MOD LOG #1

Packing Up
Content Warnings: General tension
Themes: Survival, exploration, heavy-lifting

At the end of the month, the natives send out a mass message informing everyone of the upcoming trip to 'meet' the Sound Eaters. Preparing for the trip is simple, though labor intensive, and begins with making certain that everyone packs food, water, clothes, gear, and a twenty-pound package of sand. When it's time for the journey to begin, those tasked with watching the sandpaths, will lead the party on the journey towards the Eiffel Tower. It's a slow trip, a careful one. Natives will take breaks every few hours and when the sun sets, help everyone to set up their bed rolls around a few lanterns. The natives will unveil the star mapping feature, with constellations named and general history attached, on the devices. They will encourage those to tell stories, get out food and water, and 'talk' amongst the group before everyone settles into sleep. Out, under the night sky, the silence is more noticeable - there are no crickets or frogs. This process will repeat for two days until the group reaches the end of their destination at midday.

Sound Eaters
Content Warnings: Disorientation, confusion, character and native death, Sound Eater birth and death, body horror
Themes: Survival, exploration, horror, death

On the third day, characters will finally reach the Eiffel Tower, where the Sound Eaters in this area of France have set up their 'home'. Stopping far enough out to allow for communication, the natives will gesture to the ruins of the structure that appears to be altered. Structures are built up and around the metal frame, closing off different sections with a dark material that glints an oily-green in the light. After explaining that the Sound Eaters are influenced by the weather, rain being an issue for them, they'll take everyone closer. Silence is key here. The natives are visibly wary, tense, and uncomfortable but they believe that showing the arrivals what they're so afraid of will inspire them to be more cautious.

Now, as close to the Sound Eaters as they dare to go (less than a half mile), the natives will have everyone crouch down behind various cars and debris. The devices will say only one word, watch. As the sun begins to set and clouds darken overhead, the tower will open up, the Sound Eaters spilling out. They are split up, as the natives refer to it, into classes - the young, the shifting and the matured. The young are extremely sensitive to sound, volatile and aggressive, humanesque in form with features in various state of change. The shifting are grotesque, splitting and reforming, changing from young to matured in a shift that is punctuated by pained screams and the breaking of bones, splitting of flesh. The matured are in control. They command and guide their kind into a circle, where they all bend down, kneeling as something different than the rest comes out of the tower to stand at the center. The wind catches, dusting up red ash from it and blowing the ash towards the group - there's no way to move and it tastes familiar, coats your skin in red. They all grow quiet and a wrapped form, in the shape of a body, is placed at the Sound Eaters' feet. It crumbles, breaks apart and sprays out over the wrapped figured to completely cover it.

The shards of the Sound Eater bubble up and fuse together, creating a shell. Rain begins to fall. Light, but enough to cause the Sound Eaters to begin to move, pushing against one another but not leaving the circle. There's a shrill sound, an offbeat whistle, air escaping a tight space, a desperate inhale, and then the shell at the center splits apart. A Sound Eater died to create a new life. Smaller than the other young, the 'child' climbs up and out, but it's not the same as the others. It's form is generally human. Dark hair, androgynous features. No eyes. No mouth. Standing, it angles its head towards the matured and they move, as if on command, and surround it as it walks into the tower.

( If anyone makes noise at this point, in any way, the coming bad weather and what just occurred, will result in the Sound Eaters only attacking that person - rather than the whole group. They'll drag that person into the tower and out of sight. The character will be reset. )

The natives are upset. Spooked. They've never seen anything like that and they're quick to tell everyone this, followed by a hasty message to leave. As they're moving, the rain begins to beat down and the ground grows slippery. Making it back to the supplies is troublesome and just as the group gets close, one of the natives slips and tumbles down broken concrete, twisting and smacking against the hard surface until they come to a stop at the bottom. Anyone that goes to help will find that the native has hurt themselves and there's nothing that can be done, despite best efforts. The natives will take the time to wrap their friend up, relaying that the Sound Eaters don't attack now that the rain is heavy, and will begin the slow trek back to the community. They'll camp each night, the same as the trip up, but with an uncomfortable tension that no amount of story telling can break.

