INTRO LOG #2

INTRO LOG #2
Put a Sock in It
Content Warnings: Disorientation, memory loss, confusion
Themes: Arrival, survival, exploration, horror
You wake, standing. A thick, muddy red dust coats your skin and clothes - it sticks to your tongue and blocks your vision. Inhale and it chokes you, exhale and your breath puffs out in front of your face in a transparent maroon cloud. It tastes of copper, tangy and harsh. Movement is difficult, every limb tingles and aches. Look to your left, your right. Evenly spaced in each direction stands another person indistinguishable in every way from the next. You're disoriented and lethargic, unable to grasp onto a single thought. A pinprick of light blooms ahead and grows steadily larger; a door has opened.
Hands grip your wrists, push at the small of your back and guide you out of the darkness into a room with four walls and a thin, sagging ceiling. The plaster is peeling, the air is musty, and the floor is slick. White plastic piping juts up from the center and curves into multiple spouts, clean water flowing in uneven streams. Those hands pull your clothes off and clear the dust from your body, redress you in handsewn jumpsuits. By the time they’re through, you will have begun to come back to yourself.
A finger is pressed to your lips. Kind eyes meet your own and a single word is whispered - hush.
Led out of the room in a line, you’re taken down a short hallway and into another, much larger room. There’s a woman waiting for you there, a child hugging her leg, and a cloth bag in her hands. She reaches in and pulls out a device, passes one to each of you. Once finished, she begins to move both hands in graceful gestures, a language. One of the people who helped you lifts their device and the screen lights up, tracks the woman’s hands. Letters appear on the screen and you understand the device’s purpose. She tells you what she knows and it’s not much.
This world is haunted. Noise attracts them, so it is not allowed. Communication is through body language, soundless writing, and the device. She tells you that your feet must be light and your mouth never used. There is a community outside these doors, where you can survive together, but only if you agree to one thing: complete and total silence. You'll have time to talk it over. You may ask one question and receive one answer.
Acceptance allows you to journey outside. The ground is marked in pathways of sand, lining the paths to each building and everywhere in-between. You notice that the locals hold their devices always, aloft and glance to it often. It will not vibrate or make a sound to signal a message. Notices appear. Rules. Guidelines. Feet on the sand and never anywhere else. To open a door you brush your fingers along the hinges - oiled and you may enter. If not, take the brush from the can sitting nearby and coat the metal with the dark liquid.
Now, you're to settle into your new home – with or without the help of those who have come before you.
The Place Inside
Content Warnings: Disorientation, hallucinations, body horror
Themes: Plot, exploration
Have you been to hell. And more importantly, have you been back. We all know this pain but are too scared to recall. This horror controls us, pulls at our strings to ensure how our life plays out. So, let me rephrase my question: have you been to Ile Lacrox. And more importantly, can you come back.
In the community, if you hear something you're not supposed to hear, you learn to look the other way. If you see something you're not supposed to see, you pretend it never happened. If you feel disappointed, you learn to never ask for more. So, through good times and bad, famine and feast, the natives held fast to their rules until one common day a sly wind blew in from the south...
That same red dust twists through the streets, curling up in faint, little plumes of familiarity. The farther south you go, the thicker it becomes. Those willing to explore far enough will find it coming from an island in the middle of the river. Once there, doting every available surface is the evidence of Sound Eater births, and the closer you are to the island, the harder it is to avoid being coated in red. Even if it's not rubbed into the skin, it doesn't take long for the effects to take over. Every sound is amplified. Your breaths are deafening, the slightest step echoes. But no Sound Eater attacks. Your vision blurs, and it's as if your mouth is sealing itself shut. Those you traveled with seem to be similarly affected, and you know you have to be quiet. Anyone who brought supplies with them might discover that a drink of water subdues the symptoms.
OOC: Only characters who entirely submerge themselves in water will be free of the dust effects. Just remember that noise will attract Sound Eaters.
Liplocked
Content Warnings: Violent tendencies, mind alteration
Themes: Love, romance, obsession, sex
The natives are of French origin, and with that comes a love of romance. Residents will find treats and valentines at their doors. That same night, there will be a small, red-glowing fire built near the fountain. There will be jars pressed into the dirt and filled with a sweet, red liquid. Some natives can be seen drinking it and being very affectionate with one another. Anyone who drinks this is inspired to show endearment or lust to others, and it will wear off after sleeping.
There's also the noticeable addition of a new arrival. They came through the Reset Room just like everybody else. They understand the rules and follow them to a tee. They are the perfect example of what the natives want in their residents. They are charming and captivating. They say nothing, and they don't have to. When your eyes meet, you feel seduced. There's a nervous flutter in your stomach. You can feel your heartbeat in your throat. Pounding, constricting. They smile and then turn away.
As they're walking, you notice you're not the only one looking at them, and in their expression, you see your own mirrored. What started as sweet infatuation and longing dissolves into a jealousy unlike any you've ever known. All you understand now is that to win their affections you have to come out on top—so you're the only one they see. Your actions are not your own, but they're still yours.
OOC: There are two ways to break the "spell". Your character fights it out with someone else who is feeling the same way OR they're approached and physically touched by someone who isn't affected by the newcomer. A third of the community will be completely unaffected (everyone else is affected unless the player is uncomfortable with playing out the scenarios). The newcomer can be of any gender the player wishes. For those partaking in drinking, the players can choose what effects it has; it can inspire feelings of lust or boost paternal/maternal instincts or devotion towards friends.

