What's Happening? Finding things on the porch, delivering a gift to Steve and a network post - OTA
When: March 5th - ?
Content Warnings: None so far.
I. [Spam - Open to Housemates/People Who Might Be Visiting]
[There's a huge box on the porch when she arrives home from her quiet maintenance duties and for a moment, she just stares at it. She approaches it with caution, poking it lightly with her left shoe. When nothing happens, she moves to kneel down beside it, carefully pulling the lid off and staring at the contents inside for a full moment, shock running through her.
Because right at the top lay her skateboard from home. Broken, but held together with gray tape. She wonders if she's hallucinating, but she reaches out and picks it up and when it doesn't crumble to dust, she hugs it to her chest. Tears prick her eyelids and she rolls her eyes at herself for getting so emotional over something so simple, but it's her board. And it's here, even if she can't actually use it.
After a long few moments, she carefully moves into the house, setting her board down on the couch and then hauling in the box to see what else is there.]
II. [Spam - Open to Steve Harrington]
[The moment she finds the bat, studded with nails, she knows exactly what to do with it. Who it belongs to. She has no clue why things are showing up here that are from home, but it's something she's relieved to see. She's seen Steve in action with it once before. There's not exactly a door to the family room, but she lingers in the door frame when she sees him sitting by the fireplace.
She lifts her hand in a wave to try and catch his attention, hiding the bat behind her back for the moment.]
[UN: MadMax]
So weird question but did anyone else get a big box of random stuff on their porch today?
[Private Network to Kara]
So...hi. Are you okay?

How'd they get a hold of them, though? I didn't have these things with me when I got here.
Yeah. Have you - not seen one?
[Because in this place, it's possible.]
no subject
I'm not completely sure. A friend of mine found my jacket randomly by the fountain last month. This time a box showed up on the porch of House Seven. I didn't as well.
No, I haven't. I mostly flew all kinds of ships or things that can fly like Speeders for joy rides.
no subject
You fly ships? Like - planes? Spaceships?
no subject
Spaceships.
no subject
It is, yeah. [She fell off it a lot at first, but she'd gotten really good at it in the last couple of years.]
Whoa, really? You work for like, NASA?
no subject
How long have you been using it? [ It's good that she never gave up. It means she has a lot of spirit. She would probably be good at teaching things too. ]
No. I'm in a organization known as the Resistance. My mother, she taught me how to fly back where I'm from. I'm from a place with many systems. A galaxy. Not from Earth. What's NASA exactly?
no subject
A couple of years now. How long have you been flying?
[It's easy to forget not everyone here is from earth. But now she's kind of fascinated.]
It's The National Aeronautics and Space Administration. They handle all the space ships and space exploration where I'm from. What do you resist?
no subject
For about twenty-six years.
[ He learned when he was six from what his first memory of that recalls. ]
Space travel is the most used. You can get to system to system as long as you have enough fuel to do so. We're trying to resist another war from happening from this other organization known as the First Order. We're trying to keep hope from fading away. [ He's pretty sure it's inevitable at this point. It's what he'll be going back home to. ]
no subject
[That's...not the answer she's anticipating. Wow.]
It's not super common back home for me. It's super expensive and dangerous.
That's - a pretty good thing to resist.
[Again, not what she'd been expecting in the least. She's no fan of war in general though, so she's 100% behind you here.]
Is it working?
no subject
[ He's trying to be helpful really. He understands about wanting to do something but not being able to do it. ]
What's common travel for you?
Yeah, there was peace for a while.
[ Poe grew up in that peace, it was mostly quiet then too. There was a bit of a hardship and he and his father lived with it in the way they could together. Poe didn't want his father's fear to become true. But, he knew that it would anyway. He couldn't give up on hope though. He wouldn't. ]
No, it's not. But I'm not going to give up.
no subject
[She's still glad her board is here, even if she might be unable to use it.]
For me it's my board. My friends ride bicycles. But people over 16 can drive cars, which also have wheels but go a lot faster than skateboards or bikes.
[She reads between the lines even before he adds the last part. The peace isn't current. That sucks.]
Good. You shouldn't ever give up. Especially not on the big things.
[Somebody has to fight for them.]
no subject
It almost seems boring. But I bet seeing the scenery is nice in all of those forms though. It's better to appreciate the things you do have.
I plan to keep on doing the right thing. I mostly don't want to see all hope gone. Doesn't matter where I am. Even here I'll keep trying to help those that need it. We all need it.
[ He didn't see the point to not try here too. Even if he needs to get back home. Everyone here wants to as well but they can't give up on living here to survive. ]
no subject
Thanks. I'll think about it.
I mean I'm sure it's boring compared to travel by spaceship, yeah. [Plus having to wait until you were 16 to drive is arbitrary and stupid. She's pretty sure she could drive just fine if she had the chance.]
That's nice of you.
[Not really what she's used to from the adults she's around back home. They mostly just do their own thing without paying much attention to anything else.]
no subject
When you say wheels, what are they made out of exactly? Plastic or metal?
I don't know. How fast can you go on your board? Can you do tricks on it? [ Boring? It could be depending on how it's perceived. He'll try finding the fun out of it, seeing the limits of something like that. ]
I haven't really heard that one before.
[ He can't help but ask. Poe then provides another answer. ] I sort of can't help but want to help people.
[ Yeah, he can't help the hero part. It's a weakness that he knows a lot about. ]
no subject
They don't go that fast, really, but I can do tricks, yeah. [Doing them here would be even nosier than just riding it though.]
That doesn't surprise me. [People opposed to war didn't tend to want to hurt people.]
no subject
How fast do you think it can go? Have you done anything dangerous when you do tricks?
I guess it wouldn't. What would surprise you though?
no subject
Well, if the circumstances are just right they can go pretty fast, like 70 or 80 miles an hour. But I don't generally go anywhere near that fast. Not the right kind of terrain. You need hills for that. Or a skate park. Um, yeah, I've tried some dangerous tricks before.
I mean, finding out other dimensions and monsters exist surprised me?
no subject
Have you tried exploring around to see if there are big hills anywhere? It doesn't sound impressive but I'm sure it's scary and thrilling to go that fast. A skate park? What does that include? I bet you felt foolish in the beginning but it's passion that drives you. They get mixed up sometimes.
Other dimensions? What do you mean exactly by that? What kind of monsters?
no subject
I've been over most of the town but there aren't a lot of big hills around. A skate park is - there are ramps and things where you can practice tricks and jumps. Usually all concrete so the surface is really smooth.
Like how none of us are from this place? Just other worlds, basically.
Oh. Like the Sound Eaters.
no subject
The terrain seemed flat but I wanted to make sure there weren't any secret hills. Perhaps something like that could get built. Not sure where though, since the only time you would be able to use it is during the rain. I'm sure that's dangerous.
Do you think this is a dimension then and not the planet bringing us here?
Oh, do monsters exist where you're from?
no subject
If there are secret hills, I haven't seen them yet. It's still possible. But yeah, probably too dangerous, both because of the rain and the sound eaters.
I guess I kind of...was looking at it like the same thing. Science isn't my thing, though.
Mostly just the human kind.
no subject
Rain would deter the sound eaters though from the sounds you would make with the skateboard. Danger can be good sometimes if it's worth the risk.
I'm a pilot. I don't really know all of this stuff.
My name is Poe. Poe Dameron.
Hopefully you'll continue to have the human kind from your world.
no subject
Yeah, it can be. [She supposes if nothing else she could skate in the driveway when it's raining...]
I'm Max Mayfield. I'll see you in a few minutes.
