MOD LOG #1

Packing Up
Content Warnings: General tension
Themes: Survival, exploration, heavy-lifting

At the end of the month, the natives send out a mass message informing everyone of the upcoming trip to 'meet' the Sound Eaters. Preparing for the trip is simple, though labor intensive, and begins with making certain that everyone packs food, water, clothes, gear, and a twenty-pound package of sand. When it's time for the journey to begin, those tasked with watching the sandpaths, will lead the party on the journey towards the Eiffel Tower. It's a slow trip, a careful one. Natives will take breaks every few hours and when the sun sets, help everyone to set up their bed rolls around a few lanterns. The natives will unveil the star mapping feature, with constellations named and general history attached, on the devices. They will encourage those to tell stories, get out food and water, and 'talk' amongst the group before everyone settles into sleep. Out, under the night sky, the silence is more noticeable - there are no crickets or frogs. This process will repeat for two days until the group reaches the end of their destination at midday.

Sound Eaters
Content Warnings: Disorientation, confusion, character and native death, Sound Eater birth and death, body horror
Themes: Survival, exploration, horror, death

On the third day, characters will finally reach the Eiffel Tower, where the Sound Eaters in this area of France have set up their 'home'. Stopping far enough out to allow for communication, the natives will gesture to the ruins of the structure that appears to be altered. Structures are built up and around the metal frame, closing off different sections with a dark material that glints an oily-green in the light. After explaining that the Sound Eaters are influenced by the weather, rain being an issue for them, they'll take everyone closer. Silence is key here. The natives are visibly wary, tense, and uncomfortable but they believe that showing the arrivals what they're so afraid of will inspire them to be more cautious.

Now, as close to the Sound Eaters as they dare to go (less than a half mile), the natives will have everyone crouch down behind various cars and debris. The devices will say only one word, watch. As the sun begins to set and clouds darken overhead, the tower will open up, the Sound Eaters spilling out. They are split up, as the natives refer to it, into classes - the young, the shifting and the matured. The young are extremely sensitive to sound, volatile and aggressive, humanesque in form with features in various state of change. The shifting are grotesque, splitting and reforming, changing from young to matured in a shift that is punctuated by pained screams and the breaking of bones, splitting of flesh. The matured are in control. They command and guide their kind into a circle, where they all bend down, kneeling as something different than the rest comes out of the tower to stand at the center. The wind catches, dusting up red ash from it and blowing the ash towards the group - there's no way to move and it tastes familiar, coats your skin in red. They all grow quiet and a wrapped form, in the shape of a body, is placed at the Sound Eaters' feet. It crumbles, breaks apart and sprays out over the wrapped figured to completely cover it.

The shards of the Sound Eater bubble up and fuse together, creating a shell. Rain begins to fall. Light, but enough to cause the Sound Eaters to begin to move, pushing against one another but not leaving the circle. There's a shrill sound, an offbeat whistle, air escaping a tight space, a desperate inhale, and then the shell at the center splits apart. A Sound Eater died to create a new life. Smaller than the other young, the 'child' climbs up and out, but it's not the same as the others. It's form is generally human. Dark hair, androgynous features. No eyes. No mouth. Standing, it angles its head towards the matured and they move, as if on command, and surround it as it walks into the tower.

( If anyone makes noise at this point, in any way, the coming bad weather and what just occurred, will result in the Sound Eaters only attacking that person - rather than the whole group. They'll drag that person into the tower and out of sight. The character will be reset. )

The natives are upset. Spooked. They've never seen anything like that and they're quick to tell everyone this, followed by a hasty message to leave. As they're moving, the rain begins to beat down and the ground grows slippery. Making it back to the supplies is troublesome and just as the group gets close, one of the natives slips and tumbles down broken concrete, twisting and smacking against the hard surface until they come to a stop at the bottom. Anyone that goes to help will find that the native has hurt themselves and there's nothing that can be done, despite best efforts. The natives will take the time to wrap their friend up, relaying that the Sound Eaters don't attack now that the rain is heavy, and will begin the slow trek back to the community. They'll camp each night, the same as the trip up, but with an uncomfortable tension that no amount of story telling can break.