You had a job where you could travel to different WORLDS?! Maaaan i'm so jealous! Wish i could do that. Not that I didn't like what I was doing before, but still.
[ He gives a little huff, shrugging his shoulders before listening to Sora's explanation with a little nod of his head. ] Makes sense to me. I mean it all works as a name so why not?
[ So totally chill about all that. Though he is making a bit of a face at the explanation of sign language, but only for a brief moment. It makes sense in the long run but still is just kind of weird to him. ]
Probably. I would too but I have no idea how it even works.
[ He tries fruitlessly to imitate one of the gestures with a determined expression on his face before dropping his arm once more. Ugh. This totally sucks. Well... mostly the fact they took his sword away and his uniform but hey. He's meeting new people so that's a plus? ]
Haha same. [ A nod of his head and then Yuu flashed Sora a grin. ] Still! I appreciate it all the same. Though it's uh... kinda nice seeing people around, actually.

Yeah, I've been to about thirty by now... though I've at least seen forty-two even if twelve of those were just replicas. [Maybe someday he'll tell people all about those worlds and what he did there.] What do you do back home?
[And now he's got someone else calling it by that name too. Oh well, at least one person will know what he means when he says it.] Might be confusing to everyone else.
[A small shrug.] Neither do I. Maybe I'll learn a few important words.
[Like "run" or "healer" or "quiet". Then at least he'll be able to communicate with the natives without having to dig his 'berry out when something happens.
Sora blinks for a minute, taking in what Yuu was saying.] Your world doesn't have a lot of people?
no subject
[ Can't blame him for being interested in this. He's lived in just one world and that's it. Never left his own - since being unable to - and knew of nothing else so it just means he's more excitable and eager to know more of what it was like for Sora. At least in terms of the worlds he's seen or been to. ]
Kill vampires, mostly. [ Blunt and straightforwards as ever. Nothing really changes with him. ] Gonna take the world back from them and in doing that, i'll be able to save my best friend, Mika. Promised him i'd make him human again at any cost.
[ Not going to say of anything much past that. Yet. Though he just simply shrugs at the mention of the 'name' of the device being confusing to other people. ] Doesn't bother me any.
[ Considering what the other had asked him a moment afterward, Yuu raised an eyebrow and gave him a bit of a look before remembering that since Sora came from a different world than what he had, he wouldn't exactly know. ]
Not really. A virus hit about eight years ago and because of it, most of humanity died off.
[ Enjoy knowing that little tidbit, Sora. ]
no subject
Sure, but how about I teach you how to use these 'berries first?
[Priorities, he has them. First he'll make sure that Yuu doesn't end up dead because he doesn't know how to use the communication devices.
At the blunt answer, Sora stares at the teen for a long minute.] Vampires. Got it. [No hint of disbelief in his tone.] I didn't know they were a big problem on some worlds.
[Sora has his own experience with vampires but doesn't bring that up now. Besides, it had been an accidental biting and temporary experiment with most of the vampires turning back into humans at the end of the week.
But he smiles at the mention of saving his best friend.] I'm sure you'll keep your promise.
[He can't say that Yuu should protect his own humanity just as much, not when he can remember a time when he gave his heart over to save Kairi. At the big of information he learns about the other's world, there's a moment of solemn silence.]
That's tough, I'm sorry.

[ Not that he really thought that much of it, but the him from when he'd first met Shinoa and Yoichi was leagues different from how he was now. Energetic and willing to talk to people; to make friends with others. Compared to the him who was solely focused on revenge and just trying to kill all the vampires, this was a much nicer change.
Though admittedly it was a nice thing, in having Sora believe him without thinking it wasn't a real thing he'd dealt with. He supposed it had something to do with Sora having been to many other worlds before or something like that. ]
Yup. Some of them are pretty strong. Me and my friends weren't able to take this one bastard out because of how strong he was, and if it wasn't for my quick healing I probably would have died.
[ Yuu let off a laugh at that, seeming as if it were nothing and even raising a hand to touch against the middle of his chest absently. Mika had been rather concerned in telling him the guy'd crushed his heart and he'd not died from that, not seeming bothered by it even now. ]
Of course I will! I'm not going to let him down. Not ever again.
[ A twinge of something in his tone hinted a bit at some darkness behind those words but he didn't elaborate on them. Not unless Sora asked about them. ]
What for? I'm kinda used to it. Besides. Gonna try to fix that problem once I go back home and do whatever I can to help.
[ You're looking at someone who's pretty much a self-sacrificial idiot here. Yup. ]

