INTRO LOG #1

INTRO LOG #1

Muzzle and Mute
Content Warnings: Disorientation, memory loss, confusion
Themes: Arrival, survival, exploration, horror

You wake, standing. A thick, muddy red dust coats your skin and clothes - it sticks to your tongue and blocks your vision. Inhale and it chokes you, exhale and your breath puffs out in front of your face in a transparent maroon cloud. It tastes of copper, tangy and harsh. Movement is difficult, every limb tingles and aches. Look to your left, your right. Evenly spaced in each direction stands another person indistinguishable in every way from the next. You're disoriented and lethargic, unable to grasp onto a single thought. A pinprick of light blooms ahead and grows steadily larger; a door has opened.

Hands grip your wrists, push at the small of your back and guide you out of the darkness into a room with four walls and a thin, sagging ceiling. The plaster is peeling, the air is musty, and the floor is slick. White plastic piping juts up from the center and curves into multiple spouts, clean water flowing in uneven streams. Those hands pull your clothes off and clear the dust from your body, redress you in handsewn jumpsuits. By the time they’re through, you will have begun to come back to yourself.

A finger is pressed to your lips. Kind eyes meet your own and a single word is whispered - hush.

Led out of the room in a line, you’re taken down a short hallway and into another, much larger room. There’s a woman waiting for you there, a child hugging her leg, and a cloth bag in her hands. She reaches in and pulls out a device, passes one to each of you. Once finished, she begins to move both hands in graceful gestures, a language. One of the people who helped you lifts their device and the screen lights up, tracks the woman’s hands. Letters appear on the screen and you understand the device’s purpose. She tells you what she knows and it’s not much.

This world is haunted. Noise attracts them, so it is not allowed. Communication is through body language, soundless writing, and the device. She tells you that your feet must be light and your mouth never used. There is a community outside these doors, where you can survive together, but only if you agree to one thing: complete and total silence. You'll have time to talk it over. You may ask one question and receive one answer.

Acceptance allows you to journey outside. The ground is marked in pathways of sand, lining the paths to each building and everywhere in-between. You notice that the locals hold their devices always, aloft and glance to it often. It will not vibrate or make a sound to signal a message. Notices appear. Rules. Guidelines. Feet on the sand and never anywhere else. To open a door you brush your fingers along the hinges - oiled and you may enter. If not, take the brush from the can sitting nearby and coat the metal with the dark liquid.

Now, you're to settle into your new home.

The Man in the Hat
Content Warnings: Heavy lifting, following the rules, alcoholism
Themes: Moving in, survival, exploration, horror

Once you’ve claimed a room for yourself, it’s time to acclimate to the community. Natives will ask what you need and take you along the sandpaths to different areas in the city to gather supplies - furniture and the like. Heavier items will require assistance and will take longer. Houses are mostly empty so if you and your housemates need something, you’ll have to carry it and put it inside the home. Do not make any noise or the natives will refuse to help you. Getting to know your housemates is key to a smooth transition. They are going through what you are right now; take the time to get to know them. Make house rules.

As the first day gives way to night, the natives can be seen moving at a faster pace outside. They’re hurried, though not frightened. Some even smile at you. When the sun sets behind the ruins of what was once picturesque Reims, your device will signal that it’s time to meet at the center of the community. There, natives will stop each person and give them a small gift - a trinket, a token to show that they are trying their best to make all the new arrivals feel at home. These are all items from the character’s home or from another character's home (they will not be anything that belongs to anyone else). Small, soundless and either something taken during the application process or something brand new. They will have no powers to speak of and are meant to be a momento. If asked, the natives found them the same way they found each of you.

Then the party starts. Sort of. A soundless, stitled kind of celebration. Fun is meant to be had, but it’s not an overly joyous occasion. The natives simply don’t know how to cut loose. There will be extra food in the form of one and two; Phillipa even brought some of her homemade bread. If you stumble across a man wearing a hat, the only man in town who does, and agree to go with him when he offers to show you his house - he’ll gift you with a jar of hooch; it’ll burn on the way down.