It's Raining Me- Rain. It's Just Water.
Content Warnings: None
Themes: Survival, fun, noise-making

After everyone is back in Reims, the natives will split off to bury their dead - they will not allow anyone to accompany them. Everyone is encouraged to head back to the community to get a break from the bad weather and to unload their supplies. The following day, the natives can be heard outside. Splashing and making noise, fixing houses, and what might have been a somber event will quickly turn into something a little more upbeat as rain beats down on the city. Children will play and occasionally laugh, stunted in their ability to enjoy themselves but willing to learn from the arrivals. Bigger items will be moved and natives will encourage everyone to do the 'noisier' things that they need to do. When the rain ends, work will resume as usual and soundproofing will be a lot more difficult - the water washed away sandpaths and damaged some areas. Cleaning up will take time but the natives aren't as unhappy with the situation as they just had a moment's respite from the normal tension of their everyday lives.

Sure. Why not?

[ The fact of the matter was that he wasn't the kind of guy to get needlessly involved with people. It was too much effort and he really didn't go this extra mile for every single person, so in it's own way it said a lot about how he was treating this situation.

He doesn't seem amused anymore and his demeanor seems to have 'calmed' for the most part as he considered what Akechi had asked him. ]

Well... pretty normal, for the most part. Recently graduated from junior high, but unlike the rest of our classmates there? They didn't have to kill their teacher the night before it.

[ Oh. Yeah. Hold on a second. Maybe that could be construed the wrong way. Karma blinked a bit amidst his thoughts before shaking his head and looking downward briefly, only to look back up afterward. The look on his face says it's something of a bittersweet subject that he's bringing up now. ]

He wasn't really human and it was either the government killing him or us, his students. It was much better with us having done it.

[Ah... he was right. There is more to this boy than meets the eye. It seems he has something of a knack for picking up those types...

... and really, just that thought alone has him stalling a bit, wondering if he should withdraw from this conversation. That first relationship wasn't exactly what he would call desirable, after all, and he hardly wants to go through all that heartache a second time...

But a different world, different circumstances. A second chance. Maybe this won't go so terribly...

Either way, no alarm shows on Akechi's face at what he's told. He's curious more than he is surprised or horrified. He quietly observes Karma, putting his full attention on his body language as well as his words and his choice of them.

If he's deducting this correctly...]

Seems that we both lost something prior to coming here.

[Perhaps he should have put "something valuable", but no, that would imply there was any value to his life. He isn't that naive.

He's yet again struck by the ease in which Karma talks about these things. Offering that he had to kill his teacher. He's remarkably straightforward without seeming cocky or misguided, despite his words.

Then perhaps Akechi can be straightforward in return.]

Was it a betrayal?

[ The sheer fact that Akechi doesn't have some ridiculously shocked expression on his face in any way after what he's told him is rather fascinating. He knew there was always something different about the other boy and this sort of proves it, which was why it made it incredibly easy for him to nod with a rather subdued look on his face.

Not everything happened to be 'amusing' to him, after all. This was quite the subject at hand here and he wouldn't sugarcoat it. The word 'betrayal' catches his attention and gives him pause for a moment or two. ]

You could say that, yeah. More on the government's part than ours or our teacher's, though. They insisted they were going to stay out of it and let us handle it, then turned around and enacted a plan of their own.

[ A notable thing was that a touch of anger showed on his face then. Not annoyance, but genuine anger at the memory of what he'd brought up. ]

It was left to us to find our own way to get to our teacher and finish the job before they could. Kind of entertaining that a bunch of teenagers were able to take out military-grade mercenaries in the process, but then again we knew the terrain better than them so we had the upper hand.

[ Something should clue Akechi into the fact that he's not 'saying' these things flippantly but rather that it's a completely honest fact he's stating here. ]

[A corrupt and deceitful government. It hits so close to home Akechi can't help but give a wry smile. As always, adults are such rubbish, throwing their weight around, heedless of who suffers as a result of their carelessness. In the end, they truly only care about one thing: themselves.

