MOD LOG #3

MOD LOG #3

Arriving in style
Content Warnings: Fighting, death, violence
Themes: Survival, plot

It's early in the day when it happens. The red dust that seems to be everywhere sweeps through the city streets, mixing with the steady patter of rain and making it hard to see and breathe. All red and leaving the taste of copper if inhaled, what could have been an easy day without any trouble quickly becomes anything but. While those in the community are heading for cover or finding ways to continue on through it, the new arrivals begin waking up in different cities all over the world. There won't be anyone to greet them, and leaving the room through the door is their choice - after doing so, they'll immediately step out into the city they were assigned. The streets are empty, houses abandoned, everything crumbling and in ruins. There will be signs noting their location, which they'll catch a glimpse of before a sharp push forward causes darkness to engulf them.

Waking up for the second time, in Reims but not in the Reset Room, they'll come to inside the red dust as it whips through the streets of the community. They won't be alone for long. Another person will be waking up beside them, and after a few moments of disorientation, try to attack. They might have weapons or use their hands, and they will not stop until they've taken a fatal blow. Their blood is dust, and they, along with their weapons, disintegrate after they've died. Can you stop them on your own? Will someone come to your aid?

The Sight of Lightning
Content Warnings: Poison, sex
Themes: Survival, plot

The day after the storm, the same red dust will find its way through Reims and come into contact with every person. Since the dust is everywhere, some might not notice that it's floating through the community and know that something is off. The effects don't begin until night fall, where everyone will feel the desire to seek out companionship of many different kinds. Though it is not always the case, the people that saw each other in color will "want" to be with that person more strongly than they might already, and will be more likely to confess or do something about it. Some might feel an intense need to be around another person, though not necessarily sexually - almost as if they need that person around them to be happy or content. For some, it might be a desire that can only be fulfilled by more than one person.

The effects wear off the next time the person gets wet. This can be a splash of water across the face or fully submerged. Or even drinking something.

[What a kind hunter! Of course, by now she's met a few and she appreciates every single one of them! Her adoptive father, while technically retired as one, still works and hunts when necessary. But he advocates for peace and isn't nearly as rough or trigger happy as a few others she's met. Progress is slow, but any little bit helps in the end.

. . . Even if most hunters, at home at least, are still pretty grumpy and slow to trust.]

I actually haven't met many people from other words with individuals like myself yet. [A few, but not many. And if there are others, well-- they feel different enough that she can't quite tell. She knows there are a number of non-humans, but she can't exactly say what they are.]

Out of curiosity, could I ask about your home? The general public is aware of our existence in my world, but that's only a recent revelation, and most of us prefer to just blend in if possible. It causes a stir otherwise.

If it happens on a massive scale, it's difficult to hide...

[That's basically what happened back home.]

Usually a vamp--- [Er.] A magical girl or hunter would erase a person's memories, and that still happens frequently. Most people have misconceptions about people like myself, though recently universities and schools have taken to teaching others about what they take to be facts.

Well, they don't believe anything about stakes or garlic or the like anymore. Maybe back before vampires became public knowledge that would have been the belief though.

[It's just... most humans speculate or get leaked information from the hunters. Most vampires don't care to get up in front of a class about humans and share their secrets.]

Mostly they talk about things like how we prefer the shade, or about our diets.

[She didn't go on to attend a higher education after she privately finished high school, so she doesn't know what they say word for word, though her friend from home did. She had a few things that made it impossible to cloister herself up alone with humans without discomfort for a period of time. Maybe she'll go back someday...

Her question, though, gives her sudden pause.]

Eh? [She blinks before her eyes widen.] EHH!? What did Zero say about me!? [Zero... Zero.] Did he mention his occupation? Or. . .

That idiot. People are more accepting of uniqueness here, but doesn't he realize that could put a target on his back?

[She makes a face, biting the inside of her cheek. So reckless. Says the pot to the kettle She quietly mumbles to herself a moment more, before closing her eyes and realizing a sigh.]

But-- yeah, I suppose he wouldn't be too careless. If anything, he probably said a number of embarrassing things. That sounds like the kind of thing he might be more likely to do.

[Though careless words at home are what paints a target on his back, for those who aren't very approving of their...friendship.]

Did you two talk about all kinds of hunter things, then? [Reaching out she grasps one of the other girl's hands] Please be friends with that stubborn person. He needs more people he can relate to. While he's a lot better since high school, he can be anti-social and standoff-ish.
