MOD LOG #3

MOD LOG #3

Arriving in style
Content Warnings: Fighting, death, violence
Themes: Survival, plot

It's early in the day when it happens. The red dust that seems to be everywhere sweeps through the city streets, mixing with the steady patter of rain and making it hard to see and breathe. All red and leaving the taste of copper if inhaled, what could have been an easy day without any trouble quickly becomes anything but. While those in the community are heading for cover or finding ways to continue on through it, the new arrivals begin waking up in different cities all over the world. There won't be anyone to greet them, and leaving the room through the door is their choice - after doing so, they'll immediately step out into the city they were assigned. The streets are empty, houses abandoned, everything crumbling and in ruins. There will be signs noting their location, which they'll catch a glimpse of before a sharp push forward causes darkness to engulf them.

Waking up for the second time, in Reims but not in the Reset Room, they'll come to inside the red dust as it whips through the streets of the community. They won't be alone for long. Another person will be waking up beside them, and after a few moments of disorientation, try to attack. They might have weapons or use their hands, and they will not stop until they've taken a fatal blow. Their blood is dust, and they, along with their weapons, disintegrate after they've died. Can you stop them on your own? Will someone come to your aid?

The Sight of Lightning
Content Warnings: Poison, sex
Themes: Survival, plot

The day after the storm, the same red dust will find its way through Reims and come into contact with every person. Since the dust is everywhere, some might not notice that it's floating through the community and know that something is off. The effects don't begin until night fall, where everyone will feel the desire to seek out companionship of many different kinds. Though it is not always the case, the people that saw each other in color will "want" to be with that person more strongly than they might already, and will be more likely to confess or do something about it. Some might feel an intense need to be around another person, though not necessarily sexually - almost as if they need that person around them to be happy or content. For some, it might be a desire that can only be fulfilled by more than one person.

The effects wear off the next time the person gets wet. This can be a splash of water across the face or fully submerged. Or even drinking something.

[ frank gets where she's coming from, which is why he doesn't do the research thing. it seems fruitless for much smarter people than him, so he leaves it be. ]

I'm due. [ for a break. he's owed, even if he doesn't think of it that way. ]

[His answer makes her arch an eyebrow, but she figures that with his being the mayor and all he probably is due a break. So instead of commenting on that her eyes look over his stack of books. In that stack is a copy of Jane Eyre, and her face lights up as she swiftly reaches over to grab it. Like she's playing Jenga, she pulls it out from the middle of the stack fast enough to not topple his pile over. ]

Austen is my absolute favorite writer. You wouldn't believe the things she's told me about her stories. Every time I'd visit her she'd tell me the most fascinating things over tea.

[She has to switch away from sign language and to the device for that, but at least she's surprisingly fast at typing with only a single finger.]

[ it's become second nature, anticipating noise and preventing it where he can. but when she takes a book from the middle of his stack he doesn't even consider that they might topple and kill them both. he trusts her to do it silently and she does.

he's pulling out his device anyway to catch what she's telling him. it's a very different thing to know that clara had amazing adventures and to hear about her going back in time (??) to meet jane austen. it truly is remarkable. ]
You met her? [ frank confirms, though he's nodding a second later so she won't think he doesn't believe her. ]

you can have that [ the book. it would go nicely with her selection. ] did you meet bronte too or just austen?

[To his first question, Clara eagerly nods. She also bites at her lip to try and hide a smile that only really gets plastered on her face when she thinks or talks about Jane.]

Met Bronte too, of course. But Jane was special. Played the best practical jokes and was a fantastic kisser.

[She misses Jane, actually, with no means to pop back in time to visit her. Her finger trails along the spine of the book before she glances back up his way. Opening up to people is hard for her, but she views Frank as a friend now. Telling him about her travels and the things dear to her heart feels natural.]

What about you? If you could travel to see your favorite writer, who would it be?

[ 'fantastic kisser' gets a little tip of his head. the very same one he had given her when she spoke of dancing with a woman. frank doesn't make assumptions about people, even when they're this overt. he just takes the information given and moves on. ]

no one's ever asked me that before. i don't know if i have a favorite.

[ he thinks about it for a few minutes, gears visibly turning in his head. the books that had the biggest impact on him... really weren't authors he'd ever want to meet. and he certainly didn't want to make out with sun tzu okay. ]

if i had to pick one to meet i guess - lewis carroll? [ he had always loved reading those books to lisa. and even before she was born, he remembers reading things like hunting of the snark and jabberwocky on long bus rides. he shrugs a shoulder. it's probably a lame answer. ]

[She finds that answer fascinating. He doesn't seem much like an Alice sort, but she loves the stories enough that she's a little taken with him for a moment. She grins and has to bite at her thumb to keep from signing something ridiculous.]

Oh, I'd love to go back and meet him too. I've always thought he must have the most fascinating mind.

[Clearly, talking writers and about their writing is just about her favorite subject. But she doesn't want to nerd out too much, because she still worries about his judging her and thinking she's a loser. So she tries to play it cool.]

If I had my tardis here, I'd take you to see him.

[Well, here goes nothing. Time to see how open minded he is.]

A sentient time machine?
