MOD LOG #2

MOD LOG #2

Now we're back to the beginning
Content Warnings: Death, apocalypse, a shit storm generally, pigeon death
Themes: Survival, plot

As noted on the ooc plotting post, this prompt is in the form of a Network Post via the native who runs the Bulletin Board. The post can be found here. Out of the five separate teams, all groups decided to share the footage they found. On the morning of the first, the footage will go live as a compilation in order of oldest to newest. Character's devices will update at the same time. The weather is overcast and sullen, befitting the news, and characters can talk to each other on the network post or play out their reactions on the log here.

Will you stay or will you go

Themes: Survival, plot

On the morning of the second, the locals will call a meeting at town hall. All soundproofing and partnering rules apply - find a person and help soundproof the area. This is so that everyone can speak during the meeting. The found footage has unsettled the natives and after the community takes a seat, Constance will share some interesting backstory. As one of the oldest members of the community, Constance wasn't alive when the Sound Eaters first came but she heard stories from her great grandmother. The 'tales' have taken twists and turns over time, leaving the survivors with a watered down version of events that amounts to - they came and everyone had to be quiet.

An elderly native will come forward and admit that they arrived through the Reset Room when they were a teenager and have been living there ever since. They tried to get home and they could never find away. Most interestingly, to those that listen closely to his story, is that he came with a sibling who was killed by a Sound Eater and wasn't Reset. Yet, he's known people to come through the Reset Room, die, and come back. Piping up from the background, another local mentions that those born in the world they're in now (natives) aren't reset when they die. It's not something they have any real understanding of. Arrivals tend to disappear at random times, stay in the community, or leave; those that choose to depart and explore the world never make it very far. Whether this is from Sound Eaters alone or someone or something else, the natives don't know. It's obvious they are frightened and don't go beyond what they know is safe.

The natives will now ask the characters if they will stay as permanent members of the community. If they choose to, they will be given the option to take on an apartment that is completely soundproofed, furnished, and will be accepted completely by the natives. This can open up doors for characters to become important parts of the community. No character has to agree to become permanent members. If a character chooses not to, the arrangement they're in will stay the same until a few months from now when the natives ask again. Arrivals are given the chance to talk to one another so that they can decide and digest the new information. There is also a comment below to ask the natives questions 'in front of' the entire community.

ooc: Players have until apps close this upcoming round to comment to the housing page saying that their character chose to be permanent members and are taking an apartment. The apartment is located closer to the Reset Room and are either one or two bedrooms; please note which one your character is taking.

Therefore I lie with her

The native Constance, who hands out the devices, has decided to step back from a leadership role and has submitted the names of those that she believes could lead the group better than she has. Please vote responsibly. During dinner, a group meal prepared and served in the town hall, slips of paper will be passed around with a pencil for everyone to vote. They will be anonymous unless the person chooses to share out loud who they voted for. There won't be much time for campaigning, but candidates are allowed to do so if they'd like - either handwaved or through their own posts/top-levels.

THE CANDIDATES:

- Frank Castle
- Erik Lehnsherr
- Teddy Upsilon
- Richie Tozier
- Akira Kurusu
- Merlan O'Keefe

I feel like in the interest of our relationship I should disclose something. If you brainjack me F.R.I.D.A.Y.’s under orders to taze first me, then you. I’m not really working with the best parts here so let’s not find out if the voltage is as nonlethal as I intended it to be.

[Just an heads up. He wouldn’t come without a plan, obviously. Anyways he’ll wave his hand towards the house.]

But yeah, sure. After you.
kiljoy: (aka nothing on the telly)

[personal profile] kiljoy 2018-03-07 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[He has no idea what that means so shoots Stark a puzzled look. But he intends to find out. Stepping inside, Kilgrave carefully closes the door behind them before he shows Stark through to the lounge where there's a couch and a couple of armchairs if he'd like to take a seat. The place is actually well-furnished, thanks mainly to Kilgrave mind controlling and/or convincing various people into collecting furniture for him.

He sits down, gestures for Stark to sit down too, crosses his legs.]

