MOD LOG #3
Arriving in style
Content Warnings: Fighting, death, violence
Themes: Survival, plot
It's early in the day when it happens. The red dust that seems to be everywhere sweeps through the city streets, mixing with the steady patter of rain and making it hard to see and breathe. All red and leaving the taste of copper if inhaled, what could have been an easy day without any trouble quickly becomes anything but. While those in the community are heading for cover or finding ways to continue on through it, the new arrivals begin waking up in different cities all over the world. There won't be anyone to greet them, and leaving the room through the door is their choice - after doing so, they'll immediately step out into the city they were assigned. The streets are empty, houses abandoned, everything crumbling and in ruins. There will be signs noting their location, which they'll catch a glimpse of before a sharp push forward causes darkness to engulf them.
Waking up for the second time, in Reims but not in the Reset Room, they'll come to inside the red dust as it whips through the streets of the community. They won't be alone for long. Another person will be waking up beside them, and after a few moments of disorientation, try to attack. They might have weapons or use their hands, and they will not stop until they've taken a fatal blow. Their blood is dust, and they, along with their weapons, disintegrate after they've died. Can you stop them on your own? Will someone come to your aid?
The Sight of Lightning
Content Warnings: Poison, sex
Themes: Survival, plot
The day after the storm, the same red dust will find its way through Reims and come into contact with every person. Since the dust is everywhere, some might not notice that it's floating through the community and know that something is off. The effects don't begin until night fall, where everyone will feel the desire to seek out companionship of many different kinds. Though it is not always the case, the people that saw each other in color will "want" to be with that person more strongly than they might already, and will be more likely to confess or do something about it. Some might feel an intense need to be around another person, though not necessarily sexually - almost as if they need that person around them to be happy or content. For some, it might be a desire that can only be fulfilled by more than one person.
The effects wear off the next time the person gets wet. This can be a splash of water across the face or fully submerged. Or even drinking something.

Maya Hart | Girl Meets World | arrival closed to Chloe the rest OTA
[ Maya knew pretty much nothing about traveling. The extent of her own excursions was traveling with her best friend's family to upstate New York. What she did know was that this was not New York City. Moments earlier she had woken up in a room that was completely unfamiliar and after leaving she had found herself outside in what looked like some apocalyptic Narnia. Confusion settled over her and she swallowed a lump that was forming in her throat. A bad dream. Whatever she had eaten last night before bed must be causing all of this. Or perhaps the lack of sleep she had been getting all these years was catching up to her.
Ah well, might as well check out the surroundings. She started to move forward searching for a sign and when she came across it, the words: Wellington, New Zealand were scrawled across it. ]
What the...
[ She couldn't finish her sentence because she felt something or someone shove her. After that there was nothing but darkness. When she came back around she felt like she was choking on something. No dream had ever felt so real, and her senses were overwhelmed by the thick cloud of red that she breathed in sharply. It's then that she realizes that she is not alone and someone else is near her. ]
Hey...You okay...?
[ The individual stands up and fear gripped at her. Whoever this person is, she can already tell they are not safe and she knew she had to get up and run. She was on her feet fast, grateful for once to not be in heels. The person is fast on her trail though and the dust is making it hard to breathe. ]
HELP!
The Sight of Lightning
[ This place sucked. She would never complain about school or any situation ever again. They all paled in comparison to being here. On top of that she was desperately lonely and aching for the companionship of the people she knew and loved, one best girlfriend in particular. Her bedroom had a window and she'd dragged a chest over to it, in hopes of making it a proper place to sit. It just sucked.
Not talking wasn't an impossible task for her, because she had learned as a young girl when to just shut up and stay out of the way. She knew how to not be seen or missed, but she didn't like it and she didn't want it. At least she knew well enough how to act like she didn't care.
When she grew tired of sitting alone by her window, she threw up her hands and made her way out of the bedroom. She never had been able to stay still for very long, used to wandering off when a situation felt too stifling. It was how she had ended up wandering the streets of NYC at five years of age.
She was staying at the third house, and she spent some time exploring the home.
When she got bored, yet again, she decided to venture outside. She wasn't sure who she would find, but it was better than staying cooped up inside. ]
[Wildcard]
[Something else you wanna do? Feel free to start something here!]
cw: violence
She had pulled herself up from bed, heading out through the kitchen first so she could grab one of the cooking knives just in case, and then snuck her way out the side door - just like with the birds. The girl she saw just outside her house was proving a distraction the way Rei had been, albeit not a willing participant, and she swallowed roughly at the sight of the second individual who was definitely not a bird. Or a Sound Eater. An actual person.
Fuck.
It was too much noise though and the threat would have to be eliminated quickly enough. She let the same instincts that had taken over her first days do the same here, walking quietly along the sand, keeping out of eyesight, right up until she was behind the guy attacking. Just when he looked like he was going to lunge again, Chloe jumped onto his back, wrapping her arms and legs around him, and immediately going to sink the blade into his neck.
He stilled, stumbled, and --- turned to... red dust? What the fuck?
She tried to dust it off of herself quickly as she scrambled up from the ground (stupid, considering the storm), before looking to the blonde. It startled her for a second - shit, she looked like Rachel - but she tried to shake it off quickly, going to try and grab her hand so she could drag her inside where it was safe, not stopping to think it might freak her out to have a girl who just killed a dude with a knife try and touch her. ]
Re: cw: violence
[ The whole scene flies in front of her eyes faster than she can take it all in. The situation had already been confusing and terrifying but having someone make an attempt on her life and then someone else jumping out from who knew where to kill the man? On top of that he didn't just fall down dead, he dissolved into a mess of red dust. It was a lot to process. The next thing Maya knew, the girl was grabbing her by the hand and dragging her off towards a house. She didn't even have time to say "Thank you", and on top of that for all she knew the girl would try to kill her next.
Overwhelmed and running on pure adrenaline, Maya couldn't help but try and yank herself away. Sure she could hold her on the city streets when it came to smart ass girl's who were not actually as tough as they pretended. Other than that she wasn't really a fighter and this situation had put her very far out of her comfort zone. She dug her heels in, trying to break free. At the very least, she wanted answers before she went further to who knew where. Unaware of the rule of quiet, she spoke up. ]
Stop! What are you doing? What was that?

