i. soundproofing shenanigans
[ tetora was given, in exchange for his knives and other items, a task to do — soundproofing maintenance. it's an easy enough job, if tedious, but tetora hates owing people anything as much as he hates being chased, and he hates being chased a lot. so work it is — tetora sets out, door to door, and waits for residents to notice him before he gets to work.

if you find someone randomly loitering at your doorstep at some point this month? it's this guy, and he's here to protect your house from noise. ]

[ the feet catch his attention first, a touch of cold apprehension running its way up his spine for a heart-stopping moment before he realizes what he's seeing in his periphery. tetora turns towards the person the feet belongs to, and is pleasantly surprised to recognize the person he's looking at. ]

emily. we meet again.

[ at least, if memory serves him right, that's the name he got from her during his drug-induced lapse of judgment. ]

i'm here as part of the community service, actually. soundproofing.

[She gives him a small hint of a smile at the recognition.]

It's a small community. It was bound to happen.

[Ah, that makes sense, but it doesn't make her less apprehensive about an intruder. Anyone could pose as someone doing soundproofing and--

Perhaps she's too paranoid.]

Sanctioned trespassing, then. Hunting seems boring in comparison.

[ he nods in acknowledgment at the sanctioned trespassing part; it's true enough, tetora wouldn't have taken the job without the perk of getting to snoop in on other people. still, a job is a job, even if tetora's the type who's loathe to do them if given a choice.

[Carefully, Emily climbs down from the roof to the porch. Where she lands, there's a small patch of sand to help absorb the sound. She could use her powers, but - well, not causing anyone to panic is the better option.]

how to break into people's homes with just tools, for one.
how to soundproof a place from murder sounds is another.

[ he's painfully familiar with the latter especially, given that he's essentially a born-and-bred assassin for most of his life, and only just recently broke away from the life to... continue murdering, but in the opposite direction. ]

Both are equally promising lessons. [Emily has several ways to break into homes, but she's never quite used tools before. And soundproofing for murder had never been something Corvo would have taught her. Kill, get out without being seen. Never be seen.
