MOD LOG #3

MOD LOG #3

Arriving in style
Content Warnings: Fighting, death, violence
Themes: Survival, plot

It's early in the day when it happens. The red dust that seems to be everywhere sweeps through the city streets, mixing with the steady patter of rain and making it hard to see and breathe. All red and leaving the taste of copper if inhaled, what could have been an easy day without any trouble quickly becomes anything but. While those in the community are heading for cover or finding ways to continue on through it, the new arrivals begin waking up in different cities all over the world. There won't be anyone to greet them, and leaving the room through the door is their choice - after doing so, they'll immediately step out into the city they were assigned. The streets are empty, houses abandoned, everything crumbling and in ruins. There will be signs noting their location, which they'll catch a glimpse of before a sharp push forward causes darkness to engulf them.

Waking up for the second time, in Reims but not in the Reset Room, they'll come to inside the red dust as it whips through the streets of the community. They won't be alone for long. Another person will be waking up beside them, and after a few moments of disorientation, try to attack. They might have weapons or use their hands, and they will not stop until they've taken a fatal blow. Their blood is dust, and they, along with their weapons, disintegrate after they've died. Can you stop them on your own? Will someone come to your aid?

The Sight of Lightning
Content Warnings: Poison, sex
Themes: Survival, plot

The day after the storm, the same red dust will find its way through Reims and come into contact with every person. Since the dust is everywhere, some might not notice that it's floating through the community and know that something is off. The effects don't begin until night fall, where everyone will feel the desire to seek out companionship of many different kinds. Though it is not always the case, the people that saw each other in color will "want" to be with that person more strongly than they might already, and will be more likely to confess or do something about it. Some might feel an intense need to be around another person, though not necessarily sexually - almost as if they need that person around them to be happy or content. For some, it might be a desire that can only be fulfilled by more than one person.

The effects wear off the next time the person gets wet. This can be a splash of water across the face or fully submerged. Or even drinking something.

[Teddy melts against the boy, his heavy body relaxing, putting more of his weight than usual onto Eddie's leg. The reset room is an almost peaceful place even if most of his visits to him have been a direct result of the deaths that came prior.

He is comfortable, and content to be so close to the boy he could call friend. It was a relationship he had previously thought humans could only have with other humans, and he was enjoying having a friendship of his own. His tail slides happily back and forth along the floor when Eddie gives him a kiss and a pet, and he noses up at Eddie's hand afterward.

The details of his death are still fuzzy as they often are for days after his return, but he assumes this death came the same way as the one before it, so he focuses on that one instead of fighting the confusion to try and remember the most recent death.]

Sound Eaters, I think. Another test must have failed. We will get it, though. I am sure we will. And then we will make this place safer for you and everyone else.

(Eddie is glad that Teddy can genuinely relax. He has absolutely no problem with serving as a personal body pillow for the dog either. He spent most of his time stockpiled with his friends anyway, and a dog was a hell of a lot more comfortable.

He was glad that he could give Teddy friendship. It would have never occurred to him that a dog had never experienced that on his own before. Teddy is a good dog, and of course, a cute dog. Eddie smiles and pets at his nose. He wonders if Teddy was the kind of dog who enjoyed playing fetch and stuff. He seemed like a very serious dog...but was there anything bad about having fun?)

Oh. You need to be careful, Teddy. I know you want to make this place safe, but what happens if you don't get reset? That's possible. One day you could just be gone. And you can't help anyone if you're gone. You need to take care of yourself too.

(Getting chastised by a twelve year old. What's that like, buddy.)

[Teddy feels the tug of guilt that comes so easily to the canine whenever a human expresses displeasure over something he's done. But he knows Eddie's chastising comes from a place of concern, not anger, and he rolls onto his side, rubbing the top of his head against Eddie's stomach and rolling over onto his back. Eddie is a good boy who cares, and Teddy respects him and his words.]

You are right. I will be more careful.

[For now though he will just enjoy being near a familiar scent and pressed to the warmth of a friend. Eddie makes the ache in his tired limbs feel distant, and a strange fluttery feeling in his chest that's warm. One he's beginning to learn is happiness. In the safety of the silenced walls, he lets his tail swish along the floor and gives the boy's hand a lick of thanks for worrying over him.]

Thank you, Teddy.

(And guess who's getting some belly rubs for rolling over? Teddy. He's glad that Teddy cares enough about him to respect that sort of thing. He's also happy to see him acting a little more carefree in regards of being a dog. Even dogs deserved to relax sometimes.

He smiles at the little lick, and those pets turn into scratches.)

I was wondering. Do you like playing with stuff? I know some dogs love playing stuff like fetch and tug of war.

(For all he knew, Teddy got bored too. Granted, he certainly had enough to do with all he did around town, but still. Not all that stuff was technically fun. Or at least Eddie figured as much.)

[For the first time in his life, Teddy experiences the involuntary need to kick his leg in the air, lightly and slow but the impulse is hard to resist as the boy manages to scratch itches on his dry skin that were too difficult for him to get on his own.

It takes him several minutes to regain composure and control enough to remember how to order and spell his next words.]

Fetching resources is my mission. The only wars I know of were not fun. I did enjoy the training games of chase when they were during solo training?

[It isn't a question, but the punctuation is Teddy's way of trying to convey his hopefulness that that is something fun like Eddie is looking for.]

We had to catch the drones before they could get to the end of the run.

(Oh no. It's the cutest thing in the world and Eddie stores that little spot in mind for next time he wanted to make Teddy a little happier.

What makes him really smile though are the words glowing on Teddy's collar. He even laughs a little bit, shaking his head at the dog.)

That's not what I meant by fetching- although that is pretty cool. I meant the fun of chasing part, yeah.

(That part was different, and that was exactly the part that Eddie was talking about.)

We can do that sometime if you want- you and me. I don't got much of a throwing arm on me, but it will still be a lot of fun I bet.

(He idly flexes one of his arms as if to display the lack of muscle there.)

And if we got a ball or something that was soft, it wouldn't make any sound when it drops. Although I bet you could get it before it even did.