The house is soundproofed. We should be able to talk here. Quietly, of course. [He tilts his head.] What's Friday? Or F-R-I-D-A-Y if that's what you call it.
flyguy: (Explanation)

[personal profile] flyguy 2018-03-07 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tony looks around, noting the decor. Not that it’s just him noting it. F.R.I.D.A.Y. is looking too and categorizing the various soundproofing measures for him. Dropping into one of the chairs he doesn’t so much sit as slouch, leaning back and resting his head against his propped up arm, fingers forming an L next to his face. It’s a contrast to Kilgrave, unconsciously intentional. He always does have to be contrary.]

Personal defense system. Among other things. I’ve been here for a month, plenty of time to build all sorts of things. I thought you were going to show me something.

[He doesn’t really want to sit down and discuss their lives. Nature of present company aside he has a lot of work to do and only so many hours of daylight.]
kiljoy: (aka gotcha)

[personal profile] kiljoy 2018-03-07 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I was. But you'll have to disable your defence system or at least tell it not to taze anyone if you want to see.

[He's offering a demonstration of mind control. But not if he's going to get an electric shock doing it.]

[He thinks about it. He could ask how stupid Kilgrave thinks he is, but he feels he knows the answer to that question already.]

F.R.I.D.A.Y.. If he does anything untoward— bring the house down.

[He’s looking directly at Kilgrave as he says it.]

Roger, boss.

[F.R.I.D.A.Y. speaks audibly for Kilgrave’s benefit. If she has any objections there’s no inflection in her voice indicating it. Tony lifts his head from his hand.]

Ready when you are.
kiljoy: (aka nothing on the telly)

[personal profile] kiljoy 2018-03-09 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Kilgrave raises his eyebrows. Assuming that Stark isn't bluffing, he's not going to be able to control him with as much freedom as he would like.]

You know that would kill both of us. [He exhales.] Never mind. [What counts as untoward then? Anything that would harm Stark, he supposes. It doesn't really matter for the purposes of demonstration, even if he would like to deflate Stark's ego a little bit.] Close your eyes. The Sound Eaters are blind, apparently, so sign language won't work. The only possible option to control them is by speaking. Now answer me truthfully. If I told you to disable F.R.I.D.A.Y., what would happen?
flyguy: credit <user name="createdamurderbot" site="tumblr"> (Cure our dirty needs)

Lmk if I’m doing this wrong smh

[personal profile] flyguy 2018-03-09 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Close his eyes? What is this, trust exercises time? But for whatever reason —or the obvious reason— he’s only too happy to do as ordered. A distant part of him notes it’s different from when Wanda was in his head. Less… Unpleasant.

Which of course is what makes it twice as disturbing because nice things happening in his life??]

Activate the Iron Man gauntlet, use it’s force to throw me out the window through soundproofing and all. Proceed to destroy every load bearing wall we’ve been noting since I walked in this room. Take about three seconds, maybe five at most. Probability I’d have broken ribs and a concussion is high, not to mention the noise would draw the Sound Eaters, so she’d most likely attach the gauntlet to you —or what’s left of you until you presumably reset— and send out ultrasonic pulses to draw them away until I could crawl to safety.

[The amount of disturbed he sounds by this is about nill. He’s run the numbers. F.R.I.D.A.Y.’s done the same. He feels reasonably comfortable in his chances of survival. And if he doesn’t?

There’s always (hopefully) the rest room.]
kiljoy: (aka understanding)

it's fine!

[personal profile] kiljoy 2018-03-09 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, that was very descriptive. Kilgrave draws out the obvious conclusion:]

So you're saying that your self-defence system would activate before you had a chance to disable it. Is that right?

[He doubts Stark would survive the consequences either if it came to that, but he's not inclined to risk it. No reason to.]
flyguy: (be one)

[personal profile] flyguy 2018-03-09 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. You’re not my first go around with mind control.

[Or even his third, really. Though Loki had been unable to turn him he’d seen enough of the hell Barton went through.]

You have your answers. Release Mr. Stark.

[F.R.I.D.A.Y.’s voice sounds out, tone an order. While she had collected information on all changes to Tony’s biology throughout this exchange —she wasn’t an idiot or program incapable of autonomous action— she saw no benefit in prolonged control.]
kiljoy: (aka poker face)

[personal profile] kiljoy 2018-03-09 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Look at that, the AI is getting uppity. Kilgrave rolls his eyes.]

Tell your pet program to shut up and calm down. I'm not finished.

[He waits a second for Stark to do that, tapping his fingers on the arm of his chair.]

