It's early in the day when it happens. The red dust that seems to be everywhere sweeps through the city streets, mixing with the steady patter of rain and making it hard to see and breathe. All red and leaving the taste of copper if inhaled, what could have been an easy day without any trouble quickly becomes anything but. While those in the community are heading for cover or finding ways to continue on through it, the new arrivals begin waking up in different cities all over the world. There won't be anyone to greet them, and leaving the room through the door is their choice - after doing so, they'll immediately step out into the city they were assigned. The streets are empty, houses abandoned, everything crumbling and in ruins. There will be signs noting their location, which they'll catch a glimpse of before a sharp push forward causes darkness to engulf them.

Waking up for the second time, in Reims but not in the Reset Room, they'll come to inside the red dust as it whips through the streets of the community. They won't be alone for long. Another person will be waking up beside them, and after a few moments of disorientation, try to attack. They might have weapons or use their hands, and they will not stop until they've taken a fatal blow. Their blood is dust, and they, along with their weapons, disintegrate after they've died. Can you stop them on your own? Will someone come to your aid?

The Sight of Lightning

The day after the storm, the same red dust will find its way through Reims and come into contact with every person. Since the dust is everywhere, some might not notice that it's floating through the community and know that something is off. The effects don't begin until night fall, where everyone will feel the desire to seek out companionship of many different kinds. Though it is not always the case, the people that saw each other in color will "want" to be with that person more strongly than they might already, and will be more likely to confess or do something about it. Some might feel an intense need to be around another person, though not necessarily sexually - almost as if they need that person around them to be happy or content. For some, it might be a desire that can only be fulfilled by more than one person.

The effects wear off the next time the person gets wet. This can be a splash of water across the face or fully submerged. Or even drinking something.

[She does roll onto her back, eyes looking a little glazed from the pain and up at Logan. Raven bares her teeth, making a slight hissing sound.] I c-can hear you. I think she dislocated my shoulder... but I've got it. [Raven closes her eyes a moment. One perk of being a shapeshifter is that moving her own bones around is quite a simple thing, albeit painful in this case. There's a sickening pop followed by relief flooding her.] There's got to be a way out of this storm.

[danzan]

This is a town, so --

[ Logan's head suddenly twitches up, and he leaves Raven for just a moment to disappear in the whorls of red and whipping water. There's no doubt as to what he just did based on the loud RAAAGH that follows, but when he returns to Raven's line of sight, his claws are gone. ]

So there're buildings. Shelter.

I can take you to one.

[personify]

[In that moment Raven nearly thinks he's leaving her behind and a look of pure irritation flickers on her face but then she hears it. Another attacker. Crawling to her feet, she's a little bit wobbly but keeps herself steady after a moment.] Yes, okay... if you know where one is. [Raven's not sure how much help she's going to be to anyone else out in this, especially not with how her shoulder is starting to slowly throb despite being popped back in place.]

[danzan]

Actually, [ his head cocks to the side ] I do.

[ And then, at the risk of getting a look and a very verbal opinion in response to his question, he goes ahead and asks: ] You need me to carry you?

[ Because Raven certainly looks out of sorts, and Logan doesn't really want to take any chances. ]

[personify]

[He definitely receives both of those things.] Carry me and I'll choke you. [Look. She needs to have some of her dignity left by the time this fight is over.] Just lead the way and I'll keep up. I promise. [She's exhausted, but she can make it on her own two feet.]

[danzan]

[ In the wake of all this shit, Raven's attitude has him cracking a bit of a smile (he's the one with regeneration and she's still got more energy to be human than he does). ] I'll count on it.

[ Then he starts running, stopping every so often to attack anything that gets in his way. Even if Raven told him she'd be able to catch up, he ends up turning back once in a while, his ears pricked as much as they can manage even in the ravaging noise of the storm.

He points towards a shed, then looks back at Raven. ] I got a guy in there who's been looking over injuries!

[personify]

[She keeps up, but it's a struggle to maintain and present the front that she's fine. Raven is exhausted and each step is a struggle, but she's right behind him when he points out the shed.

A guy. In the shed. She's a little wary, but perhaps she can help...]

I know first aid. I can help him.

i'm thinking adrien can jump in after your tag?

[danzan]

His name's Adrien Arbuckal. Doctor. [ The correction comes before Logan can think better on how unnecessary it is.

They make it to the shed, though, and before he can think about it his hand moves to rest on Raven's shoulder, even though he knows she's doing her best to stay upright on her own. His fist lifts and he knocks out a quick pattern on the door, but if she's observant, she'll note it goes in the rhythm of Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star. ]

Guy's been taking care of some other people I've brought. He's -- [ His head cocks to the side. ] Well. Not really charming, but he's good at what he does.

[personify]

I met him already in the storm. But there wasn't much time for talking. [She knows that he looks like Charles too, although Logan doesn't say that. The fact that Raven doesn't immediately object to his touch just how tired she is. The pattern is noted though.] A talented asshole. Well, then, Just my type. [Ha. She moves toward the door once its starts to open.]

[prorenataa]

[ As soon as he is pulling the door open, he is also offering a warm welcome. ]

Get the fuck in here, before something tries to follow you!

[ Yeah okay, not so warm, though his growling seems aimed more at the world -and dust creatures- in general rather than Logan or Raven. If Logan is still providing support, Adrien will take care of getting the door closed and blocked back up once they're through.

There was a choice of tables, it seemed he was in between patients at the moment. Though there are some splatters of blood and what looks like used bandage wrappers strewn about, enough to suggest he's been busy. ]

[danzan]

[ Once the door's blocked up, Logan makes a brief gesture towards Raven with a cock of his head. ] She took a pretty hard hit, dislocated her shoulder and got cut up. Told me you two met too, so... [ That makes it easy, he means to say, but he's sure Raven can fill in what blanks she wants. He's tired, but he's going to give himself a five minute break before he runs back out.

