INTRO LOG #2

INTRO LOG #2
Put a Sock in It
Content Warnings: Disorientation, memory loss, confusion
Themes: Arrival, survival, exploration, horror
You wake, standing. A thick, muddy red dust coats your skin and clothes - it sticks to your tongue and blocks your vision. Inhale and it chokes you, exhale and your breath puffs out in front of your face in a transparent maroon cloud. It tastes of copper, tangy and harsh. Movement is difficult, every limb tingles and aches. Look to your left, your right. Evenly spaced in each direction stands another person indistinguishable in every way from the next. You're disoriented and lethargic, unable to grasp onto a single thought. A pinprick of light blooms ahead and grows steadily larger; a door has opened.
Hands grip your wrists, push at the small of your back and guide you out of the darkness into a room with four walls and a thin, sagging ceiling. The plaster is peeling, the air is musty, and the floor is slick. White plastic piping juts up from the center and curves into multiple spouts, clean water flowing in uneven streams. Those hands pull your clothes off and clear the dust from your body, redress you in handsewn jumpsuits. By the time they’re through, you will have begun to come back to yourself.
A finger is pressed to your lips. Kind eyes meet your own and a single word is whispered - hush.
Led out of the room in a line, you’re taken down a short hallway and into another, much larger room. There’s a woman waiting for you there, a child hugging her leg, and a cloth bag in her hands. She reaches in and pulls out a device, passes one to each of you. Once finished, she begins to move both hands in graceful gestures, a language. One of the people who helped you lifts their device and the screen lights up, tracks the woman’s hands. Letters appear on the screen and you understand the device’s purpose. She tells you what she knows and it’s not much.
This world is haunted. Noise attracts them, so it is not allowed. Communication is through body language, soundless writing, and the device. She tells you that your feet must be light and your mouth never used. There is a community outside these doors, where you can survive together, but only if you agree to one thing: complete and total silence. You'll have time to talk it over. You may ask one question and receive one answer.
Acceptance allows you to journey outside. The ground is marked in pathways of sand, lining the paths to each building and everywhere in-between. You notice that the locals hold their devices always, aloft and glance to it often. It will not vibrate or make a sound to signal a message. Notices appear. Rules. Guidelines. Feet on the sand and never anywhere else. To open a door you brush your fingers along the hinges - oiled and you may enter. If not, take the brush from the can sitting nearby and coat the metal with the dark liquid.
Now, you're to settle into your new home – with or without the help of those who have come before you.
The Place Inside
Content Warnings: Disorientation, hallucinations, body horror
Themes: Plot, exploration
Have you been to hell. And more importantly, have you been back. We all know this pain but are too scared to recall. This horror controls us, pulls at our strings to ensure how our life plays out. So, let me rephrase my question: have you been to Ile Lacrox. And more importantly, can you come back.
In the community, if you hear something you're not supposed to hear, you learn to look the other way. If you see something you're not supposed to see, you pretend it never happened. If you feel disappointed, you learn to never ask for more. So, through good times and bad, famine and feast, the natives held fast to their rules until one common day a sly wind blew in from the south...
That same red dust twists through the streets, curling up in faint, little plumes of familiarity. The farther south you go, the thicker it becomes. Those willing to explore far enough will find it coming from an island in the middle of the river. Once there, doting every available surface is the evidence of Sound Eater births, and the closer you are to the island, the harder it is to avoid being coated in red. Even if it's not rubbed into the skin, it doesn't take long for the effects to take over. Every sound is amplified. Your breaths are deafening, the slightest step echoes. But no Sound Eater attacks. Your vision blurs, and it's as if your mouth is sealing itself shut. Those you traveled with seem to be similarly affected, and you know you have to be quiet. Anyone who brought supplies with them might discover that a drink of water subdues the symptoms.
OOC: Only characters who entirely submerge themselves in water will be free of the dust effects. Just remember that noise will attract Sound Eaters.
Liplocked
Content Warnings: Violent tendencies, mind alteration
Themes: Love, romance, obsession, sex
The natives are of French origin, and with that comes a love of romance. Residents will find treats and valentines at their doors. That same night, there will be a small, red-glowing fire built near the fountain. There will be jars pressed into the dirt and filled with a sweet, red liquid. Some natives can be seen drinking it and being very affectionate with one another. Anyone who drinks this is inspired to show endearment or lust to others, and it will wear off after sleeping.
There's also the noticeable addition of a new arrival. They came through the Reset Room just like everybody else. They understand the rules and follow them to a tee. They are the perfect example of what the natives want in their residents. They are charming and captivating. They say nothing, and they don't have to. When your eyes meet, you feel seduced. There's a nervous flutter in your stomach. You can feel your heartbeat in your throat. Pounding, constricting. They smile and then turn away.
As they're walking, you notice you're not the only one looking at them, and in their expression, you see your own mirrored. What started as sweet infatuation and longing dissolves into a jealousy unlike any you've ever known. All you understand now is that to win their affections you have to come out on top—so you're the only one they see. Your actions are not your own, but they're still yours.