All right, Stark. Hold your breath. My point as you have so aptly demonstrated is that I need to speak for my orders to be communicated and you need to hear and obey. Something fast like a rogue computer program or, let's say, a Sound Eater, would most likely get me before I had a chance to give my command. That's assuming they even understand English. They might not. I'm not inclined to find out.

[So that's his explanation. He's now going to enjoy watching Stark go blue in the face.]
flyguy: (All my shivs were built to last)

[personal profile] flyguy 2018-03-09 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Armor, mute F.R.I.D.A.Y..

[It's a command and any complaints F.R.I.D.A.Y. might give are silenced. There's that feeling of terror as he's ordered to hold his breath. How many times has he almost died? Been dead on the table even? Somehow that fear never goes away. He's not like Steve. He has a sense of mortality. He's not like Natasha. His sins don't weigh him down that far.

So he listens, sweats it out as he begins to turn blue, grow dizzy, vision edges black. Kilgrave might get a little laugh at his eyes beginning to bug as he slips down in his seat. All the fun stuff it's not his first time experiencing, not even his second, because everything is always a third or fourth or tenth iteration with him at this point of playing at superheroes.

And what do you know, suffocating still sucks just as much as the last time he remembers it. Guess he's never going to be into that kink. Then metal is sprouting from the watch on his wrist and his hand is rising of no compulsion on his part. A metal glove, red and silver and iconically Iron Man covers his hand as F.R.I.D.A.Y. points his palm at Kilgrave.]

What do you take me for? This is your final warning, Kilgrave. Release Mr. Stark.

[Tony has more than one device with a speaker on him. His communication device lights up in his pocket as F.R.I.D.A.Y. speaks. There's always a redundancy.]

[personal profile] kiljoy 2018-03-09 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Kilgrave smiles with obvious satisfaction as he watches Stark struggle in his seat, unable to even try and help himself while his body screams for oxygen. It's a small lesson in the grand scheme of things but an important one. Stark needs to know that he's not totally invulnerable.

That said, the metal gauntlet suddenly appearing around Stark's hand is disconcerting. Kilgrave frowns, raising his eyebrows.]

Sassy, isn't she? You wanted a demonstration of my powers, don't blame me when I give you one. You can breathe now. So, you've been mind controlled before? By whom?

[He carries on as if this is a completely normal conversation. He's interested to hear about his competition.]
flyguy: (Your face displayed so proud)

[personal profile] flyguy 2018-03-09 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tony takes a moment to breathe. He doesn't right himself initially, nor does F.R.I.D.A.Y. drop his hand, but— in a way this is every day for him. And so when the color returns to his face—]

That's an intimate question. You haven't even asked me boxers or briefs.

[THE MOST SERIOUS OF PAUSES while F.R.I.D.A.Y. relays vital statistics to Tony via the display of his glasses. It is, in most ways, about what he expected. Which doesn't really deter him because he was right. His mind is already running through various scenarios to trap Sound Eaters, test Kilgrave's powers on them. It's not that he doesn't think he can kill a Sound Eater. It's that he doesn't know what they're after. If he could know, stop this, end this

It's a stupid fear gripping his heart that something or someone will take Earth while he's not there to protect it. It's a desperation that fuels him to the irrational.]

It's a depressingly reoccurring power set. Bet you constantly wonder just how much of what people tell you is true and what you order them to say. [There are scales pettier than Tony Stark's, but they are few and far between.] So what you're saying is you've never tried and you can't guarantee performance on demand. And if I could promise you a chance at a Sound Eater, 100% safe to you?

[IT'S A TERRIBLE IDEA but also he's desperate, haters to the left. And also frankly trying ultra hard to control his wtf I almost just died feelings. He's a bit all over.]
kiljoy: (aka understanding)

[personal profile] kiljoy 2018-03-10 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I just watched you asphyxiate. That's intimate enough; some people get off on that. [He's not one of them, incidentally. Kilgrave gives the gauntlet a look, as if it's personally insulted him.] Don't point that thing at me.

[Anyway, moving on... Yes, Stark's summary is basically accurate so he doesn't contradict it. But his offer is more intriguing. Kilgrave doesn't hesitate to answer.]

Then I'd certainly try it. But you'd have to capture one first.

[And he'd want his own safety guaranteed. Can Stark really promise 100%? Seems unlikely.]