Logan looks over to the space provided with a brief twitch of his lips. He'd certainly been keeping Adrien busy with patients, he knows, and he appreciates it more than he can say. ]

[personify]

I'll be alright. It's not a priority... [She says looking at the state of some of the other patients in the room. But she looks exhausted and there are some cuts on her arms and along her stomach.] I can help you patch people up. I know the basics.

[prorenataa]

[ If it was one thing Adrien had experience with, it was combat field triage. Logan may have kept him busy, but he cycled through his patients with practical speed, getting them back on their feet and sending them off, in pairs when he could, to find better shelter.

Really, they had arrived during a bit of a lull. ]

I don't care if you know neurosurgery, you're not helping me while sporting a dislocated shoulder. Sit.

[ No one was actively bleeding out, so Raven was the priority. As he waited for her to take a seat, he glanced at Logan. ]

Any indication that it's slowing down out there?

[danzan]

[ Oh, Raven's not going to like being told to sit. But Logan bites back any remark and clears his throat as he looks to Adrien instead, shaking his head from side to side. ]

There're still people out there and more of these things coming. [ A pause. ] They turn into dust when they die, and that's the same dust swirling around everywhere.

Long as the storm's going, I don't think these things'll stop. Best I can do is bring people somewhere barricaded for them to wait it out.

[personify]

[He is earned a glare from Raven.] I'll be fine. I don't need to sit. Just pop it back in. It's not that hard. [You're so lucky you look like Charles, Adrien.]

[prorenataa]

[ The glare had absolutely no impact on the doctor, who glanced from her to Logan and back, before just shrugging.

Taking her at her word, Adrien wasted no time in positioning himself, grasping her arm and then cranking the joint back into place. It wasn't neat, or tidy and it probably hurt like hell but it would prove effective.

He's done this a few thousand times.

The one, slightly curious thing about the quick event, would be the sensation of a brief warmth around the joint. Had Raven suffered a hairline fracture in either her shoulder or arm, she might notice that there is no longer any pain or restriction from the break. If she hadn't? Well, the joint may just feel a bit better than it should, to anyone who has suffered a dislocation before. ]

Fascinating. So for every one we kill, it's simply cycling back into production for a new one?

[danzan]

[ Logan doesn't even wince at the sound of the crack, though it makes the hair on his skin stand on end. He affords Raven a look that definitely reads are you all right, and doesn't take his eyes off her even as Adrien addresses him. ]

Not "cycling", probably ain't a one-to-one ratio for death-to-life. But I think however we got here is how they got here too, and -- you both woke up beside a monster, [ it feels easier calling them monsters ] right?

They try to kill us, they don't stop 'till we kill them. But it's the same when you reverse it. [ Pause. ] We might be their monster. Which has me thinking this shitstorm's a survival of the fittest game.

[personify]

[This isn't Raven's first injury. It's not so bad in comparison to getting shot, but it's not exactly pleasant either. When he grabs her arm and yanks it back into place, she does a quite admirable job at only crying out for a moment with a shocked 'ah!' before she's rubbing her shoulder and moving away from Adrien. It doesn't escape her either that it feels odd as she rolls her shoulder, the seeming lack of even a dull pain. It has her giving Adrien a second look.

Her eyes catch Logan's concern and she waves it off with the slightest shake of her head. She's been through worse than a reset shoulder by a man with a gruff bedside manner. Raven will live.] Yeah, I woke up here to something attacking me.

So you think they might be real people? But with a reverse view? We seem like the dust monsters to them? [Well, that's an awful and disturbing thought to feed into her brain, Logan. Thanks for that.]

[prorenataa]

[ Adrien retreated to one of the tables and hopped up on it, listening to the two theorize. It was an interesting theory and his expression probably showed that as he pursed his lips thoughtfully and cocked his head to the side. ]

Wouldn't be the first time I was on the side of the monsters. [ He mused. ]

Though I have encountered some people who have said this dust happened before we showed up and they've indicated they've been here awhile. Are they seeing us as people and not the others? Or is it just a matter of case by case perspective?

[danzan]

Hey, I'm not a genius, here. [ Logan holds his hands up in front of his chest in some clear show of disclaiming, then shakes his head. ] But there're different definitions of "people", aren't there.

So far, if I see someone hesitate to kill, they're the one I help. But that's because those're my morals. [ He understands the hypocrisy in this with how much he's been killing himself, but he's learned that that's what he does best. The best he can do is use it to protect instead of harm without reason. ]

For all we know, there're people out there helping the ones with the weapons out to kill. "The strong should live", all that.

[ Logan shrugs. ] I don't know.

Either way, I'm going to pretend I deserve not being dead more than those things do.

[personify]

[She feels a pang in her gut. Many people might look at Raven herself and think of her as something other than a person. But she's not been attacking anyone who hasn't attacked her. So maybe it's something else.

There's also the matter of Logan's odd moral code and the hypocrisy there. But she's not calling him out on it. Instead she's only grateful that he helped save her while implementing that apparent code.] You do deserve to live more than the people trying to kill us. There's no pretending necessary. [Of this she's got no doubt and the look on her face is firm.]

[danzan]

[ That has Logan looking at Raven with a slightly amused expression -- but he wipes it off, nodding his head instead. He's not here to argue the fine lines of his existence, so he won't. ]

Thanks. [ He means it. ] I'll remember that.

[ Looking at Adrien now, his expression is serious. ] You going to be okay in here?

The both of you. [ Him and Raven. ]

'cause honestly, I think I'll pull more people in still.