Sound Eaters
Content Warnings: Threat, danger
Themes: Survival, exploration, horror, game plot

It’s the second day of your stay, and the natives call for an emergency meeting at the Town Hall. Everyone is paired off (see below) and are asked to walk the perimeter looking for anything out of place and patching any areas that might have been affected by weather. Once finished, the same is done on the inside, and when the community leader is satisfied, the main hall is opened up so that everyone can congregate. Characters, during this time only, are allowed to make sound. This is so that the natives can explain why silence is so necessary...

The Sound Eaters.

In an effort not to frighten everyone, the natives won’t go into the history just yet, but they will warn that when someone makes a sound, it attracts them. They don’t know what they look like because they are so fast. If you’re too loud, then in the blink of an eye, you’ll go through a room reset. This is because either the natives ‘silenced’ you or the Sound Eaters have. They will explain that the room came at the same time the Sound Eaters did and that it doesn’t work for the natives. Sometimes, it doesn’t work on new arrivals. Death, for those born in this world, is permanent. If you attract them, you’ll get someone killed. Hence the need for no noise. During the meeting, the natives will tell each character of their own experiences. Their losses. The families they have left and how they’d do anything to keep them alive. They don’t know if you’ll be reset, but is that a risk you’re willing to take? The meeting will last a few hours and will end on a somber, ominous note - at the end of the month, they are taking everyone to meet them.

I'll go along with their rules and with them for now. You're right in saying that. They probably only know this life. People can do desperate things. A bunch of us will hate these conditions and some of the others will just be afraid like the natives.

There's too many people here and I wouldn't want to risk their lives if this plan goes array.

I'm always thinking up a plan. An ambush would take a lot of time to plan and have people agree to the risks. We don't know what we could be possibly up against. Death will probably be a possibility. For the moment, we can focus on surviving and come back to this or just talk about it in general. The more information we can find out the better.

Well, if death weren't a possibility it wouldn't be as exciting.

That being said, I'm Giorno Giovanna. Should we go through with the ambush, I can be a healer, though fighting is no problem with me as well.

Protecting the town and finding out what we can - for our safety, and so that those of us who want to go back, can do so safely - that's as good of a start for anyone who's new to living here. I'm for it.

Sometimes people don't want to take that kind of risk. Others take it for the cause that they are apart of.

I'm Poe Dameron. I think we can do this ambush idea, but my only suggestion would be to not do this with the two of us. If we had a few more it might be more ideal. I would only be good as a distraction and making noise. I can fight but these hauntings could be far more powerful than me. I know I can't go against powerful beings. Even if I'm not intimidated by them. I'll keep in mind of your talents and gifts. What exactly is a healer where you come from?

Protecting the town will be very important for everyone here. If we need to, we'll retreat if it's too dangerous.

That's fine. We've got plenty of time to get to know the others in this town and see how they feel about it, along with other abilities they can bring into the table. The worst thing that can happen to anybody here is to be comfortable. It is more difficult to persuade someone into action when they have resigned themselves to their circumstances, however terrifying or bearable things may be.

As for healing .... are you familiar with the story of Frankenstein?
gotyourselfapilot: (pic#10134747)

[personal profile] gotyourselfapilot 2018-01-17 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable doing something such as this. It might not be good to do it right away but it might help to know how they could hurt us. Well, they can get a bit comfortable, because we got no where else to go for the moment. But I'm sure there'll be a lot of others who would want to know so we can figure out the next part. Getting out of this place. But can't do that when we don't know how bad these hauntings are. All they need is a bit of push, motivation, hope and they may get put into action.

No, I'm not familiar with this Frankenstein story. The world I come from is more like a Galaxy, space travel is the most common there. Stories for me were about the Force and the Jedi, as well as personal stories.

From a galaxy! With space travel! You are every child's dream.

