i. soundproofing shenanigans
[ tetora was given, in exchange for his knives and other items, a task to do — soundproofing maintenance. it's an easy enough job, if tedious, but tetora hates owing people anything as much as he hates being chased, and he hates being chased a lot. so work it is — tetora sets out, door to door, and waits for residents to notice him before he gets to work.

if you find someone randomly loitering at your doorstep at some point this month? it's this guy, and he's here to protect your house from noise. ]

[ tetora gives her a wide smile, all teeth and a thumbs up before he gets down from the steps he's sitting on. ] I live nearby.

[ he flips one of the knives in his hand and tosses arya a nod. ] You ready for me?

[She did too, but she'd been near the Town Hall. Well. She'll have to work to be sure that she didn't lose at anything else. Arya is nothing if not competitive. Always looking to prove herself.

Arya reaches for her smallsword, Needle, and unsheathes it in a graceful motion, holding it out at the ready in front of her. It's a thin blade, but suits Arya fine, considering her size. She couldn't exactly wield a broadsword. She'll leave her dagger at her belt for now, only to make use of it if she needed to.] Of course I'm ready.

[ a nod is all he gives in acknowledgment of the fight starting; tetora's rushing forward and slashing one of his knives at her in smooth practiced gestures in the very next moment. it's a game of cat and cat, essentially; both of them well-practiced in what they do, deadly even, that the sound of metal whispering and hissing against metal becomes musical after the first opening moves.

but to step things up: tetora aims a slash at arya's sword arm, hoping for contact. ]

[Arya is quick. Quicker than a normal girl her age might be. But it's due to years of practice and a touch of the supernatural from her training with the Faceless Men. But Tetora is quick too and a touch unhinged which helps nearly as much as skill in a fight. It makes it harder to figure out what your opponent might do next. She's delighted that he's not going easy on her, that he's not pulling his slashes with the knives or openly telegraphing his movements.

It's odd that a boy trying to actively stab her would make her like him more, but Arya's more than a little unhinged herself. She is able to fade back from his attempt and slicing open in her arm, just barely, but uses that momentary distraction to pull out her dagger with her free right hand and slash toward his midsection with a gleaming feral grin. She's having fun now.]

[ it's on now. arya nicks his shirt, the cloth parting cleanly from the sharpness of the blade, and tetora grins. there's no two ways about it; this fight is one of the better ones that he's gonna have here, because there's no holding back between the two of them. the light in arya's eyes tells him as much.

tetora dances around arya for a moment, a quick readjustment of footwork, then swinging out with a slash across. ]

[Arya moves away, darting left. But while she avoids the knife catching her belly, it does graze her arm, cutting through the leather covering it and cutting shallowly. It will draw blood, but she's barely flinches.

Instead she rolls away, knife going away again and sword coming out. They'll likely both be coming out of this with some of their blood missing and looking like they've been attacked by a feral cat.]

[ it's gonna be some big fucking cat, because now arya's proper hardware is own and tetora's smile is sharper than it's ever been since this this fight began. tetora flips the knife in one hand to have the blade's sharp edge on the outside, now holding it properly the way he would for a to-the-death fight.

here they go. tetora waits for arya to make the first move, this time. ]

[Arya usually likes to be the one attacked, to put the other person off balance when they came in for the kill. But she'll take his bait, otherwise they'd just be left dancing around one another and never doing anything. As she gauges Tetora, her sword is being held behind her back, she moves to the right first and then left, watching the movement of his feet and the placement of his blades.

Finally she darts forward, sword sliding back into view. Needle is longer than his knives which does give her better reach at least. At first she seems to be aiming for his right leg, but instead pivots to poke her sword at his left thigh.]

[ it's a swift slash that follows the feint, and tetora hisses under his breath when the blade cuts. it's a good move - he notes it, wonders if he can adapt it to his use of knives in case he never gets his sword back. maybe when he has his wakizashi with him, they can have a proper swordfight then. in the meanwhile, tetora gives arya a downward slash, aiming for her midsection, the sharp of the blade turned out and aimed at her. ]

[Arya needs to fall flat onto her back just to avoid getting her insides spilled out onto the floor. Maybe she'll get to feel what it's like to die before this fight is over if they keep up like this.

She takes a breath and then rolls away. Were she to try to get up so close to him, Tetora could just move to stab her while she recovers. Once she feels far enough away she flips back to her feet and then she's right back into the fray, sword low but ready to attempt to deflect his blade.]

[ it's an impressive roll that she makes, falling on her back then twisting away into a roll that gets her back on her feet before tetora can properly finish appreciating the flexibility required for such a move.

he could do to learn it, and he says as much as he switches knives for the longer ones. ]

Who taught you how to fight?

[He's got longer knives. Of course he does. Arya is still ready for him to attack, but answers the question.] Trained in the free city of Braavos. Under the Faceless Men. Assassins.

How many different kinds of knives do you have...? [She asks, wondering if she's to expect him to start pulling out progressively longer knives the longer they went on.]

[ ...well, she's not wrong. with the progressively longer knives, that is. ]

Keep fighting me and find out. Did you know I have a sword back home? [ and he does - a wakizashi he literally killed to get. that's the best way to earn things, he thinks: fight to the death for it. at least that way, ownership is undisputed. tetora flips one of the knives in the air, neatly catching it again at the handle. ] Don't tell me you're quitting now.

I didn't know that. Maybe you're get it back. Like I got mine. And then you can show me how you use it. [Needle is her prized possession. To get it back meant everything.

Her eyes narrow at the challenge.] Not a chance. [And then she's attacking him again, both blade and dagger out and at the ready.]

[[ooc: we can fade with them continuing to fight and presumably both bleeding all over the place?]]

You're on, then.

[ they parry a few more times, the fight turning serious as the cuts progressively get deeper and deeper. it's a good spar, if it still qualifies as that - there's a playful intent in the way he and arya seem to be slashing at each other now, the edges of their want to fight sharpening with every hiss and whistle of metal against metal.

it's a good spar. tetora would do this all over again. ]
