downpour around them. Kara's hair is matted, clinging to her neck, as she whips around, trying to stare into the rain, willing herself to see more than she can, to run in whatever direction of help she needs. There's a figure, darting through the rain, and she takes off for them, not sure if they're a friend or an attacker.
When she reaches them, she grabs their arm, whipping them around. Oh thank God, it's someone she knows. She takes a deep breath.]
What are you doing out in this right now??
The Sight of Lightning (open)
[Kara's been cleaning, trying to repair the damage the storm and the dust had done, including cleaning up the concentrated piles of dusts where bodies had fallen. It's a miserable job, but someone has to do it, right? She's dedicated to the task, carrying sandbags to help the sandpath techs repair and doing whatever she can. She doesn't really take the time to notice the filters of red dust still in the air.
She barely even stops working to eat, which is saying something with her appetite. So when it's finally dark and she starts to trudge back to her apartment, exhausted and sweaty and a mess, there's a weird sensation of longing that swoops through her. At first, she thinks, heck, it might just be longing for her bed, or pot stickers (oh Rao, pot stickers), but there's something more to it than that. Something stronger than that, and she stops on the path to her house, one hand on her heart, almost like she's looking for someone.
It takes her a hot second to figure out who that someone is, but if your character runs into her, they might get to hear the sudden gushing truths escaping Kara about Faith. Oopsie poopsie~
(feel free to catch her before she's Full Besotted if your character just needs an A+ hug from Supergirl ok)]
CR Roulette (locked to Arya-forward dated to 3/31?? ish??)
[the sand's still wet from the previous day's rain (a blissfully quiet summer storm in the spring, unlike the storm before it, and lacking in dust and murder), and Kara is flying around the perimeter in the morning, patrolling the city. Near the bridges, leading out of the community, is a set of footprints - clear as day in the sand even from pretty high up. The weirdest part, to Kara, is that they're pointed out. She's pretty sure there's no trips planned outside of Reims, so what would anyone be leaving for? That's way too dangerous.
When she lands to investigate it, Arya's there too, staring at the footprints, and when Kara gets closer, she can see, compared to her own, and compared to Arya's, these footprints are huge. Arya's the only familiar face there, so Kara's quick to turn to her and sign:]

[if none of this fits your fancy, there's always these options to start things off:
- see her patrolling! mornings and nights, up in the sky!
- see her lifting impossibly heavy things while cleaning!
- Kara (not Supergirl) is usually out and about on most days and will always stop for a chat bc she's intent on Knowing Everyone and the journalist in her keeps very impeccable notes!
- Both her inbox and movie nights posts are things too.
- See her in sign language class? Or at the clinic sometimes? Or the cemetery?
- IF YOU have any other ideas, bring them on!! Or hit me up at

We shouldn't wander too far. If the sand stops, we should stop. Okay?

[She could fly them out of there, but it makes Kara nervous to have Arya out and about like this. She's a kid, despite the fact that she seems absurdly capable. Kara won't let anything happen to her, but it'd be much easier to protect her in Reims, on familiar ground. After all, they've gotten the song and dance of all the people who tried to leave and never came back.]

Leo's holed up in his room, door closed, certain that no one will be able to hear and thus become bewitched by his song. He starts to play on the flute that Sora made for him, a beautiful, haunting song that sounds a little mournful at the start, but soon becomes more uplifting the longer he plays. He'd taken precautions to make sure no one would be caught in the thrall of it, but one thing he hadn't taken into account was a certain Kryptonian's super-hearing...]
oh my god it's happening...!!!
What's distinctly not terrible is the melody that begins playing, low at first, and then a little louder, or at the very least, clearer. Kara comes to a halt in the sky, floating there above the houses as she looks around, trying to pin what direction the music is coming from. It's beautiful, haunting, and it's been so long since she's heard music at all, that she feels inclined to chase it. Something in her wants to hear more of it, wants to find out the source of it.
So, she flies in the direction of it, floating along like an old cartoon dog chasing the smell of something cooking. It's not far that she has to go, just to house six, and then she's floating above the building, x-raying through the ceiling to see who could be playing the beautiful music.
When she spies Leo, she's surprised. He always seems so grumpy, but that doesn't stop her from floating down to his window, tapping on the glass with one fingertip quietly to get his attention, her eyes a little dazed from the enchantment of the song.]