OOC: There are two ways to break the "spell". Your character fights it out with someone else who is feeling the same way OR they're approached and physically touched by someone who isn't affected by the newcomer. A third of the community will be completely unaffected (everyone else is affected unless the player is uncomfortable with playing out the scenarios). The newcomer can be of any gender the player wishes. For those partaking in drinking, the players can choose what effects it has; it can inspire feelings of lust or boost paternal/maternal instincts or devotion towards friends.

part 2 did you need a heeeerrrroooooooooo
the boy is coated, and it's a horrifying sight when Kara stumbles upon him. she grasps his arm, holds him up, and without any preamble, she flies him up into the air, into the clouds. the air's thinner but it's damp, and she has no idea if this helps or why it helps, but he's scaring her to death. she busies herself with trying to wipe damp hands over his face, to get some of the dust off. ]
(ooc: if you need/want me to change this, let me know!!!!)
i...i love supergirl i am so pleased.
But he's not- he isn't killed. As they push up through the clouds, between Kara's wiping his face down, the vapors in the clouds, and Eddie's own fat tears, he can see through to a woman who was just young enough to not instantly startle him. That and Eddie did have some grand idea of Heroes in his mind, and there was no way else that this could be anything but that. He gives a small, shuddering wheeze, but it's a hell of a lot better than the suffocating he had been doing just down before he had started to lose some of that red.)
Can't-. (He tries to say, another gasp interrupting.) - Mouth? (Which sounded...outrageous in sequence, truthfully, but he was surprised that- oh. Yes. He still had his mouth.
At least he's not struggling. As a matter of fact, now that he's a tiny bit more aware, he clings to Kara readily, his body shaking for a whole other reason. Kid's horrified.)
HELL yeah do you really
[ Kara's struck with fresh anger again. she has no idea how the reset room works, but why are there children coming through it? This place is terrifying - for her, for the rest of them, grown adults able to process all of this better than a child. but this poor kid, gasping and shaking.
When he's gasping and breathing marginally better, his face mostly clear, and Kara, too, feeling more clear-headed away from the dust, she flies them back to the town, to the fountain. it doesn't work, but there's fresh rain water gathered in it from the recent storm. Something about water, about getting the dust off is helping, she thinks, but there's no quiet way to just dunk themselves in it.
her hands are shaking, out of anger instead of fear, as she types on her device, but she sets the kid down on the lip of the fountain and manages to type out-]
You're okay. Try to breathe. I think the water will help but BE QUIET.
[ Kara watches the natives, the arrivals. there's so many people out and about right now. she doesn't want to bring down the Sound Eaters on their heads. ]
YEAH she's literally one of my favorite super heroes ever ;o;
(It's very easy to be caught up in the fear to forget to be quiet- especially for someone like Eddie. He was both young and was inclined to be more vocal than most. Thankfully, his wheezing and fears makes the words strangled and quiet.
He's rubbing his eyes with curled fists, sniffing again as he tries to struggle through a breath. He lowers his hands, eyes red from the dust and his tears, but he reads her text just fine. He gives a quick, shaky nod. He pauses for a moment, and then raises a curled fist and rubs it in a quick circle against his chest: apologizing.
Eddie forgets that he's not sick, forgets to be brave for even a split second. His hand is getting his inhaler out, but he doesn't bring it to his mouth just yet. It does make a noise, after all, but he'd need it sooner than later.
In the mean time, he turns around and bends over the fountain. He tries to work as quietly as he can, scooping water up and rubbing his face hurriedly. There's a few soft drips, but mostly the water winds up on him. The dust streaks red, and it's not perfect, he's still disoriented, but it's a hell of a lot better. The hallucinations were edging away and he reached his hands up, touching his mouth.
Eddie stares over at nearby natives, and then up at her, still wheezing softly. He gets out his own device and types her a quick message:)
I need to use my inhaler.
(And it wasn't silent. It wasn't loud either, but his wheezing wasn't going away any time soon either. And that combination was starting to make him panic. Again.)
do you watch the show?? I'm SO excited
She nods at his message, biting her lip. ]
Hop on my back. I'll fly you to my house. I have a basement. That should hide the sound of your inhaler.
[ be brave, kid. once they're out of the danger zone, Kara can try to fill you in. ]
YES!! I don't have cable but every time it updates on Netflix I binge the entire season.
He hoists himself up, wrapping his arms carefully around her shoulders, and legs up snug around her waist. He presses close, half afraid of flying again, and half a little excited to fly again- this time with a little more awareness.)
then I cannot WAIT for you to watch s3!!! also The CW puts up whole eps on their site!
she kneels so he can climb down and then turns, offering him a tight but hopefully reassuring smile, a finger over her lips, just in case. ]
You should be good now. Don't worry.
I've seen gifsets and been DYING....DO THEY REALLY.....well i know what im doing this weekend
If her house was behind twelve, that meant it was right near his own, eleven, and he glances at it as they pass.
