i. soundproofing shenanigans
[ tetora was given, in exchange for his knives and other items, a task to do — soundproofing maintenance. it's an easy enough job, if tedious, but tetora hates owing people anything as much as he hates being chased, and he hates being chased a lot. so work it is — tetora sets out, door to door, and waits for residents to notice him before he gets to work.

if you find someone randomly loitering at your doorstep at some point this month? it's this guy, and he's here to protect your house from noise. ]

[ "castle wheeler-byers" does have a nice ring to it, props to these kids. tetora starts getting to work though - starting with the cans, as he moves them aside and over the newspapers laid out on the floor. look, he'll even arrange them by color for easy access. ]

yeah, just us. we get a lot of help, though, from some of the adults here. and some of the other kids.

[ if tetora could laugh, he would. but he doesn't, because oiling hinges is actually serious work when you can just about hit the top of the door jamb. ]

the best part about being small is no one ever sees you coming for them.

yup. and you can hide easier. what do you do with all this stuff?

i pad things to make them immovable or quiet. for some things, i make sure they're secured to the ground.

[ tetora watches will as he's watching the tools laid out between them, and cocks his head. ]