[People change, that is one fact Sora knows very well. And it can happen quickly too, sometimes influenced by the others around them or just from the events that happen.
Sora has learned about other worlds in the last few years, has seen some with his own eyes and knows that things like Heartless and Nobodies don't exist for them. Sometimes they don't have monsters at all and other times they have strange ones he's never heard of it. Besides, it doesn't feel like this is something Yuu would lie about.]
Well, hopefully he isn't here and you won't need healing. If you do, just call me and I'll come running. I've got magic that can help you heal faster.
[He doesn't miss the way Yuu's hand touches his chest and prevents himself from doing the same. If there's one thing he knows all too well, it's the pain of having his heart ripped out or blow up.]
I believe you, and I bet he does too.
[While Sora is always willing to listen to someone else's problems, he doesn't want to pry right off the bat. They may be friendly already but that doesn't mean Yuu trusts him with something that important.]
I'm sorry that your world isn't so great and for the fact that this one doesn't seem that much better. But I'm glad that you aren't giving up.
[The way Yuu speaks of saving his friend and his world reminds him of a younger version of himself. It also sparks a protective urge in him to keep Yuu safe in this world whenever possible.]

[ He's incredibly positive about this matter here, if the grin he's wearing is any indication. There's no shortage of that optimism for the most part, but it wasn't like he didn't have any skepticism about certain things in this place here. Though when hearing that Sora actually had healing magic, it took a couple seconds before the awe and mild disbelief showed on his face. ]
Whoah! Really?!
[ A nod of his head followed that and Yuu offered something of a genuine smile in turn. Mika could really seem a bit protective, but it wasn't a bad thing considering how reckless and headstrong he was. That and he also had his own fair share of wanting to do what he could to protect his family and would do just about anything. ]
Don't be sorry. It's okay. I'm kinda used to it, plus being able to kill vampires and stuff is WAY more fun than doing boring school stuff anyway so... yeah. [ In other words the world being so desolate and grim, along with being tossed into this one really didn't bug him at all. ] It'd take a lot to make me give up. I have too much to protect, and I won't stop until i know they'll be safe and won't be hurt.

[Look, that second part is very important. They may have to live in a silent world but that doesn't mean they have to rely solely on text. A little laugh.]
Yeah, really. Watch.
[Sora holds out his hand in Yuu's direction and it takes just a second for a green light to fall around the other teen. Though the healing spell may not do much if the other male isn't actually injured - not unless there are any under the jumpsuit.]
Can't argue that. I haven't been to school in almost six years now. [Their educations are totally lacking.] You'll get back there and make that happen. I promise.
no subject
[ He'd almost asked what texting and 'posting pictures' was, besides that it had to be something this device could do. Though in all actuality, he was more interested in the magic thing over anything else.
Which was why his eyes went wide with surprise as the weird green light fell around him, blinking as he realized that small headache that'd been hitting since he woke up here was completely gone now. The kind of magic they had back in his world was more of spellcraft and really old stuff that tied into demons, vampires and angels. So this was entirely different than he was honestly used to. ]
That's so cool! I didn't realize anyone could actually do that.
Six years? Never would have guessed. [ Yeah you're pretty cool in his books, Sora. He stops midway through running a hand through his hair when the other responded, causing him to look a bit sheepish for a moment or two. ] I was in school about... uh... maybe a year ago now but I didn't really pay much attention to stuff they were teaching back then.
[ A shrug followed that, but otherwise didn't seem too bothered by the idea. Even managing to grin and standing a bit more tall than he had been before. ]
Glad to see someone has faith in me! I'm sure you'll be able to achieve what you're working toward, too!
no subject
He doesn't know if that blinking is because Yuu's surprised or because he can feel some kind of actual difference. Or both. Either way he's sure that it won't be the last time he uses this spell on someone, definitely not.]
Yeah, one of my friends taught me how to use magic. He's an old wizard. [Haha, poor Merlin.]
Even if you aren't learning book stuff, sometimes there's a lot you could use. Practical stuff like making food or treating injuries without magic - stuff like that. And then there's the fun stuff like juggling or playing poker. [So even though he hasn't gone to learn math and science and all that, Sora still wants to learn.]
Thanks, I hope so. [Find his family, live somewhere together. That's all he wants.]
no subject
[ This just keeps getting better because wow these things keep happening and he's not really minding it one bit. Seeming more like an excitable child rather than someone who's a headstrong, reckless idiot with a stubborn streak. ]
Guess you got a point. I mean... Shinoa and Mitsuba tried to cook something once and had the pan on fire at one point before Kimizuki stepped in. Guy's a pretty good cook. [ Getting caught up in the memory, he realized he'd went off in his thoughts without clarifying things. ] They're pretty good friends of mine... even if we didn't get along at first.
[ An understatement from the guy who instigated fights with Kimizuki frequently at first until they saw more eye to eye. Either way he does feel happy bringing them up. ]
Uh... what's poker?
[ Please enlighten him. Really. He feels like he should know what that is, but he doesn't. Not one bit. ]
no subject
[He will gladly keep telling Yuu stories about his travels for as long as they're stuck here. Light knows he's got so many of them by now.
Even without the explanation, Sora can figure out who the people are.] Your friends sound pretty lively. I'd like to hear more about them sometime.
[Like the story of how they didn't get along.]
It's a card game you play for fun. One of my friends taught me how to play it. He used to cheat all of the time.