He'd of gotten down, but she seemed fine with carrying him all the way to the basement. Once she's kneeling, he gingerly lets go and steps away. He gives a slightly shaky smile back, and nods at her finger over her lips.
Eddie gives his inhaler a few shakes before taking a plunge of it. His shoulders go up as he sucks the 'medicine' in and he can feel it instantly relaxing him. He holds his breath after until he can't no longer and then he's letting out a long, soft breath.)
Thank you. I'm sorry for making you carry me all the way out here and- in general. Are you a super hero?
(Listen, he's gotta know. This kid's read comics most of his life so as that fear starts to fade, a look of awe gradually begins to grow on him.)
THEY DO. I think they rotate out the last 5-6 BUT I CAN HELP A BRO OUT. IJS
there's nothing. thank, Rao, there's nothing. she lets out a relieved sigh, smiling more easily at Eddie, and sits on the ground. she hasn't done anything to her basement, aside from the cushions under the stairs. she wants to practice sparring here. Frank's... fight club thing seems way too out in the open, makes her nervous, but she could turn this space into something special. And, more importantly, something quiet. one day, maybe.
she waves at the ground next to her, invites Eddie to sit, then types out an answer. ]
Yes. My name's Supergirl. What's yours?
sob that is so good to know i will check it out. YOU'RE THE REAL HERO HERE.
THAT IS SO COOL!! I love super heroes. I've met a few before. I like your outfit. Red's my favorite color.
(Which is barely important but hey. It means he appreciates that cape, okay.)
I'm Eddie. Is that red dust stuff...normal?
no subject
LOL. Well, I'm glad you like it. Who have you met?
As for the dust... I don't know. Dust seems to equal Sound Eaters, but it's also in the reset room. We don't know much about it yet. [ she doesn't want to scare the kid, so she doesn't tell him that it's never been that bad before, never caused them to see things not there, to feel like they're choking, dying. no, that's new. ]
no subject
What's 'LOL' mean?
(The question gives him pause as he tries to recollect himself.)
Not too many people. Mostly kids my own age. Two of my friends from my home are here. There's a centaur in my house. Literally. And you, obviously, and this guy with an eye patch and a ponytail?
(As if she could actually not know what an eye patch was, he lifts his hand to cover his eye in demonstration.)
Oh I didn't even think about that.
(He wonders if there was a connection somehow. There had to be, right?)
This place needs a giant vacuum I guess. (Enjoy his dumb 12-year-old humor, Kara. He delivers it with a flat face too.)
no subject
she reads the rest, nodding along. she doesn't know if she'd consider an eyepatch and a centaur to be superheroes, but hey, she shouldn't judge.
she gives the vacuum idea a thumbs up. ]
Sounds like a great idea! haha
no subject
Eddie had totally misinterpreted that question, figuring it was a good deal more general, but he's not too good at going off purely of texts.)
Probably would be too loud though. (He stares for a moment at her, and then after a second:) LOL
(Which makes him very quietly snort. That was silly.)
Have you been here for a long time?
no subject
Not too long. About a month.
[ she stands then, offering Eddie a helping hand up. ]
Have you found your house yet?
no subject
Yeah. I'm really close to you, actually. I'm in house 11.
(He points in the exact right direction of where his house was about.)
I'm there with my other friends and some kids. Do you live in this house alone?
no subject
[ Kara leads the way out of her basement and out through her mostly-empty house to the porch, house 11 in sight. ]
I have plans, though. I mean, for some guest rooms to have friends over, maybe some movie nights if I can figure out these solar panels.
no subject
There.
(His head snaps around at the mention of a movie night.)
There's MOVIES here? What kind of movies?
no subject
Have you picked out a room yet?
no subject
(He- forgets to watch his mouth. Whoops.)
Yeah. I got the master room. I'm trying to stock the bathroom with medical stuff. I'm learning to be a medic! Or. Trying to anyway.
no subject
Oh! That's really awesome! There's a woman I met earlier. Her name is Claire. She's a nurse where she comes from. I'm sure she could show you the ropes. ;)
[ she winks, and he's a kid, so she's mostly entertaining him. but she does hope Claire and any other medically-inclined people can get something started. With Kilgrave, the Sound Eaters, natives falling to their deaths, and Frank's stupid fight club... they're going to need something. ]
If you go exploring, don't go alone. Make sure you stay safe. If you need help, you can find me on these things and just ask.
no subject
Did she seem nice? Or I guess do you think she'd be willing to teach a kid?
(Which seemed silly to ask, but Eddie had known nice adults who didn't want kids getting involved with anything serious. Which Eddie had never personally understood since they would have to get involved with serious stuff eventually.)
I'll try not to. My friends and I are usually together but sometimes I wander off. If you ever need to be patched up, I can probably help you so you can reach me too.
(Eddie smiles at this, hoping maybe that he could offer some sort of help back.)
Sorry again for making you fly all over. Which- by the way- that was kind of awesome. I've never flown before.
no subject
And thank you. :) Anytime you want another fly around, I don't mind! Flying is the BEST. I love sharing that with people!