He nearly falls off the bed when he sees Kara floating outside his window. Honestly, this was something he hadn't planned for. He would have thought maybe one of his housemates might get ensnared barging in on him without knocking. But not someone all the way outside. How had she even heard him all the way out there?
He can see her soul shining plainly, running over the surface of her skin. What he sees gives him a shock. Part of her skin has the red glow of a sinner. But cleanly divided down the other side is the white glow of an innocent soul. He's never seen anything like it before. He stops playing and opens up the window, gesturing for her to come in. She should still be in the thrall of the music for the next couple of minutes, which should give him enough time to hear her confess what sins lie upon her soul.. Now this is one mystery he's keen to solve.]
I wrote you a book and I'm SORRY (cw: talk of murder and death)
For now, she lowers his window behind her and sits cross-legged on his bed, her back against the wall and her lips pressed together. There's a moment where she doesn't want to admit what she's done, shame written on her face, and she channels whatever super strength she has to keeping her mouth shut. But it's hard; he needs to know. She needs to confess.
None of the things she's done will go away just because she keeps them to herself. It's not long before she gives in, in a rush.]
I was fighting, this monster named Parasite. An alien that had taken over the body of this scientist, and he was destroying... everything, hurting people, trying to kill people, throwing cars, going crazy. The parasite was hungry, for energy, looking for ways to suck it out of people, out of electricity, and to stop him, I tried overpowering him with Plutonium-239. And it worked. It was too much, though, and eventually Parasite died. And the scientist, he... he died as well.
[she tips her head back, staring at the ceiling, unwilling to look him in the eye.]
There's been so many people die on my watch, even before I got here. The Banshee pushed one of my coworkers out a window with her voice, and I couldn't save her in time. And here, Rao's light, there's been so much death. All the time, it seems like people are dying to the Sound Eaters, popping up in the reset room, over and over again. It's not healthy. It can't be healthy. There are people here who think we will eventually turn into the Sound Eaters and surely dying over and over again doesn't help. I could save them all, but I keep being just. [she snaps her fingers.] A second too late, or I hear about it later and wonder why I didn't hear an attack, why someone didn't call for me. I'm the closest thing to invincible that's here, as far as I know, and I can't save them all. And that's on me. I should be better.
[she's quiet for a moment, tilting her head to just barely meet Leo's eyes. Her own are wet. This... this is the big one, the one she doesn't want to ever tell anyone about, but it bubbles up from deep inside of her, an overflowing well.]
I killed Frank. The mayor. "Hotdog" or. [she waves a hand.] Whatever. We were friends, and I got... sucked in by Kilgrave. He can mind control people, and I'm not... I can't resist something like that. I don't know how. And he told me to do so many awful things. He told me to kill whoever tried to take me from him.
And Frank just wanted to help. Frank and Jessica and Faith, they all... they all wanted to help me escape Kilgrave. Help Faith escape Kilgrave too. No matter how I tried to stay away, it seemed like he just crept back into my head, and then Frank convinced me to leave. Tricked me, kind of.
When I figured it out, though, I had to... I had to kill him. It's what I was told to do, but he was my best friend when I first got here. [the past tense hurts, but it's not a sin. It's something Kara can still keep locked away, that she alienated herself from Jessica and Frank by being an idiot, by believing that Frank had been in trouble when it had just been Kilgrave all along. By going back to him yet again.]
So, I did. [she taps the corner of her right eye.] With my heat vision. I tried not to, but I couldn't stop myself. I killed him.
[and then she'd died, but that's not a sin either. She sucks in a breath and sighs out with all the relief in the world after confessing. Maybe this is why some humans did this at church because part of her feels better, saying it out loud for what it is: murder and nothing else.]
haha good thing there is never such a thing as too long a tag with me.
Then she mentions Kilgrave. This is the second time someone has mentioned him, and frankly, Leo is greatly considering the merits of eating his soul just to take out this waste of sinful space. So she'd committed a sin when she wasn't in control of her own mind? Curious. Very curious.
He lets the song fade away as it ends, leaving nothing but calm and peace for Kara in its wake. It would be so easy to reach out and touch her, take away the corruption he sees in her soul, feed the hunger inside of him. Maybe if her soul was purely that of a sinner, he might do it, but he's never seen a soul like this before, with both sinner and innocent parts to their soul. He wants to figure out what's going on here.
He waits a few minutes for the song's effects to start to wear off, the glow to her skin beginning to disappear.]
You're far from the worst person I've ever heard a confession from. But your soul is curious. It's divided in two, one part sin, and one part innocent. I've never seen anything like it before.
no subject
But the song fades, and the brief calming euphoria she's under fades too, enough so that Kara's pulled out of the haze and looks up at Leo, brow furrowed. She'll ask about her soul in a bit, but right now she's mad. Mad that someone else - some other man in this stupid town - has controlled her mind again, made her do - well, say - things that she didn't want to ever tell anyone.]
What the hell was that? Why did I say all of that? Why did I even want to come here?

