i. soundproofing shenanigans
[ tetora was given, in exchange for his knives and other items, a task to do — soundproofing maintenance. it's an easy enough job, if tedious, but tetora hates owing people anything as much as he hates being chased, and he hates being chased a lot. so work it is — tetora sets out, door to door, and waits for residents to notice him before he gets to work.

if you find someone randomly loitering at your doorstep at some point this month? it's this guy, and he's here to protect your house from noise. ]

your pick, [ tetora signs at her, and hopefully the devices pick up on translating it. he stuffs his hands in his pockets while he waits for her to decide. ]

i figure we should go with where you feel like first, and then i'll challenge us with somewhere pretty difficult.

[Fortunately the device does translate, because otherwise she'd have no idea what he just signed.]

well my house is done, so bring on the challenge.

[ challenge it is, then. tetora raises her a thumbs up, then picks a direction at random.

yes, they're breaking into someone's home to soundproof. it's gonna be fun. ]

don't get caught on my watch, okay? we're doing this the hard way.

[She glances at him sideways and raises her eyebrows at that.]

what does that mean exactly?

we're soundproofing in secret.

[ he's total bad news, kiddo. are you ready? ]

are you game or what?

[oh like she's going to turn back now.

i'm game.

[nishizono]

[ and with that, tetora carefully vaults himself over the fence of a random house, mindful not to make any noise as he climbs his way down. a second later his head pops up from the other side of the fence, looking expectantly at max. ]

[If she was in any place where the tiniest noise wasn't an issue, Max wouldn't even hesitate to try that same move. Here, she's a little more careful. She arches an eyebrow and makes her way around the fence, thank you very much.]

[nishizono]

[ ...no fun, max.

tetora curtsies at her though, offering her the door for her to break into. he put the tools for it in the bag he gave her, if she decides to rummage through it. if not, he's more than happy to do it for her, but where's the fun in that? ]

[Won't he be surprised when she moves right up to the door, uses the tools he's provided, and jimmies the lock with the ease of someone who has done this before?

She shoots him a smirk as she puts the tools away quietly before stepping into the house.]

[ oh look at him be proud at this scene: a youngster leading a fellow youngster astray, just as teens should be. tetora salutes her with a wide grin on his face, visibly impressed. there's an upstanding young member of society, if you ask tetora. he signs for her to pick a random direction to head in, while he picks one for himself too.

race to finish? ]

[She grins at the look on his face, pleased by the reaction. She nods in agreement. Race to see who finishes their section of the house first.

You're so on, Tetora.]

[ it's a proper race, then. tetora has the benefit of being older and more experienced, but it's still leg work - or in this case, arm work. tetora works diligently and as fast as he can manage, while wondering how max is doing. ]

[He definitely has advantages working in his favor and when she hears his footsteps approaching some time later, she's actually pouting because she's not quite finished. Dammit. She hates losing. Still, they've got a great start on two rooms of this house, which is cool.]