Disgusting.

... but how curious it is that there was no betrayal on part of the students or teacher. That meant the assassination was... consensual, on both ends. It was known, even. How strange. There didn't seem to be a resentment towards the teacher... If anything, there was a strange sort of protectiveness and fondness...]

Adults do have a way of underestimating those younger than them. Such is their pride.

[It's obvious he's dealt with it, too. Within his job, even despite his title as the "Charismatic Detective", there were quite a few co-workers and superiors who looked down on him merely for his age. If anything, he was a source of shame to them.

Realization suddenly dawns on him.]

You mentioned before that if a certain person weren't the kind to help that you would not be here today. Was that your teacher?

[ Like before, it was incredibly refreshing to see someone taking things at their face value and that was rather endearing on it's own. By the sounds of it, the other was responding back using what he supposed were personal experiences since he understood the corrupt nature of adults rather well. ]

Unfortunately, yeah. Pride tends to be their downfall in that respect as well. Few actually tend to take matters seriously when in regard to those younger than themselves, but it's nice when it does happen and they can see you as an equal.

[ Such as the assassin during the hotel trip they had during the summer when Grip wasn't playing around, or treating him differently because he was a 'kid'. He came at him with the intent to kill and hadn't held back in the slightest.

Reading over that last message, a smile soon formed on his features with ease and he nodded. While his 'usual' amusement showed through once more, it was brief all on it's own before a sort of thoughtfulness replaced it. ]

Yeah. My teacher didn't betray or disappoint me like the others had before him. He acted quickly and with kindness, which saved me in more than just one way.

Agreed.

[Sae comes to mind, and he finds that... he misses her. She had a strong, straight-forward sort of attitude that most men found unbecoming, but it was what had drawn him to her from the start. That level of honesty that he could never replicate. She had, upon their meeting, perhaps seemed briefly surprised at his age, but never did she once act as though it made him lesser. She always treated him as an absolute equal.

He blinks, suddenly realizing that he had gotten lost in thought, and lets his gaze refocus on the message typed up for him.

There's something of a pang in his heart. He was not fortunate enough to be saved. By the time people tried, it was already far too late. Or perhaps... it was never an option for him in the first place. But that line of thinking... hurts... so he redirects his attention to Karma.]

He sounds like a remarkable person. Perhaps the room will revive him, in the same way that it did me.

[And then he pauses for a moment. For such a person to be a danger, though they weren't malevolent— it had to be something intrinsic to them that was dangerous that was out of their control, right...?]

Should we hope that it doesn't?

[ Seeing Akechi get lost in thought was enough to tell him he must have brought up the memory of someone who must have fit the description of the type of adult he'd mentioned. At least that was his mindset, anyway. It was a brief and fleeting thought that didn't remain long as he read the other's message, a soft, wordless sigh escaping him afterward. ]

He was. [ A pause lingered before he added something onto it. ] I admit that would be nice if it did. Wouldn't mind seeing him again, if i'm honest.

[ Karma shook his head and averted his gaze for a few moments, debating on something for a bit before smiling softly. Yeah. If he was gonna say it, he should do so now. ]

I'm glad the room revived you and brought you here, for what it's worth. You seem like the kind of person i'd be glad to fight side by side with.

lowkeycrazy: (really?)

[personal profile] lowkeycrazy 2018-02-28 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Hm... perhaps he misjudged? Either way, a kind person like that... Naturally, Akechi would wish to meet him, as well. It's something he objectively doesn't deserve, he knows that, and yet he cannot help but be drawn towards those people. People who don't judge and don't mind...

His mind drifts... to Kurusu. He quickly diverts his attention back to Karma again.

Only to be faced with that message. He visibly starts.

What?

He's... glad? But... why. He's... hostile and moody and prickly...

For a moment he's just blatantly staring at Karma... before he realizes what he's doing and his gaze snaps down to his device. He should probably... respond?]

You assume I'm the fighting type. [sorry he's still trying to comprehend what karma has found like-able about him]
