What's Happening? Finding things on the porch, delivering a gift to Steve and a network post - OTA
When: March 5th - ?
Content Warnings: None so far.
I. [Spam - Open to Housemates/People Who Might Be Visiting]
[There's a huge box on the porch when she arrives home from her quiet maintenance duties and for a moment, she just stares at it. She approaches it with caution, poking it lightly with her left shoe. When nothing happens, she moves to kneel down beside it, carefully pulling the lid off and staring at the contents inside for a full moment, shock running through her.
Because right at the top lay her skateboard from home. Broken, but held together with gray tape. She wonders if she's hallucinating, but she reaches out and picks it up and when it doesn't crumble to dust, she hugs it to her chest. Tears prick her eyelids and she rolls her eyes at herself for getting so emotional over something so simple, but it's her board. And it's here, even if she can't actually use it.
After a long few moments, she carefully moves into the house, setting her board down on the couch and then hauling in the box to see what else is there.]
II. [Spam - Open to Steve Harrington]
[The moment she finds the bat, studded with nails, she knows exactly what to do with it. Who it belongs to. She has no clue why things are showing up here that are from home, but it's something she's relieved to see. She's seen Steve in action with it once before. There's not exactly a door to the family room, but she lingers in the door frame when she sees him sitting by the fireplace.
She lifts her hand in a wave to try and catch his attention, hiding the bat behind her back for the moment.]
[UN: MadMax]
So weird question but did anyone else get a big box of random stuff on their porch today?
[Private Network to Kara]
So...hi. Are you okay?

So...hi. Are you okay?

You're good with people.
[She sits down carefully and grimaces a little as she looks at the worms and dirt, reaching in and grabbing one before spearing it on the hook and tossing her line in the water.]

[ Majima baited his hook and cast his line; the bobber hit the surface of the water and then settled in a float. ]
Used to think fishing was an old man hobby. But it's actually pretty relaxin'.
Oh yeah, so what kinda loot did ya end up with?
no subject
I think it's the water. Water's soothing.
A bunch of stuff. Clothes, an atari, my skateboard, hot chocolate, my friend's baseball bat, an ice cream machine.
Do you think it's really the natives leaving this stuff?
no subject
But some of the stuff, it don't make any sense to be from here -- like your friend's bat. Maybe they all show up in the Reset Room, and the locals find it.
[ The light reflecting off the surface of the water was warm and bright; when the quiet was of this timbre, it was almost like he was back home, fishing in the Sotenbori.
He paused. ]
Your skateboard... you're sure it's yours, right? No mistake?
no subject
Yeah I guess it could be showing up there like we did. But how do they know who to give it to?
[Max nods slightly even as she stares at the water.]
It's definitely mine.
[There's no doubt in her mind.]

[ Fat raindrops began to fall from the sky, despite the sun -- a cloudburst. Majima didn't seem to mind, probably because he'd sat through plenty of them when fishing was his job here. ]
no subject
I don't think so?
no subject
[ He had a feeling the answer to this question was only going to make him more uneasy. There was a tug on his line; he gave it a tug with his wrist and began to reel the line in. The pole bowed slightly under the pressure, but the reel mechanism itself was strangely soundless. ]
no subject
The only place I've talked about it is my house.
[And even that's been minimal. She watches him reel in his line.]
no subject
[ The line slackened suddenly. He shook his head as he reeled in the line to reveal a hook robbed of its bait. ]
Looks like I got a hit and run.
[ Before he rebaited his hook, he reached behind him to slip a small object out from under his suit jacket: a sheathed dagger, its hilt lacquered black and covered with delicate blooming flowers. ]
Never told anyone about this, either.
no subject
[She shrugs a little when he baits the line again. Typical day of fishing. But when he pulls the dagger out, she stares at it for a moment with wide eyes before looking up at him. It's pretty, considering.]
And it was on your porch?
no subject
In the house, with everything else.
[ Rebaiting the hook was a simple matter, and it wasn't long before he was waiting for another nibble. ]
Tried askin' one of 'em about it, but she was signing so fast I couldn't get much out of it.
no subject
[Her expression twists into a grimace and she pushed her wet hair behind her, watching the droplets hit the water and ripple.]
no subject
[ It was also, frankly, strange the way they'd given Majima all this stuff. Was it for something? It certainly didn't seem like they were going to get answers any time soon. ]
You got enough ingredients for ice cream?
no subject
No milk. Haven't found sugar yet either. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll show up on on the doorstep next.
no subject
Yeah. Sugar keeps for a while, but probably not that long.
[ Another bite this time -- the fish were antsier due to the rain, no doubt. This time Majima put some concentration into it, patiently waiting it out as the pole bowed under the strength of the struggling fish.
Here, fishy fishy.... ]
no subject
The rain's drawing them.
[She crosses her fingers that this one holds on long enough for him to reel it in.]
no subject
Slowly, though, Majima reeled it in until it was close enough to grab: a salmon. He unhooked it and retrieved two items from their supplies: a pan and a thin knife. ]
I'm gonna need some river water. You wanna come watch?
no subject
Yeah, definitely.
[She wants to learn how to do this herself because nothing in this place, or any other, is guaranteed.]
no subject
Better to end it as soon as possible. Changes the way the fish tastes, too, if ya leave it suffering like that.
[ That done, he headed to the river, where he partially filled the pan with water. Moving quickly now, he made a quick incision under the gills and just above the tail. ]
This is for getting the blood out. You just leave it, and the taste'll leech into the rest of the fish. It's best to use the same water ya caught it in, too. Don't wanna dump a saltwater fish in freshwater, and vice versa.
no subject
And then once the blood is drained, you cook it?
no subject
[ He placed the fish head side down, allowing the animal's own circulatory system to continue pumping the blood out of its body and into the water. ]
Be faster with some ice, but we don't have that. You wanna keep this one?
no subject
No, you caught it. You should keep it.
no subject
Let's see if we can't pick up a couple more. I'm feelin' lucky.