It's Raining Me- Rain. It's Just Water.
Content Warnings: None
Themes: Survival, fun, noise-making

After everyone is back in Reims, the natives will split off to bury their dead - they will not allow anyone to accompany them. Everyone is encouraged to head back to the community to get a break from the bad weather and to unload their supplies. The following day, the natives can be heard outside. Splashing and making noise, fixing houses, and what might have been a somber event will quickly turn into something a little more upbeat as rain beats down on the city. Children will play and occasionally laugh, stunted in their ability to enjoy themselves but willing to learn from the arrivals. Bigger items will be moved and natives will encourage everyone to do the 'noisier' things that they need to do. When the rain ends, work will resume as usual and soundproofing will be a lot more difficult - the water washed away sandpaths and damaged some areas. Cleaning up will take time but the natives aren't as unhappy with the situation as they just had a moment's respite from the normal tension of their everyday lives.

dryeyes: at my roomate (for every ^)

[It saw that, so... does it have eyes? Sensory organs? What's making it fly. (Magic is something completely illogical. Maybe some sort of quirk or telekinetic manipulation.)]

[They idle at the rooftop. He steps off since he doesn't really want to idle and leave his weight on something sentient. Sapient, also? It just seemed tasteless.]

[He doesn't say "thanks" because he didn't need to be rescued.]

[There's a quick gesture, Japanese sign language, but it does dawn on him that it's stupid to assume a carpet is going to know one particular type of sign. He switches to the simpler one the locals use, although he's not as fluid in the movements.]

["How?"]
gimmesometassel: (Excited)

[personal profile] gimmesometassel 2018-02-04 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
[There's some sort of gesture, one Carpet isn't familiar with--maybe some sort of language other than the ones the locals use? Once he tries again, though, Carpet recognizes the word. He rises off the ground and does a showy little loop-dep-loop, spreading his tassels wide (ta-da~!) before signing back a single word in return.]

Magic!
dryeyes: [<user name="dryeye">] ("forgive me father for i have sinned")

[personal profile] dryeyes 2018-02-04 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
[... well, the carpet definitely just signed at him using tassels.]

[And yet, instinctively, he stills signs a response: "Not real."]

[It was stupid to not believe something right in front of his eyes but... magic, like ghosts, was an entirely illogical answer. It had to be something else, something more believable or explainable.]
gimmesometassel: (Default)

[personal profile] gimmesometassel 2018-02-04 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
[It's not perfect signing by any means--tassels aren't structured the same way hands are, and he's definitely still learning--, but it's understandable nonetheless. Signing aside though, Carpet just bobs his tassels up and down in what's obviously a shrug. If he doesn't want to believe that it's magic, then Carpet is afraid he doesn't know what else to tell him.

If he doesn't want to accept magic, maybe he'd prefer the topic of why he nearly broke his neck in free fall?]

Why were you falling from so tall?

[High, he means high, but he forgets the sign for that right now. Close enough!]
dryeyes: until i wake up (i don't care if it's 1AM)

[personal profile] dryeyes 2018-02-04 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's close enough, he gets the meaning.]

["Not falling, not an accident." He was entirely intentionally launching himself into the air! It's never been hard for him to explain what or why he was doing something like that before. People didn't question pro heroes. Here, most people's reactions were figuring it was like something out of a comic and- well, at least the sentient carpet probably didn't know any comic books.]

["Practice."]

[It was simpler to say that then try to describe how moving like this, working his body, made him feel more normal. More at home.]
gimmesometassel: (Questioning)

[personal profile] gimmesometassel 2018-02-04 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Carpet has no idea what comics are, though Mike has told him what a superhero is. Things like that just..... don't exist in Agrabah, so he has no frame of reference--but even so, he might be able to understand the real explanation behind it, if he heard it. He feels most at home in the sky too, with the wind rushing past and the ground little more than a distant blur, doing exactly what he was made for.

Instead, the simpler explanation just invites more questions and curiosity. "What are you practicing for?"]
dryeyes: chances are im very confused (if youre attractive)

[personal profile] dryeyes 2018-02-05 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
[He's honestly still learning the native's sign language. It gets the point across, at least, even if it's not eloquent.]

["My job back home." "I need to move freely." "Building to building."]

[So, in other words, he was launching himself into the air in order to make a landing somewhere else. It's at least an explanation, even if it's still grievously unsafe with the lack of proper footwear and every surface being wet.]
gimmesometassel: (Me?)