[ that's a lot more optimistic than what giorno is willing to grant someone, but he'll let it slide.

as for frankenstein, it takes him a few tries to type out a shortened version of it that sort of makes sense in relation to his powers, until he's got something half-decent to show to poe: ]

Frankenstein's story is quite well-known back in my world. It is the story of a scientist, who, out of his grief, buries himself in science and the occult, and devices a technique to impart life into non-living matter .... eventually, he creates a humanoid of sorts, but the difficulty of recreating and merging human parts and so on makes it disshapen and rather grotesque ....

My healing abilities are somewhat similar! It's not necessarily 'healing', but ... the ability to create and merge parts into a whole. That's how it goes. It's quite painful, though. And unlike Frankenstein, I am very good at what I do. :)

I'm a pilot. But I can do other things than just that.

[ Poe waits as Giorno writes up the story. He figures that when people were willing to tell their stories that he would be patient. There was something about learning things that he didn't mind. Plus it would help him to understand the other's powers. Once reading through it when the other was finished. His jaw slowly parts in awe and surprise. It did sound rather painful but at least someone would be put back together. ]

Creating and merge parts into a whole. I didn't think anything like that could be possible. I'm guessing you would be able to mend broken bones even if it will be painful.

[ He looks slightly up at Giorno with a small smile. Poe's gonna ask about one thing since it's probably not something they use in his Galaxy. ]

What's the little image at the end?

Oh, definitely. Amputations are my specialty, actually - it takes time to grow a limb or so, but it's not impossible, and it's fully operational after an hour or so, like you didn't lose it at all.

And this, you mean?
[ he points at the end of the sentence. ]

It's a smile! You've never used one? I tend to use it sparingly, that way it catches you by surprise. Expand your text prowess, my friend:

:)
:(
>:)
>:(

And you can even add actions to it, so for example this one :Va is someone looking very contemplative and scratching their chin about it.

There're more elaborate constructions, of course, but I'm a simple man with simple needs.

oscar isaac is the best but that's really hilarious to me!

[personal profile] gotyourselfapilot 2018-01-17 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
Operational after an hour is really something. Most broken bones take weeks to heal. We do have things in our Galaxy, tanks, that can help with some healing processes. Mostly used for the more extreme.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. Nope, normally it's just all professional text or spoken logs to my bb unit.

I will keep this all in mind though and use it against others depending on who they are and what. The action one looks pretty neat and makes sense once you explain exactly what it's for.

Simple things aren't bad a thing. This seems really simple to do and I don't need elaborate myself.

[ he can tell him so much more. how it goes beyond just healing and how one day, in a way that he didn't even expect, he ended up bringing back the dead. it was an accident. and he felt all the more terrible for it because of who it was and the circumstances he put them through, reanimated. but it's enough that poe knows the basics so that the two of them can make plans for the future, and hopefully inspire others to help them all the same.

well, more for poe's part than giorno's. giorno is stubborn and where he came from, his authority unchecked and taken with sacrifices. his ascension marked with blood and power. being here, in reims, not having even a fraction of what he has back home - it's a different experience. it has not made him desperate, but all the more curious about everyone else .... and nostalgic of home. he is so close to italy, and yet. and yet.

poe, having come from the stars, must feel like he was a grain of sand in an ocean. giorno thinks of these things, and smiles at him. ]

Have you figured out where you're staying? We should keep in touch. The town is small and newcomers stand out from this crowd, but it's best to start a ledger on acquaintances right now.

[ Giorno can someday if he wanted. Poe may not quite understand everything but he does understand consequences and what they mean. He wouldn't run away from anything he did for believing in doing the right thing. The man has faced being court-martialed before from the New Republic. There's a lot that he did for his own opinions on certain matters. For trying to make sure his father's worry or fear from happening.

Poe may have been from the stars, but he lived on a planet for a good chunk of his life. Until he was old enough to enlist to be among the stars as a pilot. He would need to adjust only a bit but it would take sometime. The man wasn't one to sit and do nothing. If there was a need he'd be out there doing it. A job, a mission, anything he would go out and prove that he could finish no matter what stood in his way.

