featuring: Rey, Kara, Faith, Akira, and Poe
what's happening?: Some exploring of new places and scavenging useful things
day: An ambiguous time around the 25th
content warnings: nah. but will update if needed.
[Rey considers herself lucky to have people here that she calls friends. She's even more fortunate to have people who would agree to go with her on a mission to scavenge supplies from some of the parts of towns that the sand paths are just now stretching out to reach. It feels like she's going stir crazy being trapped here, despite spending her entire life on the same desert planet. She's used to sitting and waiting, but she can't bide her time as easily here as she thought she might. Exploring is one of the only things keeping her from being reckless.
Which means that of course she's fortunate that there's plenty here to explore. She and the others have made their way silently here, Rey keeping a close eye on everyone. It's because of her that they're even here in the first place, and she won't have a sound eater coming to take any of them. So as they move through what looks like it used to be someone's home, she makes a signal with both of her hands to let them know that they need to rifle through things quietly.
Her focus, as always, is on tech. Her house is quickly becoming a workshop, with bits and pieces of things she's found scattered all over. She's not greedy by any stretch of the imagination, but her curiosity about this world and the things found in it make her want to find all that she can to take it apart. She's been asked by a friend to grab some soundproofing materials, so those come second. And she knows that there are children in Reims who could stand more happiness, so she keeps her eye out for anything that looks like it might be of interest to them.
This house they're in is two stories, and there's other homes surrounding this one to look through as well. So as they start to look around she sends out a mass message.]
We need to take what we can but be sure we're still able to get back quietly. We can always return to get more.

Staying quiet was a test or challenge. He grew tense with each building that surrounded them. They had no idea what they would find. A sound eater could be lingering anywhere within them. Poe always wished to have a weapon on him but he knew running away may be the better idea. Would hiding away from the sound eaters even work?
He's exploring what could have been the library and study room. There could be something in here that they could use for parts. Poe isn't really sure what to look for beside for anything that was similar to an object his familiar with. Most things didn't really look familiar. He slowly goes to the desk. Poe looks at the text before he begins his work on the desk drawers trying to not make a sound with them. One seems to be stubborn and starts to immediately protest at being used, he stops quickly though.
Poe will glance upward to see if anyone was within the room with him. He'll just give a shrug at them. What? At least he stopped before it made a bigger protest at being opened. Maybe the other could give it a try. ]

Akira's frowning a little at it, clearly not judging Poe for his attempt. There's a look of consideration before he gives an upward point of a finger - a look of "aha!"
Without explanation, he reaches into his bag, pulling out one of the knives he's obtained from these kinds of excursions. It's small, and it might be small enough to help with this? Only one way to find out...
Even if it doesn't, at least he'll be able to say he tried.
He points from the knife to the drawer, and then moves forward. With that, he begins very gently sliding the knife along the edges of the drawer - maybe it's a matter of a combined problem of paint sweating and a lengthy lack of use?? Or it could just be an internal problem, like with how the metal parts of the drawer don't always line up with the desk itself... ]

At seeing the knife he gives a nod. Poe really should get a weapon at some point. For the most part he stayed quiet keeping to his cleaning job and trying to mind his business in certain situations. It was hard to do but this adventure was helping with the twitchy feeling he had been having.
The knife will open the drawer without any trouble and making very little noise. No weird metal parts out of place. Just a stubborn drawer. Hopefully within it there would be something. They could get extremely and it'll be a 'junk' drawer that had many stupid and maybe useful nick nacks. ]

There's a silent exhale of relief as he slides the drawer open; he puts the knife away, and then moves to stand up straight. He's looking over to Poe for a moment, and then quietly making use of his Third Eye - there are, in fact, some useful items in the drawer...
Akira's giving Poe a small smile, and then signing. ]
At least the risk wasn't for nothing.
no subject
He glances at the other for a moment wondering why he's looking so intently at first. But smiles when Akira does. He signs back. ]
I'm glad. I wasn't sure if the risk would be worth it.
[ In the drawer is a pair of hair clippers, some electronic stuff, a random comb, there's also some dice, pens, pencils. He raises an eyebrow at the randomness of this drawer but he goes for the useful at first but takes the dice anyway. ]
Want to keep looking in here or go search somewhere else?

[ It's an idea - he almost worded it as some sort of order out of slight habit. He only just came back from home, and is very slightly still in Phantom Thief leader mode in this exploration. ]
no subject
[ If there really wasn't anything more in this area he would move on. Poe raises his eyebrows at the sort of order but it wasn't too bad. It was a bit different though coming from Akira. Maybe this was who he was back in his own world. He did say that he was a leader.
CommanderCaptain Dameron didn't really show up all that much, but when he needed to be stubborn or firm, that's when the leader part shined. ]no subject
What are you looking for in spaces this small?
no subject
I grew up in a home. Desk drawers always have clutter of some kind in them. Sometimes useful and sometimes not. Small spaces could easily have the things you're truly looking for. It's better to scout all areas, right?