Regardless, staying outside doesn't seem safe when there are people going nuts and attacking others. And the storm is hardly one she wants to get stuck in either. Everything tastes like copper when she breathes in and she remembers what happened last time. She doesn't want to be color blind again - or worse. So she let's her break free, holding up her hands in surrender, before speaking in a hushed tone. ]
Stop shouting. It's -- It's really hard to explain, but it definitely shouldn't be done out here, alright? We need to get out of this dust. It's not safe.

Finally, Maya nods her head in agreement and motions for the other girl to lead the way. As she follows her she stays close. It isn't long before they are inside the house that she had come out of to her rescue. Breathing in a deep breath, she is glad for the fresh air and to be out of that storm. ]
Okay. Can you tell me what is going on now?
no subject
Her eyes crack open to look at Maya, a slightly exhausted look on her face. Why was she so comfortable talking? Why was she wearing normal clothes? ]
You're new, aren't you? Why didn't they explain everything to you before they let you leave the room? [ It doesn't occur to her that she may have woken up elsewhere in the slightest. ]

When the questions start, she shakes her head and holds up her hands.]
Look, all I know is that last night I went to bed, and when I woke up I was in some empty room. I left the room, and was suddenly in some horror nerd's paradise. [ She paused recalling the far too recent details. ]
Oh right. It said I was in New Zealand. But I blacked out and woke up here and suddenly I'm the blonde bait.
no subject
Shit. ]
This isn't... You're in France. Reims, I guess. Though I think someone said this isn't actually Reims... I don't remember. Either way - it's not New Zealand. This place is totally fucked, just like where ever you were, but there's a community here. People who've lived here forever and people who just arrived in the same -- ... Sort of the same way as you. There's not a lot of rules, but the biggest one is one you were breaking like crazy just now. We're not allowed to make any noise.
[ There's a pause before she waves around at her kitchen. ] This room's soundproofed, so it doesn't matter as much here, but - everywhere that isn't, you don't talk. You don't walk off the sand, it muffles your steps. We get devices to help talk to people, through text or some will sign and the device's'll translate, but ... They won't let you out and about if you don't agree to stay quiet.

She wishes she didn't feel so alone and for a moment can't stop thinking about her best friend. Though, if this place is as insane as it sounds, she's glad the optimistic and loud best friend of hers isn't there to deal with it. Looking down at her hands and trying to keep the tears back she sighs. ]
Heh...I always wanted to go to France.
[ She swallows and looks up at Chloe. ]
So let me make sure I have this right: Monsters, communication devices, and silence. Sounds like a trip in some weird Del Toro flick.
