i. soundproofing shenanigans
[ tetora was given, in exchange for his knives and other items, a task to do — soundproofing maintenance. it's an easy enough job, if tedious, but tetora hates owing people anything as much as he hates being chased, and he hates being chased a lot. so work it is — tetora sets out, door to door, and waits for residents to notice him before he gets to work.

if you find someone randomly loitering at your doorstep at some point this month? it's this guy, and he's here to protect your house from noise. ]

House 12. Living with a few others in there.

[ there's a distinct lack of personhood in the surroundings, which is a little suspect but... hm. ]

Not at all. I enjoy company, if I've chosen it. Holing up with a bunch of strangers isn't my idea of fun.

[Suffice to say he's not enjoying being cooped up alone. Otherwise he wouldn't bother talking to Tetora at all. At some point any human contact is welcome.]

Well, I gotta say I'm the same on that front. It's why I picked the garage to live in, personally - no one wants to live in the garage. It's perfect.

So what do you do? For the community, I mean. They saddled me with this job, you know, soundproofing people's houses so I can get my shit back.

Teaching, apparently. Not that I've had much chance, what with everything that's happened. [He waves a hand vaguely. Things like being murdered and going into hiding have been occupying a lot of his time. Anyway...] It's good to have some dedicated help around the house. Make sure you soundproof every room. Oh, except the room with a closed door, don't go in there. And clean the place while you're at it. I could do with tidying up.

[The closed door, incidentally, goes into Bedroom 3 where Kilgrave has some things he doesn't want anyone to see. But Tetora doesn't need to know that.]

[ it's a weird feeling, wanting to do as someone tells him to do, and it raises some suspicion in tetora given that he doesn't want to do any more than he's required to do. still, he goes about it, tabling the weird tingly feeling of kilgrave's words to the back of his mind.

he does happen on bedroom three, by total accident - he'd been looking for the master bedroom, and seeing as he only stays in the garage in house twelve he has no care for the general layout of the interiors. he has a hand on the doorknob, but something keeps him from opening it, even though he knows he really wants to. tetora takes one look at it, blinks, and then walks away. nope. something weird is definitely going on. ]

Hey, yo - ever thought of hiring a stay-out maid or cleaner? Your place is a mess.

[By this time Kilgrave is sprawled out on the couch flipping through the network on his device. He raises an eyebrow when Tetora returns. Finally done, eh.]

I've thought about it. Are you volunteering?

[Problem is that he compels his staff but if he's going to keep his deal with Jessica then he's not allowed to do that. It's a conundrum.]

Cleaning isn't my thing, so no.

[ he puts a little pressure behind the no, makes sure it comes with a whisper of drop it, testing the waters to see where this little encounter will take him. he has his suspicions, and if he's right...

he hopes he isn't. but what can one do if he is? ]

You should hire someone, though.

[The deal he made with Jessica includes agreeing not to control anyone on a permanent basis, which clearly he would have to in order to make Tetora his live-in servant, so that's a no-go. It's frustrating really. The kid's suggestion is a no-brainer which Kilgrave would have done already if he didn't have Jessica and friends lurking around trying to kidnap everyone who comes into contact with him.

So he shrugs, waving a hand.]

Then I'll have to find someone more suitable than you. Leave.

Sure thing, [ tetora says, waving on his way out. he was ready to leave anyway. ] Don't do anything crazy and get killed, yeah?

[ ...hah uh. ]

Not while I'm around, anyway.