AiS #1
In the space of a breath, she moves in a blur, suddenly standing a foot to the side of where she was before. With her teeth grit, she lifts a booted foot and kicks it into the attacker's chest, sending him flying through the air toward the girl who just kept her from getting stabbed.]
Shoot! Incoming!
[She didn't mean to create an airborne weapon of her own. Whoops.]
no subject
For now, she leaps in the air, floating to catch the attacker mid-air. She spins him around and socks him in the face, sending him plowing into the red and muddy dirt below. She can hear him groan over the roar of the storm, and she lowers herself to the ground, sauntering over to him and yanking the blade out of his hand. He's not dead, but he should stay put for a second, fingers crossed.
She turns to face the woman then, pushing her own wet hair out of her face.]
Rao's light! You were awesome!
no subject
Thanks?
[That's not something people usually say about her, even if she thinks the things she can do are pretty awesome. It's nothing all that new in her circle.]
Were you just...flying?
no subject
[there's another groan from the man, and Kara whips around, sees him pushing himself off the ground on shaking arms and legs.]
Where are these guys coming from?
no subject
[Flying is pretty much the best super power ever and she's a teensy bit jealous but...that's a thought for another time. This girl has powers and isn't hiding them and that means she probably doesn't have to, either. That makes everything so much easier.]
I don't even know how I got here, let alone these guys. Besides, I'm not even sure they're real people.

arrival numero uno
Another yell cuts the air--a young woman's, muffled slightly by the mud and rain. But it's enough, and for a brief moment, she sees an opening. A non-lethal one, at least.
Diana dips low, sweeping her leg out at her assailant's, knocking him to the ground.]
THE QUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN
Geez, are you all right?
[the man is wriggling under her boot, hands flailing, and Kara bends to wrestle the knife out of his hands before standing again. There's no way he's going to be able to get up, not unless she lets him.]
winky face also are we keeping their tdm thread canon? i don't remember lmao i'm sorry
I am. Thank you for your help. It was becoming increasingly difficult not to truly harm him.
[She says this as casually as if talking about the terrible weather. She glances down, sees the man still struggling--and as gently as she can, kicks his face to knock him unconscious. It doesn't quite work, though she's sure she used enough force, and something odd happens: instead of blood, rust-colored sand trickles from his nose. Diana's brows pull together, and she shifts her weight backwards.]
What in the name of Zeus...?
Not sure if it'd really work with the storm and all BUT DANG IT WAS CUTE.
[that is officially too weird. These guys... are they not human? They look human enough, if a little generic, she guesses. And they're stuck in the red jumpsuits, just like the natives, unlike the new arrivals. Weird.
Still, the man's still wriggling, grabbing and slapping at Kara's leg to try and dislodge her. Not that it works.]
I don't want to kill him. We need some rope or something - stay here with him and I'll go find some?
sounds good! and yes it was c:
No need, I have some.
[Once her hand touches the lasso, it begins to glow faintly through the storm. She crouches, rope at the ready.]
Release him, and I will bind him. He will not be able to escape.
figured I'd re-incorporate a little of it here for fun and profit!
Kara holds her hands up, not releasing the dust guy yet because she has to ask:]
Wait. Wait, wait, wait, are you a superhero?
