MOD LOG #3

MOD LOG #3
Arriving in style
Content Warnings: Fighting, death, violence
Themes: Survival, plot
It's early in the day when it happens. The red dust that seems to be everywhere sweeps through the city streets, mixing with the steady patter of rain and making it hard to see and breathe. All red and leaving the taste of copper if inhaled, what could have been an easy day without any trouble quickly becomes anything but. While those in the community are heading for cover or finding ways to continue on through it, the new arrivals begin waking up in different cities all over the world. There won't be anyone to greet them, and leaving the room through the door is their choice - after doing so, they'll immediately step out into the city they were assigned. The streets are empty, houses abandoned, everything crumbling and in ruins. There will be signs noting their location, which they'll catch a glimpse of before a sharp push forward causes darkness to engulf them.
Waking up for the second time, in Reims but not in the Reset Room, they'll come to inside the red dust as it whips through the streets of the community. They won't be alone for long. Another person will be waking up beside them, and after a few moments of disorientation, try to attack. They might have weapons or use their hands, and they will not stop until they've taken a fatal blow. Their blood is dust, and they, along with their weapons, disintegrate after they've died. Can you stop them on your own? Will someone come to your aid?
The Sight of Lightning
Content Warnings: Poison, sex
Themes: Survival, plot
The day after the storm, the same red dust will find its way through Reims and come into contact with every person. Since the dust is everywhere, some might not notice that it's floating through the community and know that something is off. The effects don't begin until night fall, where everyone will feel the desire to seek out companionship of many different kinds. Though it is not always the case, the people that saw each other in color will "want" to be with that person more strongly than they might already, and will be more likely to confess or do something about it. Some might feel an intense need to be around another person, though not necessarily sexually - almost as if they need that person around them to be happy or content. For some, it might be a desire that can only be fulfilled by more than one person.
The effects wear off the next time the person gets wet. This can be a splash of water across the face or fully submerged. Or even drinking something.

And now that he's just staring at her and she looks a little lost. A frown forms where the smile had been. Pulling out her device to type, lamely.] I just wanted to see you. You're the only person here that I know... [She nearly turns back around and leaves, recognizing that this is a mistake.]
no subject
He's sorry. And he pats at his pockets, stupidly, before locating his device and typing that himself (slow, because Logan's holding it in one palm and poking at the screen with the index of his opposite hand). ]
Sorry.
[ That's just as lame, he knows. He wants to wince at himself, but he's starting to understand that Raven is terribly receptive to body language. ]
You're OK. I'm just bad at polite.
[ He hates how slow he is at typing, Christ. ]
You as freaked out by this place as I am?
no subject
The awkwardness he's showing does relax her slightly, but Raven still begins to feel the creeping doubt of her choice, the utter ridiculousness in coming. It felt like a compulsion, like a force overtaking her. But he's still talking to her, so that's good? Perhaps she'll stay a bit longer...]
I'm bad at it too. I came uninvited. You've no reason to want to talk to me. [She doesn't like how pitiful that makes her sound, but there's no taking it back now.]
Yes, it's all a lot to accept.
But I can walk around as myself. Some people stare, but nothing malicious. [That part is nice. Some amount of light that cuts through the terror.]

[ Logan only has some vague knowledge of why the townspeople are quiet, but knows it's nothing good. More pressingly, however, he thinks he's happy for Raven, for this little victory. Or he's happy to see Raven? Happy to be around Raven in general?
The noise in his head -- the loneliness -- has started to ebb away in bits and pieces, and all they've done so far is type at each other. Though he doesn't want to scare her away, he takes a few steps closer, which probably looks stupid given he's just going to type into his device again. ]
Your shoulder's OK?
no subject
Yes, good as new. I don't heal as fast as you. But reasonably fast.
[There's a slight growing flirtation in her smile as they continue, like she's finally working up the courage.] I've been meaning to thank you. For helping me out of the storm. For saving me. [Again. Only this time it hadn't been saving her from herself.]
no subject
[ It's what he does -- saving people -- but Logan isn't pompous enough to say such a thing, much less type it out. It's weird, actually, to be in a community and not worry about the end of the world. But that's only because this world has already ended.
He smiles a bit himself, though there's an edge of self-deprecation there that isn't in the curve of Raven's lips. ]
I'm glad you're OK. [ And he means that not just in the fact that she's walking now, but in the fact that she doesn't seem to be the morally grey Mystique that Logan knows. The killer. Logan doesn't have any right to any moral higher ground, but it's nice to think that even if he failed to save the world, at least he managed to stop someone from becoming an unrepentant murderer. ]
You can thank me by trying not to get into too much trouble.
[ Even if that's impossible. ]
no subject
While she's no killer, she's hardly any kind of saint. She's still full of anger about a lot of things and she's not the endless optimist like Charles is. But she is overall, a good person. Raven opens her mouth nearly about to laugh before shutting her mouth again.] I can't make any promises. I'm walking trouble.

[ Typically touch that hasn't been warned for would have Logan pulling his hand back. It's something about mistrust and trauma brought about by violence, that sort of thing. But tonight he's been feeling off to begin with, and so Logan spares a momentary glance at Raven's hand where it's close to his own, then returns the fleeting touch in the careful brush of his knuckles against hers.
They're all right. ]

[ Both his brows lift while he gives her a shrug. ]
Saying "how dare you" doesn't make me any less right.

[ Man, it's a good thing his jumpsuit muffles little smacks like that. ]
Trouble ain't bad in small doses. Something like that.

[ He'd shrug, but it seems unnecessary, what with him typing everything. ] Least you have furniture, huh?
[ At least he's assuming she has furniture. ]
no subject
But I've slept in worse places. [She hasn't always had a home, after all.] You could probably find something to sleep on if you actually looked. Or do you like sleeping on cement?
no subject
Don't ask for much. Seems stupid to expect anything from this hellhole.
[ His finger hovers over his screen as if he were about to type something, but he thinks better of it. Logan's face is pretty easy to read; the change in topic is palpable in the shift of his brows, the relaxing around his mouth. ]
I'll knit you a pillow.
no subject
[The offer he gives her, the way he shifts topics. Yeah, that wouldn't have been lost on even the most oblivious of people. It's nearly as startling as the offer itself. What might have he been about to say? Raven cocks her head.]
You knit?
no subject
Job assignment. I made a pot holder.

[ Raven might think it nonsense, but Logan's already making a memo in his head. Mostly he thinks it's her smile that cemented it for him. ]