There's a small smile back at Giorno. ]

I'm staying in House Seven. Hopefully I'll have some really handy housemates. Figuring out who they are, what they think about this place, if they are also looking to get out of here or finding out about the hauntings. We're all in jumpsuits, we do stick out more than the natives.

[ Poe's jumpsuit in particular would stand out more than others he's sure. A reddish orange but more orange than anything. He would at least keep to Resistance colors. ]

If there was a way to log on this device I would be doing it everyday. Just to keep up with everything that's happened so far. My droid was very useful for those type of things.

[ an excited look as he reads that he's staying at house seven - ]

We're neighbours! Isn't that exciting. I'm at House six. Do not hesitate to call on me. I'll be up to no good otherwise if I'm left alone to do whatever I want.

[ giorno's jumpsuit, on the other hand, is a dark blue. ]

Ahaha, you had a personal assistant? That's cute!
gotyourselfapilot: (pic#12002349)

[personal profile] gotyourselfapilot 2018-01-21 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
It'll make things easier for setting up plans. You should tell me who is all staying in your house. I'll do the same, even try to figure out everyone's talents. I can be pretty impulsive too.

[ It wasn't a lie, he would be bad at it anyway. Poe can understand the getting up to no go or doing whatever. ]

Sort of. More sidekick than anything else.
tropism: (pic#10540662)

[personal profile] tropism 2018-01-21 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's not a problem at all. I'll make note of those we can use. I'm quite persistent, if nothing else. If nothing else, I'll pass it off as the arrogance of my youth.

[ ah. in any case, he's more interested about poe's world, so once they've established that they are to do this, he asks more about his sidekick, his life: ]

Can you tell me more? I've never been to space!
gotyourselfapilot: (pic#10134747)

[personal profile] gotyourselfapilot 2018-01-21 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
I happen to be genuinely curious. Plus I try to help people, I might be able to learn everyone that way. Being persistent is good but there will be people out there that might not like it so much. It's just who you are and they can learn to live with it though.

[ Poe doesn't mind talking about his world. He doesn't mind talking about his life in general. ]

BB-8 is an astromech, but a bb unit. They are round, but he has all of the upgrades I could possibly find for him. The astromech models tend to help pilots navigate through things since they can pick up terrain of anything. Including caves. They'll be able to bring up a map on a screen. I can understand his language and don't need it when he talks to me. Put I do ask him for maps a lot plus he records everything I tell him when we log things.

[ BB-8 would know a lot of things if anyone where to get his chip. Poe's said a lot of things about a lot of events. It could be useful to someone. ]

Weird. Like a phone? A walking .... rolling smartphone? That's useful, though! I doubt we'd be able to replicate that kind of technology here, which is sad, but who knows? If we find a mechanic who can make do with what they have here in Reims, maybe it won't be such a bad idea. We'll just have to rely on trads for now.

But all of those modifications on one unit. You must be very busy, before you arrived here.
gotyourselfapilot: (pic#10186938)

[personal profile] gotyourselfapilot 2018-01-21 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
A little more advanced than what our devices are. He's very useful and a lot of the time gets underestimated by others. BB-8 can still do things on his own without having commands. Since I'm a pilot, I need to know everything about my ship and can be a mechanic or technician. I put in all of my droid's upgrades. I'm not sure if I'll be able to under the technology here but I'm willing to learn.

Very busy and in a midst of a fight that's leaning into a war. I will be looking for ways to leave from here or try to find answers at least.

[crawls] work ate me im sorry

[personal profile] tropism 2018-01-29 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure the technology won't be too difficult for you!

Tell me more about this war. Strange to think that people have made it as far as the galaxy and we've found other reasons to fight against each other.
gotyourselfapilot: (pic#10126586)

work can do that

[personal profile] gotyourselfapilot 2018-01-29 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It'll be a lot of trial and error though. If it's nothing like the technology I'm used to. I might be making too many errors and be loud.

There's been many. I grew up in a of peace but there was a growing threat. One organization didn't want to do anything about them because of orders. The other was a group of people that believed fighting and knowing the threat would help the galaxy.