It complicates things that he's on this mission too. So when they start their trek, she tries to as subtly as possible keep her distance from him. Keeping at least one other person between him and herself. Kara's with them too, so she does find herself whenever she thinks the other women isn't looking passing her small glances, trying to work out how she's doing. Is she doing alright? And, yes, perhaps it doesn't escape her that she's mad at Poe for being similarly worried about her...
So she's a hypocrite. What of it?
They enter the house and Faith decides to start her search up the stairs on the second floor. She's not entirely sure what she's looking for aside from the items Rey's said she wants to find, but she is curious what they're might be. Careful to be quiet with each step, she's able to scale the stairs without a single creak. She opts for the room at the end of the hall. She's brought a can filled with oil and a small brush with her for this very contingency. Planning! She oils the door up and then opens it up. It's a kid's room.
It's a little depressing imagining what might have happened to the child. Based on the faded boy band and teen heartthrob posters littering the walls she suspects it had belonged to a girl. Possibly a pre-teen. There's a collection of stuffed animals she looks through, trying to decide if maybe any of the kids she knew would like something like that or not. Perhaps they were too old. All the same she grabs a small stuffed dinosaur and continues her search.]

Still, that says nothing of Faith's mind and her heart. That's going to take a lot more healing. Kara gets that. She's tempted to reach out, brush her hand against Faith's, just for some comfort, some solidarity, but she has no idea if that would be welcome or not. After all, it had been an act of congress to hug her once.
Instead, they walk in silence, Kara glancing at Faith when Faith isn't glancing at her, and eventually, Kara follows her upstairs, wincing every time one of Faith's boots lands on a stair. Sure, she has enhanced hearing, but the Sound Eaters might too! They don't know!
She types out a ridiculously over-worried message, I could carry you up the stairs! It'd be quieter! but she doesn't get to show it to Faith because they've reached the top, and someone's bedroom. A kid's bedroom. Oh Rao, this is awful to see. At the dinosaur, Kara types out a new message, forgetting to erase her old, panicked one:]
Mike would love that.

He might be, but I know he has a tiny little toy dinosaur he still plays with. And it might be comforting, even if he pulls the whole "I'm a teenager and too old for toys!" thing, haha.

[besides, why deny her the quintessential teenager response? that stuff's entertaining! still, for the time being, Kara takes the dino, holding it to her chest.
she glances around the room, at the posters for bands she knows are popular now, on her Earth, and isn't that weird? Are they in the future in Reims? She shakes her head, looking around the room some more. She pulls open a drawer, and there's some folded t-shirts in it, band t-shirts and plain cotton tees. she pulls one out, holding it up to Faith.]
Could replace the one of yours I got a little bloody?

Do you think we should take some of this other stuff?
I feel kind of bad about it... But a lot of the kids could use this stuff, and the mattress from this bed could go to someone.
no subject
[Faith feels worst for them, really. It sucks to be here, but to be young and have to deal with this bullshit. She can't imagine. Faith grabs some still relatively new looking yet dusty sneakers and puts them into her bag, and then reaches for what looks like a card game of some kind and a small box.]
no subject
I just don't get it. If that room is tied to the Sound Eaters, if they're somehow bringing us here, then WHY do they need so many kids?
They can clearly make their own kids, so it's not like... It's just awful.
[she doesn't want to think about the whispers of ideas she's seen on the network - that maybe the Sound Eaters used to be the people of Reims. that they could one day turn into something like that. especially not all these kids, geez.]
no subject
She frowns, slowly opening the closet to have a look inside. There's a puffy blue jacket, a pink softball back, a couple softballs in a box, and a whole pile of old magazines on the floor. Faith reaches out and snatches the softball bat, turning it over in her hands.]

It's a good idea to grab dolls and toys. The children might like them.
There's some other little stuffed things on a shelf, and Rey makes her way over to grab the one that looks like a bear. Once it's in her bag, she's heading back over to stand near Faith, so they can talk a little. Things are still slightly awkward after the whole staged rescue thing, and Rey really wants to move past that.]
How long do you think these things have been sitting here?
no subject
[The situation with Rey feels like it happened ages ago, so much had happened in the interim. There's only a slight bit of awkwardness from Faith at looking at her. Too much crazy seems to go on around here that it's starting to be hard to keep track.]
no subject
When the invitation had gone up, though, Kara was quick to accept. Both scavenging for who-knows-what and keeping an eye out for the rest of them to keep them safe were distractions from the hell plaguing her mind right now when she lets herself think. So, she's not going to think, not about anything rhyming with Schmilgrave. Or... Hank. Or Fressica.
Yeah. None of that.
She doesn't have much to look for herself. Maybe she'll see what Rey picks up for soundproofing because that is surprisingly difficult to figure out, and her house is distinctly lacking in that protection. Otherwise, she's an annoying little ghost in a red cape, blurring from one party member to the other to see if she can help them or keep them from making noise. Following Rey's message, she sends one out of her own-]
un: supergirl: If you all need any help with anything, message me!! And BE CAREFUL!

She sets out some stuffed dolls and pushes them aside. Not important. There are some clothes, dresses and things that look like they might fit either herself or Kara. Those are also pushed aside. The tools she found out in the garage are kept, and she starts organizing them all in neat piles. Packages of candy from the kitchen are looked over, and she frowns as she tries to figure out if they're safe.]
How long are sweets on your world considered edible?
no subject
Depends on the sweet? Twinkies apparently survive forever.
The rest... I guess it would just depend on how it looks? I'm not a great judge of this. I ate a lot of fast food before coming here.
[with the exception of the holidays, Kara's life was made up of pizza and Chinese take-out, Rey, sorry.]
Why don't we wrap the tools with the clothes? Might help fit everything better too, and keep them quiet.
