MOD LOG #2

MOD LOG #2
Now we're back to the beginning
Content Warnings: Death, apocalypse, a shit storm generally, pigeon death
Themes: Survival, plot
As noted on the ooc plotting post, this prompt is in the form of a Network Post via the native who runs the Bulletin Board. The post can be found here. Out of the five separate teams, all groups decided to share the footage they found. On the morning of the first, the footage will go live as a compilation in order of oldest to newest. Character's devices will update at the same time. The weather is overcast and sullen, befitting the news, and characters can talk to each other on the network post or play out their reactions on the log here.
Will you stay or will you go
Content Warnings: NONE
Themes: Survival, plot
On the morning of the second, the locals will call a meeting at town hall. All soundproofing and partnering rules apply - find a person and help soundproof the area. This is so that everyone can speak during the meeting. The found footage has unsettled the natives and after the community takes a seat, Constance will share some interesting backstory. As one of the oldest members of the community, Constance wasn't alive when the Sound Eaters first came but she heard stories from her great grandmother. The 'tales' have taken twists and turns over time, leaving the survivors with a watered down version of events that amounts to - they came and everyone had to be quiet.
An elderly native will come forward and admit that they arrived through the Reset Room when they were a teenager and have been living there ever since. They tried to get home and they could never find away. Most interestingly, to those that listen closely to his story, is that he came with a sibling who was killed by a Sound Eater and wasn't Reset. Yet, he's known people to come through the Reset Room, die, and come back. Piping up from the background, another local mentions that those born in the world they're in now (natives) aren't reset when they die. It's not something they have any real understanding of. Arrivals tend to disappear at random times, stay in the community, or leave; those that choose to depart and explore the world never make it very far. Whether this is from Sound Eaters alone or someone or something else, the natives don't know. It's obvious they are frightened and don't go beyond what they know is safe.
The natives will now ask the characters if they will stay as permanent members of the community. If they choose to, they will be given the option to take on an apartment that is completely soundproofed, furnished, and will be accepted completely by the natives. This can open up doors for characters to become important parts of the community. No character has to agree to become permanent members. If a character chooses not to, the arrangement they're in will stay the same until a few months from now when the natives ask again. Arrivals are given the chance to talk to one another so that they can decide and digest the new information. There is also a comment below to ask the natives questions 'in front of' the entire community.
ooc: Players have until apps close this upcoming round to comment to the housing page saying that their character chose to be permanent members and are taking an apartment. The apartment is located closer to the Reset Room and are either one or two bedrooms; please note which one your character is taking.
Therefore I lie with her

The native Constance, who hands out the devices, has decided to step back from a leadership role and has submitted the names of those that she believes could lead the group better than she has. Please vote responsibly. During dinner, a group meal prepared and served in the town hall, slips of paper will be passed around with a pencil for everyone to vote. They will be anonymous unless the person chooses to share out loud who they voted for. There won't be much time for campaigning, but candidates are allowed to do so if they'd like - either handwaved or through their own posts/top-levels.
THE CANDIDATES:
- Frank Castle
- Erik Lehnsherr
- Teddy Upsilon
- Richie Tozier
- Akira Kurusu
- Merlan O'Keefe

Kara | Supergirl
[Kara's not expecting to stumble, quite literally, across a box on her doorstep. it's a small box, and she brings it inside before untying the twine wrapped around it. inside is a note: find the others. watch me. come to where you first arrived.
the latter is easy enough to figure out, but who's the others? The whole community? the natives, or arrivals like her? still, she's got nothing else better to do yet, so she starts making her way to the reset room, cape flowing behind her, note in hand.
when she arrives, there's three other faces in the reset room - all of them confused but not in that way that Kara is beginning to associate with death. with them is a laptop - an actual laptop - set on one of the work station tables Jan and Rosa had installed.
It's open to a video, paused at the beginning and ridiculously short. Kara pulls out her device.]
Have any of you watched it yet?
Will You Stay or Will You Go? (open)
[Kara listens quietly, leaned back against a wall of the Town Hall, her arms crossed in front of her and the heel of one red boot resting on the toe of the other. There's a wrinkle in her brow as she processes what she's hearing, especially after all the footage has become known. It's a lot to take in - what all happened. So much of it doesn't make sense: where did the Sound Eaters come from? Why do some people not get reset - not even just natives. Some of them could possibly not come back!
She steadfastly refuses to think about what that implies for if she's forced to kill again.
Instead, she touches the arm of the first person she runs into as the talk wraps up with Constance, and the buzz of annoyed and worried people reaches a fevered pitch.]
Hey, are you okay after all of that?
Can We Build It? (closed to lucky team 13/Qetzi)
[Kara's surprised at the message she receives, from a native she doesn't recognize the name of, asking for her help. she'll give it, willingly, but it's still surprising. Verdrel Square... that's where she met Lorem! It's a beautiful place, and just thinking about it makes Kara a little bit happier.
The request, though, is to build a fence around it, with a gate synced to their device, some kind of monitoring system. That's... weird. Why would they need that? Still, they've been here longer than she has, and survived longer than she has, so with a shrug, Kara searches out her work partner on the network to message them.
un: kdanvers Hi there! Did you just get a message about some fence project too?
Happy Little Trees (open!! precursor to the silent movie nights - post tbd. set 3/1-3/5)
[everyone is processing all the news, and things are... well, they're always quiet. But things are still, eerily so. Kara has nothing to do, sitting in a bigger-than-needed house all day with nothing but her thoughts and a television hooked up to a rigged solar panel that she's pretty sure Tony Stark would laugh at. A lot. She's kind of been avoiding showing it to him.
It's during this stillness that there's a brush at the door, an attempt to push it open, but Kara has a chair pushed against the handle. she x-rays through the wood to see one of the natives, one of the demonstrators next to Constance when they had first arrived. she's holding... a huge basket, with the sleeves of her jumpsuit rolled up, and Kara hops up to open the door. behind the woman, a few more natives spill in, all carrying supplies that Kara doesn't... have any idea what the use of them is for.
With some explanation, she discovers they're here to help her soundproof. One slips her a text saying it's a thank you, and Kara has no idea for what. She's failed her job so many times now.
It's not just soundproofing, though! They've brought... a ton of supplies. There's paint, in bright and sunny colors, and some stuff from home - oh gosh, her blankets. Each day, the natives bring something new with them as they help her soundproof her entire house, holy toledo. At one point, they carry in baskets of flavored popcorn, and Kara can feel her mouth watering. On another day, they carry in couches, and then on the last day, beds, that Kara quickly grabs from them, oh geez. They shouldn't be lifting that much!
As they work, Kara gets to work painting. After they finish soundproofing a room, Kara paints it. Because everyone is so in-and-out right now, her door is open, for anyone to walk by and inspect a yellow-paint-covered Kara, hair pulled back in a messy, curly ponytail, painting her walls an dancing silently to a song stuck in her head. Hit me, baby, one more time!]

