MOD LOG #3

MOD LOG #3

Arriving in style
Content Warnings: Fighting, death, violence
Themes: Survival, plot

It's early in the day when it happens. The red dust that seems to be everywhere sweeps through the city streets, mixing with the steady patter of rain and making it hard to see and breathe. All red and leaving the taste of copper if inhaled, what could have been an easy day without any trouble quickly becomes anything but. While those in the community are heading for cover or finding ways to continue on through it, the new arrivals begin waking up in different cities all over the world. There won't be anyone to greet them, and leaving the room through the door is their choice - after doing so, they'll immediately step out into the city they were assigned. The streets are empty, houses abandoned, everything crumbling and in ruins. There will be signs noting their location, which they'll catch a glimpse of before a sharp push forward causes darkness to engulf them.

Waking up for the second time, in Reims but not in the Reset Room, they'll come to inside the red dust as it whips through the streets of the community. They won't be alone for long. Another person will be waking up beside them, and after a few moments of disorientation, try to attack. They might have weapons or use their hands, and they will not stop until they've taken a fatal blow. Their blood is dust, and they, along with their weapons, disintegrate after they've died. Can you stop them on your own? Will someone come to your aid?

The Sight of Lightning
Content Warnings: Poison, sex
Themes: Survival, plot

The day after the storm, the same red dust will find its way through Reims and come into contact with every person. Since the dust is everywhere, some might not notice that it's floating through the community and know that something is off. The effects don't begin until night fall, where everyone will feel the desire to seek out companionship of many different kinds. Though it is not always the case, the people that saw each other in color will "want" to be with that person more strongly than they might already, and will be more likely to confess or do something about it. Some might feel an intense need to be around another person, though not necessarily sexually - almost as if they need that person around them to be happy or content. For some, it might be a desire that can only be fulfilled by more than one person.

The effects wear off the next time the person gets wet. This can be a splash of water across the face or fully submerged. Or even drinking something.

[It's not unsimilar to something he experienced in the not so distant past, only things felt hotter the longer you were away from another traveler. But it's nice so that things ease even if they're still there.

He's got a few river plants in the basket, harvesting them for planting later or use in remedies and whatnot.]

I'm sorry this was your first introduction to France, but it still holds a lot of the country's charm in the architecture at least. If we can find museums we can go into you can see some of the culture. [A nostalgic look crosses his face.] The kitchens were some of the best, though, the food in France was always fussy but well done. But I'm actually a Londoner, at least of the past few years, prior to that it was always travel.

[Strange things had happened aboard the Avagi as well, but none quite so strange as this. Most of what they'd had to deal with was evading monsters and ensuring their own survival. So she doesn't recognize this feeling for what it could truly be--a strange effect of the world itself.

But her face lights up at the mention of museums.]

I would love to see a museum.

[She had never been to one herself, but Steve and the others had told her about them during their journey to the Front. They sounded fascinating.]

And the buildings are beautiful here, much more so than London, I think.

[The English city had grown on her a bit, but it was still terribly hideous compared to Themyscira.]

[The redhead is horribly aware of it being something native to the world, somehow forced onto them. He hasn't quite connected it to the dust just yet, it was always something that was physically attached to them. The earwig or the collar. Never something so...environmental.

He grins, she's a bit after his own heart, this lady.]

There's a few museums in this city, more than likely. But we might have to build sand paths to them. [He glances at the buildings.]

France was always much more...story kinds of medieval in looks. London is much more utilitarian and fortress like. [He's not being really clear on it. But mostly he means romantic vs gothic.]

[She settles into a squat beside the river, so she can let her fingers rest on the surface of the water. It feels nice, and brings comfort.]

I would be willing to work on paths, just for the opportunity to visit a museum.

[It would be no real trouble, carrying the sand. The only issue, she thinks, is them having enough of it.]

There was too much stone in London. The buildings too tall.
historyrabbit: (sheepish φ Does it almost feel like)

[The whole trick of it is just not making noise. Lavi can control his own but he's learning how to do it with what he's interacting with in his environment.]

We'll have to get sand from the locals, but I don't mind helping with it. I'd love to see what else the world has come up with.

[A soundless laugh, there was that.] Especially when it came to their churches.

[Diana had demolished the last church she'd been to, but doesn't mention as much. It really had been a shame--even the rough stonework of Veld held a certain charm she couldn't deny. And she's seen a few bell towers and spires outside the current path system that looked promising as well.]

I'm glad I found someone who cares about the history of this place. [She offers another smile, and adds:] My name is Diana.

Hah, I actually am a historian of sorts. Though I've gotta say my record kind of ended at home way before the year that this world's news stopped. [It's not so much appreciation as it was his job. But there are parts (without humans) that weren't so bad.

He gives her a grin as well.]
Lavi, Bookman apprentice at your service.

It's good to meet you, Lavi. Have you caught up on the history of this world?
historyrabbit: (look up φ If you close your eyes)

[personal profile] historyrabbit 2018-04-10 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Halfway through it, at least what they've got recorded here. I went out with Hotdog's scouting group and it kept me away from the library for a little bit.

I would like to learn it, too. Perhaps in it we can find something that will help the people here.
historyrabbit: (confused φ Maybe I forgot)

[personal profile] historyrabbit 2018-04-12 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I can show you where the library is, if you haven't found it already. I'm trying to make it safe for everyone to visit, part of its falling apart from the lack of upkeep.

I would appreciate that a great deal. And perhaps I can assist with renovations.

Nice to meet another beautiful lady who doesn't mind getting her hands dirty. Let me get this one last cattail and we can go. [He's got an idea on how to use them. Eventually. Which is why he's trying to get the roots too.]