[personal profile] gimmesometassel 2018-02-07 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
[Carpet nods thoughtfully, scratching his head at that. He guesses that makes sense..... but it still doesn't make him worry any less. Can't he practice when it's not raining out, or is it just too noisy to? "But it's dangerous when it's wet. What is your job?"]
dryeyes: like a fucking coma (believe me)

[personal profile] dryeyes 2018-02-08 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[He instinctively makes the JSL sign for "Hero" while realizing... there were too many factor of miscommunication there. He switches back to the local's sign:]

["Save people, capture criminals."]

[Which... again, it's nowhere near a full definition but he's doing the best he can. It's not like you ever had to describe a hero's job to anyone back home, not when it was probably the most admired career. Sure, you had to explain that it wasn't all cameras and winning, but people got the gist.]

["And I teach." Although that job made far less sense for jumping around buildings.]
gimmesometassel: (Questioning)

[personal profile] gimmesometassel 2018-02-13 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Another sign he doesn't know..... probably a word that Aizawa is trying to explain now. He jumps around on buildings to save people, catch criminals, and teach? Do the criminals fly?] He has no idea why anyone would need to jump around to teach.....

He can grasp the bare bones of being a hero from this, at least--even if it's just the surface appearance of it, rather than the heart of the job. Still..... "What if you slip?"
dryeyes: smad (word that's a mix between angry and sad)

[personal profile] dryeyes 2018-02-14 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[A hero's job had a lot of different tasks in it, that all depended on what type of hero one was, or where they worked, too many variables. He's looking at the other for some sign of understanding or lack thereof but]

[... as expressive as a carpet could be, he's not getting anything. The question is at least more easily addressed. He motions to his side, where he's attached a reasonable length of rope in a loop. It's heavier than his capture weapon but he could still probably latch it on to something in a pinch.]

["If I slip and can't catch myself, that's my fault." In other words, he'd just fall.]
gimmesometassel: (Dejected)

[personal profile] gimmesometassel 2018-02-19 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Droooooooop. Look at how sad you're making him, you heartless monster that thought makes him, Aizawa. He doesn't want you to get hurt on accident, whether it's your fault or not!]
dryeyes: in my cats engine (cat mechanic : i’m actually called a vet)

[personal profile] dryeyes 2018-02-20 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
[They've just met! Why should it matter. It takes him aback a little, surprised at the show of- carpet emotion. How is he supposed to deal with this.]

[......................]

["Fine, fine." he signs, a little awkward,]

["I'll stop for today. Satisfied?"]
gimmesometassel: (Shy)

[personal profile] gimmesometassel 2018-02-23 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's a bleeding heart even without having a heart, Aizawa. Even if you're a near stranger, he cares about your safety! Which is why he seems a little relieved--or at least straightening up far enough so that his signing is at an easier level to read. "At least until it's not so slippery or you get some good shoes."

Seriously, running around barefoot in this kind of rain is just begging to fall. Can't the natives give him something for safety?]
dryeyes: and 'really cool' (when crows remember people)

[personal profile] dryeyes 2018-02-25 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
[The lack of proper shoes with proper grip was definitely a problem. That was also an avenue that he might be able to work with. As soon as the rain stopped, his acrobatics and the sound of landing might attract trouble. He had to do it in the rain. So, if a good pair of shoes would let him do so without a fretting carpet...]

["I'll find shoes."]

[There were a ton of old, empty buildings with boxes full of things they no longer used, noisy things, and he could use a good pair of boots anyways.]
gimmesometassel: (Has a Point)

[personal profile] gimmesometassel 2018-02-26 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Carpet visibly perks up again at that; trying to do something about the problem is much better than fretting uselessly! He doesn't want to keep Aizawa from practicing for his job, after all--just from hurting himself. "I can help look!"]
dryeyes: at what price (i am awake)

[personal profile] dryeyes 2018-02-26 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods, a small agreement of "sure." If the carpet was so concerned about his well-being, he'd accept the help.]

["Contact me if you find anything."]

["If it's somewhere difficult we may have to wait for the next rain."]

[Because, well, as nice as the architecture was and as much as some people cared about it, he was willing to bust open a crate or break a window to get what he needed. Hopefully... it rained often. That would maybe be too convenient, though, the weather couldn't bend to his demands.]
gimmesometassel: (Has a Point)

Good place to wrap up, maybe?

[personal profile] gimmesometassel 2018-03-05 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Have a nod and a thumbs up, Aizawa; he'd be a little more hesitant to just break things, especially given how noisy that would be, but if it's obviously abandoned..... well, it's better that someone uses it, right?]