back to the beginning
It had a video on it. Something someone wanted them to see. He's dying of curiosity but holds off on watching it just yet, not wanting to be the only one to see what happens.
For all he knows the video will play once and never again. If that's the case then Sora doesn't want to have ruined anyone else's chances at viewing it. So he heads to the arrival room, laptop in hand and sets it up.
A shake of his head at the question.]
I wasn't sure if it'd get deleted after watching it once so I wanted to wait and make sure everyone was here.
no subject
We're here now. Should we go ahead and watch it?
no subject
Just in case. Then nods and reaches over to start the video with a free hand.
As the recording starts up, he watches silently. It's short and not very informative.]

Have the most contented sigh ever, Kara. Home sweet home.]

[ that's a very good question. one she doesn't have the answer to and not for a while. she almost has the urge to simply not answer it but she recalls her last meeting with kara.
least she can do is try. ]
I'm- I'm happy that the community, in light of these revelations, is willing to band together and try to help each other no matter the circumstances.
[ a perfectly polite yet bland statement to make. gives her time to stew on the situation a little bit longer. ]
... What about you? Are you okay?
no subject
[after a moment, she remembers Lorem had asked about how she's doing as well, and she waves a hand, a vague gesture. after everything that's happened, this is just sprinkles on the worst-tasting sundae in the world. is she okay? probably not. but that doesn't look heroic.]

What he doesn't expect when he makes it to Kara's house is her to be dancing covered in paint. Her back is to Mike stood in the doorway and maybe she's already sensed he's there but doesn't care that he's caught her. Either way, Mike is holding back a giggle as he watches her, trying to work out what song she's dancing to in her head. ]
THE OTHER PURE BOY :3
he's clearly seen her dancing if the smug, amused grin on his face is any indication. Kara blows some hair out of her face and waves with her paint roller, disappearing into the entrance way of her entertainment room to grab her device. she comes out seconds later, typing a message.]
Hey, Mike! What's so funny? :P

Happy Little Trees
[ Majima would ordinarily turn on his heel and walk right back where he came from, only this time one of the locals had saddled him with a basket of (... popcorn?) and motioned to the house.
What, were they too busy for deliveries? For reasons that he couldn't even explain, he simply accepted the task -- which was how he found himself at Kara's door. Wow, that was... bright. Paint. ]
no subject
Oh, there's someone new here. Kara grins at Majima. She hasn't seen much of him since he arrived here. She hopes he's been finding everything all right. Also that he hasn't died. If she finds out after the fact that one more person dies... ugh.
She comes up to him, taking the basket of caramel popcorn from him. Caramel! Oh, that's exciting. She darts into a doorway to put it in her entertainment room, next to the basket of butter popcorn, then comes back out with a wave.]

Kara inhales jerkily, tense all over, as she pivots on her heel, her shoulders drawn back as she stands straight and tall in front of him, looking through him more than looking at him.]

[ To be honest, she's not really all that interested in the video. It doesn't look like a feature film? Which means it's probably...boring. Or propaganda ala any war ever. So she's only really here because she was following directions. ]
no subject
I think we should. If it's nothing, then it's just a waste of [she glances at the time stamp on the video.] 52 seconds.

nah. same principle as horror movies right? better to watch it in a group, not alone

He waits a while before actually walking over toward the house. He's not quite sure who it belongs to but he ends up stepping inside looking around quietly. It seemed rude but he wanted to make sure whoever was inside was safe. Poe would take the hit for sneaking up on anyone though. His boots needed to be tested out and they seemed to be noiseless.
Yellow walls could be seen ahead. Poe raises an eyebrow at the color, it wasn't bad but not his first choice. He comes closer to Kara hoping that she would see him and he would give her a polite wave while signing. ] Your door was open.
